What about the whole idea of seperation of church and state?

Could someone please let me know the last time a religious group controlling a government resulted in a positive outcome for its people?

This just seems like a blindingly bad idea. (Mostly because I think they'll have a massive amount of support if it comes to fruition)

It depends on what constitutes a "positive outcome". I suspect that differs depending on one's religious views.

Myself, I don't see the difference between trying to institute a Christian governing group for the USA and having an Islamic one for Iran. I wouldn't want to live under either of them.

This might be short sighted of me, but I really hope this does happen. They won't be viable enough to get a president elected but they might have a couple congressmen. It could start the fracturing of the two major parties into many parties, where we vote for the best candidate, not the party who has ticked us off the least this year.

Plus, with the Christians not backing the Republicans anymore, the Republicans can be all about the money again. Using their evil minds to protect my money and to get me more money.

It's fun to dream.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a truely viable 3rd party, but religion has no place in government. This country was founded by some very smart people who knew that to be true, and to allow a religious party to have any direct influence in the government* would be a slippery slope that I really don't see ending well.

This party might cost the Republicans (for whom I typically vote) some voters, but imho they can have those people.

No, you seriously don't want a church influenced government. We have one in Mexico, and look how great we're doing.

You know, some corporate leader should really run too. If religion can make an overt play for the Oval Office, why not Corporate America? The government is already doing a good job of letting itself be run by corporate interests, may as well cut out the middlemen, no?

Can't wait for the USA IPO, I'd be selling it short.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, or if you just don't remember people like Ross Perot and Steve Forbes running. Or our current VP, for that matter.

Ramen.

The sooner we kick out the kooky "values voters" and get back to results based governance, the better off the party and the country will be. The GOP needs a Big Tent Exorcism.

Ditto. Most likely the only way we will FINALLYget a third party is by the extremists of either party to jump ship thus creating a more moderate party by default. Although I'm not sure that it would be long lived. Once a zealot becomes isolated and realizes how little power they have on their own, they will try to infiltrate a larger group and attempt to steer it.

A few days ago I heard him on the radio speaking about the fires here. He mentioned the importance of the health of the elderly in the "nursery homes." I found it quite endearing.
