Question for Warhawk players.

This title has got me interested, the previews look decent, and it seems to have good buzz. I'm curious whether anyone here would help me figure out whether its worth the purchase (for me).

I generally tend to dislike multiplayer games, or mmo's. However, when Battlefield 1942 came out I loved it to death and got all the expansions, and play MP a lot, especially once the Forgotten Hope mod came out. But haven't found anything else since then that I liked, even the Counterstrike games just seemed boring. Mainly since it seemed you were playing for very short periods of time with very short matches.

Does Warhawk compare to Medal of Honor? I don't mean graphically, but in terms of 'wow'.

I don't do any 360 MP since I don't feel like wasting money on Live.

Just played the new quake wars demo that got released, while the graphics seemed nice, it also felt too much like quick matches (partiallity due to my noobness in it probably). Although much better in my book than the counterstrikes.

anyway, buy or not?

(corrected reference to game, should've been BF1942 and not MOH)

No one can really tell you if you're going to like Warhawk as much as Medal of Honor, especially since MOH isn't generally considered a "multiplayer game" of any special note.

Doesn't sound like Warhawk is for you.

Yeah if you consider Live a waste of money then a multiplayer only game like Warhawk is probably not worth purchasing...

I have only had the PS3 for a week now, and after a few evenings with Warhawk, I really like the game.
The money you would spend on Warhawk is almost as much as a year subscription to Live.
In my honest opinion, and without exaggeration, you would get 1 hojillion times the value out of a Live subscription than out of the awful, yet free, current iteration of the PSN.
Jumping from trying to set up something as simple as chat on the PSN to Live, is such a huge difference.
I will stop because I am not trying to incite or infer haterade, but I really can't stress the value of $5/month for a truly exceptional overall experience with Live, and not just for the multiplayer functionality.

live doesn't offer me anything that interest me though. since i don't do multiplayer on pc, and have no interest in multiplayer in any current 360 game, i see no other reason to pay for it. that's what i mean by 'wasting money on live'. as far as i know warhawk mp is completely free isn't it?

MOH broke my routine because i found it to be a great experience...

OH WAIT i didn't mean Medal of Honor, i meant Battlefield 1942 sorry about that

i loved BF1942 because the maps were huge and the myriad of options (vehicles and destryoying them) were well implemented.

its not that i swear multiplayer off for ever, its just that no games with multiplayer have interested me enough (in the mp part) to make me even want to play them after i finished the singleplayer part.

seemed BF1942 had the right combo of features to match length to interest me, was wondering if warhawk was similar in that regard.

I mostly only play Zones on ranked SCEA servers. I believe the match limit is either 30 minutes or 3000 points, whichever happens first. Seems like rounds last between 10 and 20 minutes although I've never really paid that close of attention. They certainly last long enough to get some good back-and-forth battles and allow a team to make a comeback if they fall behind.

Maps are good sized and have two or three different sized layouts to accommodate varying number of players. Variety is certainly in Warhawk as there's combat on foot, in vehicles, in AA turrets and in Warhawks. I do find it quite satisfying to look around and see tanks and jeeps driving around, Warhawks dogfighting and offering ground support, turrets firing at the Warhawks and solders on foot in the middle of it all.

It sounds like the stuff you like about Battlefield is also in Warhawk and possibly to a greater extent as there are a few different game modes and air combat is more fleshed out. I also find playing with strangers works out just fine, especially on servers that are set to auto-balance teams. I don't even bother with voice chat most of the time, just run around doing my thing and doing makeshift runs with others.

The controls are a little loose (I find sniping to be frustrating), there's a bit of auto-aim on some weapons and there are still issues with properly saving player stats. Other than that I love the game and can have fun with it for several hours at a time or to just sit down for a quick match or two.

Sounds like what you really want is Battlefield 2142.

i tried the 2142 demo, something about left me feeling 'no thanks'. maybe it was just because i love the ww2 genre so much. ah well, perhaps i'll grab warhawk when it gets cheaper on ebay.

I just got a PS3 and was on the fence for this game.

How often are GWJ people playing this?
Does it seem like it will be a fad or are people reallly excited to be playing this?
Also, hows the bluetooth headset that comes packaged with it?

Thanks

It's GWJ's #1 PS3 online game.

Well I've been waiting for it for a long time, so I'm excited.

Quite good. It was one of the best affordable BT headset models that people were seeking out for their PS3s before it became the official pack-in of Warhawk.

So you're the reason publishers keep pumping out WWII games over and over and over again.

That is deliciously misleading.
