October 1 - October 5
Those of you who think they have figured out my modus operandi for The Week Ahead may be somewhat surprised to discover that I will not be awarding my not-at-all-coveted Game of the Week honors to either Enemy Territory: Quake Wars or Project Gotham Racing 4. Despite my constant desire to artificially prop up all things PC-gaming related, with Quake Wars I can't help but feel that the ground of class-based, control-point-centered action gaming is so well trodden that it should appear in the next Rand-McNally atlas. It's a decent enough game that will generate a limited but rabid fanbase, despite never dramatically separating itself from the pack. As for PGR 4, if I have to read the press release to tell what the difference between the newest game and the last game is, then it might not have needed a sequel. And yet, a sequel is exactly what I am recognizing for the week, with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass taking the honors. As a direct sequel to the Wind Waker, and following a host of glowing reviews from its summer release in Japan, it's hard to deny that Zelda on the DS looks like the best bet to start off a busy October of gaming.
If you have missed Ken Burns' The War, which has been airing on PBS, and you have even a passing interest in World War II, then pick up the DVD set of the series to be released this week. It's been absolutely amazing! More, less deserving, DVDs here.

Nothing for me, which is perfectly fine.

Hum, every year I wait for Nba Live, usually dissapointing me. The last one I played and still play is 06, but now the say that Nba 2k8 is also comming for the PC, so I have an alternative, or not. The thing is that in the official page they don't say anything about the PC version and the funny thing is that at my local store they have publicity boxes of the game with the PC icon printed in them. Any other basketball fans out there know something about this?
...and so it continues, The Dark Times for my wallet, for it will suffer another $60 blow with the release of PROJECT GOTHAM RACING 4! – Historian/Accountant XXVIII, The Dark Times.

What, no love for Ninjabread Man on the Wii?
Oh, and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for me. Go go wallet empty!

You can "compete" in Quake Wars, but you can't "complete" Quake Wars

True. Maybe I should refine that to "get my money's worth".
Though I'm sure that all my "getting my money's worth" in WoW has got to have bled over somewhere into the rest of my stash.

Somethings to add to my Gamefly list (PGR4, Spider-man[demo was fun], Zelda), but nothing this week. Must save for Rockband and maybe GH3. Some others are a possible in the coming months, but I may have to hold off on many games if I plan to survive this semester.

Am I a bad man for wondering what exactly this game is?

Quake Wars is not a control-point oriented game, nor is it DM or Team DM, which is exactly why it is different from Halo, TF2, CoD4, the BF series, and the forthcoming UT3. Of course, I'm a part of the rabid fanbase minority who appreciate the steep learning curve. Does every game need to be exactly the same? Aside from TF2, which is really a very different type of game, I've never seen a game outside of the RtCW/ET series where the classes, and teamwork, were so important.

The DS Advance review listed its lowered difficulty as a negative point, which gives me some hope toward this product.
