Sure, we all expected games such as WarCraft 3, Battlefield 1942, and Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt to be the critic's sweetheart games during the round of GOTY selections, but there were quite a few games that could've and should've grabbed a lot of hardware. What are your picks for the Dark Horses of 2002?

I nominate Hitman 2 and Medieval: Total War.

ME:TW and IWD2 are my two sleeper GOTY.

America''s Army? Jedi Knight II (for the sake of the great saber-battles)?

I''m really kind of stuck on BF 1942 as my PC Game of the Year, and I normally love a dark horse winner. I will say that Divine Divinity was the best RPG I played this year, including Morrowind.

Sadly, I don''t believe I''ve played a single game on that''s been mentioned, except Jedi Knight II, and I only got about halfway through that. Considering I suck at RTS games, and get bored to fast with RPGs, there just hasn''t been anything out for awhile that I''ve really felt like buying.

I liked Dungeon Siege a lot,

Divine Divinity for my vote.

I think Freedom Force and Divine Divinity deserved way more acclaim than they ended up recieving. It''s a shame when you consider all the hype some games get (NWN and Dungeon Siege) and end up failing to meet a lot of people''s expectations.

Yeah I''ll second Dungeon Siege. For me it was a sleeper hit, I never heard of it then my mate rings me up and 2 weekends and several caffiene overdoses later we''ve finished it. I''m not sure why it gets given so much stick in this corner of the net. I really thought it improved on Diablo2 and I loved walking over the bridges. It was cool how deep the ravines were.

So yeah, Dungeon Siege... or maybe Moonbase Commander!

Phyrz, did you play the single player campaign or the multiplayer campaign?

Personally I was amazed at how negative the reception for DS was. I just didn''t get it, and the only thing I can think of is the single player campaign sucks. Me and my gaming pal played it over my lan and loved it. It was the only game in recent memory to suck me into a full on gaming marathon. We spent two sleepless weekends runing through the multiplayer campaign.

I hope to hell they anounce a sequel at E3 this year.
