Steam is having an anniversary sale, with a lot of good deals. For example, X-Com Terror From The Deep is now $2.95, Civ 4 Complete, $64.95, and the perennial favorite, the always-playable and delightful, the one, the only Pirates! for $20.

Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines is $10 but I'm leery knowing that the unofficial patches are the saving grace for that game. I've wanted to try this game but (since I enjoyed the original) but the unofficial patches don't work for the steam copy, do they?

I don't have a definitive answer but would guess not given my experiences thus far with Beyond the Sword purchased through Steam.

It made me sad looking at all the Railroads games and realizing the only one I really enjoyed, despite buying them all, was RRT2.

Bought V-TM:B last night
now I read this...

here's hoping it works, as in...How can someone sell a game online that is clearly broken in it's release state and not having some kind of support/update policy for it? Meh...

Through unholy channels I played it when it first came out, patched the von weinteisner bug and finished it as a Ventrue, then started it again as a Malkavian, but couldn't finish it for whatever reason, PC died or something, but the malkavian experience was so much more enjoyable than the other, can't wait to give it another...cough *legit* cough ...try

Thank you sir, I prefer my frustration with two sugar cubes if you please

I hope you can patch it, I remember doing it before, it was a bit complex to do but it worked, better retrace that sneaky unofficial patch and bookmark the how-to's

Yes, the unofficial patches work with both Steam and Direct2Drive versions.

i've got Bloodlines, bought it in '05, never finished it, still sitting on my HD. It's a pretty good game though.

I'm a little disappointed in Steam cause I can get the Orange Box from Frys for 37 bucks meanwhile it's 49 on Steam. Obviously theres probably publisher chicanery going on that is causing this, but I'd much rather just get the game right off steam, but theres no hope of that when I can save over 10 bucks getting at Frys.

Bloodlines has been the game that has fulfill my RPG needs. I was looking for a good rpg similar to the p&p experience and althought it is still not the same, the story, feeling, rules and pace is great. Two years ago I left it because my computer was not good enough to enjoy it, now it is perfect.

Finished it as a Nosferatu and now playing as a Gangrel. I will play a third time surely. With good modding tools as in Redemption this game would be awesome to play in multiplayer/storyteller.

I'm about to buy the vampires game. How does Xcom play these days? I never played the original.

Any other recommendations?

One of my friends at work had the same dilemma: he wanted to not have to worry about a CD, but saving 12 bucks factored in hugely for him. I told him he might be able to still do everything with the game through Steam, just by clicking the "Activate a product you already own" button. He did that, entered the CD key from his store-bought copy, and Steam downloaded all of the Orange Box no problems.

Even if you buy and install from the DVD, you never need the DVD in the drive while you play.

I picked up the Civ bundle. A good price to begin with and the high Canadian dollar makes it a little better as getting all 3 games would cost around 90 dollars at somewhere like Future Shop. The ~7 gig download sure is a big chunk out of my monthly 30 gig limit though.

Yeah, it's pretty crappy. Luckily Telus isn't big on enforcing the limit unless you go way over.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I haven't had a chance to sign into Steam for a while. Glad I didn't miss picking up Pirates! for 20$.
