So who are y'all voting for?
Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 - 10:03pm
I'm just curious. Care to post who's your candidate and why?
I'm not a US citizen but I find Mr. Barack Obama and Ron Paul to be interesting choices, they both seem pretty prepared.

I think you've got it pretty much summed up for me. I've heard interesting things about other candidates, but nothing outstanding.
Ron Paul is awesome, but I don't think he has a chance. Barack is pretty much the only alternative I don't dislike. Although I do think he's done a lot for such a young politician, especially bipartisanly.

I can't vote in the US but if I could, I would just vote for who I think is going to screw you guys (and a sizeable portion of the rest of us) over the least. Unfortunately, I'd be standing at the electronic voting terminal for hours.

Net Neutrality Rally in Ottawa on May 27th!
Too depressing to think about. Of the front-runners from both parties, one is known for being first lady, and the other for being the not-so-loved mayor of a city at the time it got attacked by terrorists. What kind of system results in such candidates for the world's most powerful office? It's scary.
I think it's still a little too early to say who I'll vote for, as I feel I don't have all the facts just yet. However, I am intrigued by some of the Democratic choices, though I think some of them advocate too much of a nanny-state for my tastes. Edwards still has some leftover goodwill with me from the days I worked on his campaign in 2004, and I like Bill Richardson, though I haven't heard much about him beside what I read off his website. And then - and I'm sure I'll be thought less of for admitting this - I do kinda like Hillary, too.

I used to like McCain but he seems to have gone totally insane over the last year. I really liked Obama until he said we should invade Pakistan.
I still think I'd vote for Obama, since he's the first politician I've thought would be at all good for the job rather than least-bad.

I'm with you on this. If I had to vote today, I'd vote Obama. He seems like he might actually stop and think -- maybe even listen -- before acting.

I have no idea at this point. It's too early for me to care. Is it just me or does the election hysteria start earlier and earlier each time?

Can the people for Obama tell me why you are for him? To me, he just seems like another career politician.
I think I'll be sitting this one out.
He's the only one I can watch on TV without puking. At least he manages to sound intelligent or sincere.

Also he's black, so if I vote for him I'm not a racist, yet he never talks about race so I don't feel threatened.
Seriously, I'd have to second the sincerity thing. When Obama speaks he sounds like he means what he says, yet unlike Bush what he says doesn't sound like total insanity. He doesn't talk like a politician and addresses issues without dressing up dodges with words like "terror" and "God."

Democrat: Obama with the Vice being Edwards or Hillary(used to really hate her but now she seems to be intelligent and mean).
Republican: Ron Paul with Vice Mitt Romney
Odds are the Democrats will provide my dream choice while the republicans won't. Therefore I will vote Democrat.
Why Obama? He has the most important quality a president needs: He's a great public speaker.

I found Mr. Ron Paul to be very interesting after watching this clip:

And I was disgusted by Mr. Rudy Giuliani laughing at Ron Paul at every chance he got. Laughing into the mike, come on, what kind of douchebaggery is that? Have some respect.
Ron Paul will never win because he's against big government, and I doubt Big Gov't will like that =)

Ron Paul will never win because the internet isn't the real world. On the internet everyone loves him, but in the real world he's barely on the radar.

I'd vote for Ron Paul.
If it comes down to Hilary vs. some goon like Romney, McCain, or the like, I'm just going to abstain. She's far too pro-censorship for my . I'm iffy on Obama, but I haven't written him off completely yet. I haven't seen a GOP candidate I like other than Ron Paul.
That would be because:
If big business/gov doesn't like you, they make sure you don't get mass media coverage.
I think a lot of the people who like Ron Paul, woudln't like Ron Paul after the primary. Just a guess...I think he is getting a lot of left/anti-war people.
The two people I can't stand the most are Mitt Romney and John Edwards.
I am seriously considering Cthulhu in 2008.
Ron Paul vs. Bill O'Rielly
As much as I dislike Bill O'Rielly, Ron got his ass trounced and it's his own fault. He forgoes obvious, valid arguments to take swings at Saudi Arabia (valid, but not the topic at hand) and point out hypocracies in Bill's stance (not a valid argument). It seems like he went on with a desire to talk about one thing and so decided every question was about that subject. That is not something I like in a politician.
I don't understand how people could dislike John Edwards, or really have any strong feelings about him one way or another. The guy's the definition of vanilla.

I can't support his anti-Necronomicon views. I just can't.

Yeah, that's a safe conclusion.

Amazing. Bill's asshattery manages to cross cultural boundaries. He might be the first internationally known douchebag to emerge from a network riddled with douchebags.
Bill O'Rielly is a pundit on Fox News. Arch-conservative asshat.

Wow. Yeah that's exactly it. Hmm, kinda makes me like Hillary even more then. I mean Cheney is a very evil man, who is very good at what he does. Hillary is less evil and could accidently do some good.

I don't agree with a lot of Paul's individual stances, but his primary stance (that of a staunch Constitutionalist) is something I think this nation needs for a while. We need to recenter a bit.
Ron Paul's platform is the closest to mine (Liberal on the left, Conservative on the right, I'm on the part of the map where it says "here there be dragons"), I just am not wild about him as a candidate. He just doesn't seem to do well thinking on his feet, and he's missed a few chances to really throw in some telling blows, like the debate where he was put down for suggesting that we brought 9/11 on ourselves (which most people outside of the U.S. tend to agree with, since they bear the brunt of our policies). If Obama had Paul's politics and integrity (he might have the integrity, haven't seen anything to the contrary), he'd be a shoo-in for me.
As it is, I'm waiting to see who the Libertarians put forward as their candidate.

I read an election opinion piece awhile back that said the only measure people should use when electing presidents is personality. Track records and experience are one thing but looking at a senator's voting record isn't going to give you a good indication of how they'll handle a national crisis. Vote for the candidate you trust and that you believe will make sound decisions. Anything else is nit-picking.
While that theory might be too simplistic, there's some wisdom in there. And with that in mind, I'm backing Obama (not that it'll matter in Wisconsin). He's the one Democratic candidate that I feel will make smart, informed decisions in office and also, just maybe, breathe some life and passion back into the presidential office. Get people actually caring about the government again.
