Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

So the demo is up on the Playstation Network. Played through it and good lord, this may be the most impressive looking game ever made. It keeps the same artistic style, which is fairly simple in nature, but oh man the environments are gorgeous! Playing felt very much like the first and second games which gives me great hope that the game has returned to its roots. My only complaint is that the camera is a little tough at times and there's no invert option... hopefully that'll be in the final game.
This can't come out soon enough! We are likely looking at my game of the year.

I had some reservations before playing the demo. Mainly based on the fact that I bought one Ratchet game for PS2 and it just never really grabbed me. But the demo was pretty awesome and yeah it looks fantastic.

Which one did you get for the PS2? Going Commando (2nd game) was the best of the bunch and one of my favorite games from last generation. The first game was next best; it was good but you didn't realize how much better it could be until Going Commando rolled around. Up Your Arsenal (3rd game) is next although it wasn't even nearly as good as the first two. We won't mention the last game as that really didn't count as part of the series far as I'm concerned.
I don't think this new R&C game will do anything to bring people over that didn't care for the series in the first place, but for fans it looks to be everything we've wanted and more. A potentially interesting story is there, awesome graphics, smooth gameplay, fun weapons... that's the makings of a solid R&C game.

I know what you mean, I had the same experience with one of the R&C sequels. But from the onset, this one appeared a bit different, bringing back the platforming elements that had grown less prominent in the franchise. I can't wait to download the demo.

I just went and looked it's Up Your Arsenal. Yeah I played through the demo again after reading a hint on another forum about the L2 key, and it was even better.

Arg. This game is going to make me buy a Ps3. I'm incapable of resisting the game's sweet, sweet, siren song.

Thadryn: lvl 70 draenei mage - Blackhand
That's my fear too. I haven't really had an interest in a PS3 because the vast majority of the titles I want are coming out on the 360, but Ratchet and Clank might be what tips the applecart. I need to be strong

INSTANT PURCHASE.
It feels like you are playing a Pixar movie - It's easily up there and even surpasses the current heavyweights in terms of visual quality. Not a spot of aliasing to be seen, and completely fluid. The amount of objects and destruction on screen are very impressive.
The controls are tight and you can turn on a dime - the way a platformer should feel. The weapons (and most importantly the Disco ball - pure awesomeness) are great.
I know the reviewers will find a way to tear this down in some way (my guess: they will try to play a 'short length' trump card) but by all means this is shaping up to be the PS3's first real (yes, real) killer app.

Agreed. So far, this is the only game on the PS3 that I'm really tempted by. However, I'm not in a rush, since there are plenty of other games too keep me busy until the PS3 hits $199 (in 3 or 4 years, hopefully). But, I've always absolutely loved the Ratchet & Clank games, so this is going to be a toughy.

I started the download last night, but it didn't finish before I went to bed. From all the praise here, though, I'm quite excited to check it out, even though it's been quite a long time since a non-Mario platformer has really grabbed my attention (over the past few years I've tried out two of the Jak games and two of the Sly Cooper games, and both sort of lost me after an hour or two). It's actually quite strange, since I loved the genre so much as a kid and a teenager, but I think I may have played one too many Donkey Kong 64/Banjo Kazooie style collectathons and got frustrated with that kind of premise. Anyway, here's hoping the that this game might be able to re-ignite that old flame.

I'm pretty pleased with this, as long as the full version fixes the camera controls.

Apparently on the Insomniac podcast they said the camera controls and lock-strafing are fixed up in the final game.
As for game length, I'm not even worried if it's a little on the short side. Insomniac is great with replay and typically reward you for going through a game multiple times. In the past couple iterations of R&C the weapons can typically be upgraded even further upon playing through again and sometimes there are even more weapons to be found.

Also I have to say the part where you maneuver Ratchet through the flying cars a-la episode 3 is the best use of the sixaxis to date.

That demo was awesome. I've always been a Ratchet & Clank nut (beaten the whole series) and this is one PS3 game I'll definitely be buying on day one.

Some very positive reviews are out there. I'm assuming everyone with a PS3 will be picking this up eh?
Edit: Search results failed me so I resurrected this thread before sing the catch-all, bah!

I have my copy in my hands. Probably won't get to spend much (if any) time with it tonight but hopefully tomorrow night I'll be spending some quality time with the Lombax and robit.
