A rocking road song. Starts strong and builds. Just try not to dance. I dare you.

Intricate and glorious. Pop music that's smart as well.

I can't seem to get Guster "Satellite" out of my head. It's got this dreamy/spacey pop sensibility that just digs its hooks in you.

Fujiya & Miyagi was a great find for me this year. The whole album "Transparent Things" is hella-strong, but the tracks "Ankle Injuries" and "Collarbone" are strong standouts.

The Rapture released "Pieces of the People We Love" in late Dec. '06, so I'll cheat a little and drop that into my "favorites of '07". They're a Dance-Punk group out of NYC with great energy. My picks off of their album would be "Whoo! Alright - Yeah...Uh Huh." and the very Police-inspired "Get Myself Into It".

True to form, I've been listening to a metric ton of music. These are the gems I've found so far this year
On the Electronic/Dance/Electro tip:
UNKLE - Hold My Hand (Hell, the whole War Stories album is fantastic!) (Hard driving, killer guitar riff with a heavy beat. So. AWESOME.)
Simian Mobile Disco - Hustler (Indie house? I really don't know if these new hipster electro groups have their own genre or not, but I likes it!)
M.I.A. - Boyz (Again, not sure what genre you can put M.I.A. in. Hip Hop? Dance? Indie? Just put it under damn catchy)
Kelly Polar - Chrysanthemum (Neu disco? Kelly Polar's "Love Songs of the Hanging Garden" was a gorgeous disco tinged disc and this EP is just as delicious.)
Justice - Genisis (Again, more idie electro hipster stuff!)
Guster - Satellite (The Astronauts Remix) (Gorgeous and uplifting. Perfect hot summer evening song for cuddling and slow dancing)
Erasure (Yes, Erasure, shush!) - I Could Fall In Love With You (Jeremy Wheatley Radio Mix) (Balls out, full on dance floor house. Gives me the shivers every time.)
Amon Tobin - Esther's (Amon Tobin. You either love his music, or you can't stand it. Almost, but not quite jazzy drum 'n' bass?)
On an alternative tip:
Husky Rescue - My Home Ghost (again, the whole album is fantastic!) (Slow, haunting, and melancholy. Love it)
Chrisette Michele - Your Joy (Gorgeous soulful ballad. Shame the rest of the album is generic R & B)
As for full on albums, this year's been great too. You've got the aforementioned War Stories by UNKLE and Husky Rescue's Ghost is Not Real. On a house tip you've got some amazing stuff out of Global Underground: After Hours 3 and GU: Mixed. Trent Reznor's Year Zero was a great step up from his last one. Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion is pop distilled down to it's purest most sugary core. Bebel Gilberto's Momento is full of downtempo latin awesomeness

Their new album is really one I need to check out more. The couple listens so far have been fantastic. Still upset that when I saw them live awhile back, Neko Case wasn't present. Glad she's back.

So have you listened to the whole album? I was absolutely smitten with '05s "Arular".
I imagine that it would be difficult to replicate the freshness found in Arular on her sophmore effort, but does it at least do the original work justice?
I've got the whole album and it's just "alright". It might grow on me, but right now I still think Arular's the better album.

Yep. Actually released 4 albums since then- October Rust, World Coming Down, Life Is Killing Me, and Dead Again.. they actually never really hit it big, they hit it lightly.

No Cars Go is my other favorite song off of Neon Bible; the new Editors album in general is bloody brilliant.
Yeah, it was a tough call between Uniform and some others off the album. I can't remember the name of the B-Side track with the chorus "Now our love has been forgotten....." That's great song.
Going to see them Friday night! Can't wait!

I heard the Arcade Fire's set from ACL fest on XM over the weekend, and man do those guys ever need to put out a live album. The intensity is so much higher than their studio recordings.

You have no idea how intense their concerts are. When they played here in Winnipeg 2 years ago the entire theatre was standing and dancing. The energy level was insane!

Splitting hairs, but No Cars Go was first released on the Arcade Fire EP in 2003. If you don't have the EP, get it. It's brilliant, and the rendition of No Cars Go is slightly different.
