Am I ok with this?
So I got keylogged....From what I understand there was a virus on my system that can root out my password. Then, someone logged in, stripped me of everything, used one of my characters to farm even more loot and left me with nothing except 44 copper. This is what I received from Blizzard today:

So I got punished and suspended for 72 hours because someone hacked me? I guess they have to so if I had done and were lying, that would make me think twice about it. Is there any other position I should take? They have NOT indicated if I will receive my items and gold back either.
I'm a little frustrated to say the least.

I have found things to always work if you apply honey instead of vinegar. I would be livid, and vocalizing to myself and my friends. To Bliz, show a smile and do what they ask you to. It will go a long way towards showing them that you are telling the truth.

Thanks Khush for your comment. I'm pretty sure that the GM personally appreciated how polite I was last night when chatiing with him. Honey and Venegar....Yup - Goes a long way

Wow. That's kind of horsesh*t, IMO.
On the one hand, they can't prove you purposefully sold items/gold. On the either, you can't prove you didn't.
Wait to see if they restore your items. If they do; no problems and continue the adventure! If not... take a look and decide if starting toons mostly tabula rasa appeals to you. You wouldn't have to re-level but you'd need to get new items and I'm sure the guild would help with that.

That probably has nothing to do with the GM you spoke to. The email and stuff is probably an automated system or other group that scans for activity, like farming Dire Maul all day and then dumping all your gold and gear. I would call Blizzard and try to get it straightened out.
That really really sucks Cal. I don't have an sage words for you except to say that I hope this doesn't make you decide to quit the game. You are ALWAYS fun to play with.
Goodluck Cal, I hope to see you back and active sooner rather than later!

I would like to echo the comments above.
I can see it from both sides and realize that it's almost a no win situation. Even if things turn out well in the end, you've already endured some stress and unexpected downtime.
Most importantly, though, is know that you have friends out here who will be ready and willing to help you get back with full recovery if it comes to that. After all, the most attractive aspect to WoW is the friends you make and the experiences you have with them.

Seriously though, that's a completely canned response from Blizzard. Your probably one of thousands that this has happened to and Blizz just shuts the account down rather than take any chances. It's also pretty clear that whoever hacked your account sent gold or items to an account that had been previously suspect.
I'm sure if you call them and explain what happened they'll make it right. It may take a while and you may not get everything back but they should fix it.
In any case, make damn sure you get your computer totally clean before you play more - I know a guy whose account was hacked TWICE. Wowinsider had a good article about protecting yourself a while back; I've since installed free anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and scan daily.
Good luck, bro.

Thanks for all the positive feedback gang. I'm waiting out my suspension, ran a good scan, eliminated ALL UI mods and will be back in a couple of days. Plus, let's be honest, I've only really played lately with my son. It's just I couldn't believe it happened to me.
I'll see you all soon, hit 70 and be raiding Kara in a month or two.

Protip: in the future, use a good antivirus with a realtime filesystem scanner. You never know when you accidentally run spyware or a virus-infected file or some sort of a file extension exploit.
Prevention is the only real defense. Once a virus is executed, the degree to which it becomes undetectable is only dependent on how well it is written... and they're getting better.
An update: Blizzard got all my items returned and I received all the gold that the farmer mailed to another address...I actually came out ahead. Had I had my choice, I wouldn't have gone through it. However, a nice little bump for my characters.

Props to Blizzard. They actually seem to care.
Wow, I'm kind of surprised, even though it's obviously the right business decision as well as the right thing to do.
Big grats, Cal!!!

I'm not sure what I expected, but a rational response is unexpected. Great news Cal!
