Just joined, looking for Gamertags
Hi. I'm a friend of Grumpicus', and I'm almost certain that he convinced me to join GWJ a few years ago. Soon after that, though, hurricane Katrina happened, we lost our home and possessions, yada yada. I kind of lost track of that member signup, and had never really gotten active anyway.
On the other hand, I've always enjoyed reading the articles on GWJ, and am a longtime podcast listener (from the original days, over to Escape Radio, and then through every episode of the Conference Call). I tend to be more of a forum reader/lurker than poster.
Recently, I picked up Halo 3, took a long, hard look at all of the multiplayer games on the release list for the rest of the year, and realized that if I was really going to get into some good matches, I would have to meet some new friends who were interested in playing the same games. True, I work at a small gaming company (GameFlood), but the folks here tend to skew PC, and I've never expanded my friends' list to the point that there are enough people online at a given time
In any case, I'd love to get onto some more Friends' lists, and be able to share some Forge maps, play some Team Fortress maps, get sniped in Call of Duty 4, etc.
I look forward to seeing all of you online.

Welcome! You can find all our XBL tags here. Many of us also put it in our signature.

Thanks for pointing out that list. I wanted to make sure I introduced myself, so that if I sent friend requests, they wouldn't be coming from just some weirdo on Xbox Live.
Is there anyplace that GWJ-ers schedule games for various titles?

We generally have a thread for each game. This is the thread for Halo 3, for example, and here is the one for Gears of War.

Welcome! Good place to look is the events calendar or look for the "catch all" threads for a particular game to get an idea when people may be playing. Since you just got Halo 3 this thread is mostly dedicated for people who play on thursday nights.
ps. feel free to send me an invite; I'm also trying to build up my friend list w/ GWJ people; it's always an enjoyable time w/ these guys

Welcome, Fearful! Hate to be the one to do this to you, but:
We kind of have rules here against "Hello world!" threads. It's number 8 if you follow that link.
Hope to see you in Halo or Gears!

If you got a steam login post your steam page, inthe steam thread. Then every night about 9-10 CST look for the server to fill up and get in while you can for some good old TF2 fun!

By the by, CyberTrick, the way you are linking your gamertag isn't quite right. The URL you used will send a person to their own profile.
Try changing the url to the following, and it should work:
http://live.xbox.com/member/CyberTrick

1) Oops. Sorry about breaking rule #8 on my first foray. Mea culpa maxima.
2) Thanks, Pharacon, for the Steam invite, but I'm a console boy, especially for multiplayer (again, I work at a PC game company, ironically enough, but while I play PC games, I just can't hack multiplayer without a controller. Not that I'm particularly good with a controller, mind you). I'm actually hoping that some GWJ-ers will opt for the 360 version of TF2 when it comes out on the 11th
3) I've signed up for the Halo 3 group, and though I'll miss next week's game (heading out to Garage Games' Indie Gaming Convention next week), I look forward to getting repeatedly corpse-humped the week after.
Thanks everybody, and again, sorry about the rules violation. I'll read and obey in the future.

Not a problem, really. We just try to hold ourselves to a higher standard than some other web sites. Also, we're snobs.
You betcha!

Actually, you might be suprised, but there are a few other folks around here who have similar dispositions, so you should be able to find at least a few of us playing TF2 on the Xbox. Or rather, you might, if we can pull ourselves away from Halo 3. (Man, I wish the Orange box was coming out a few weeks later than it is.)
Right now you can pretty much find a good number of us playing Halo 3 any night of the week. The Thursday thing is the official day, and we try to keep to the spirit expressed in Danjo's opening post to that thread on that night, but once you have a few of us on your friend's lists it should be easy to find a group to play with.

Thanks for the info.
Just curious. I changed the link since I just noticed everyone else using the same format, but when I clicked on the old one, it still took me to the same place. Did it not work for anyone else but me that used the link??

Well, the URL you were using takes a person to the profile page associated with the gamertag they are logged into xbox.com as. So for you it took you to your profile, but for me it took me to mine.

Oohhhhh. Ok, great. Thanks for the heads up, I was not aware of that.

Tell me about it. The rest of this year is just ridiculous in terms of new releases. I'm actually hoping that a few of the smaller games get pushed into next year, just to give me more of a chance to play them.

I wouldn't worry about smaller games, if they get lost in the shuffle, come Spring 2008, they'll be cheap!
