Sept 3 - Sept 7
Happy Labor Day! I hope you're enjoying a fun day with the family decorating the labor day tree and singing labor day songs. At my house we actually open up labor day presents on labor day eve, and I got a new box of pens and a huge stack of multi-colored post-its! This is the best labor day ever!
Say, Johnny, do you like World War 2 shooters? I know, who doesn't? Well, EA Games is bringing you the greatest generation, now rendered in next-gen glory as, yet again, one man single handedly takes on the third-reich to save the free world from tyranny and foods that ends in 'wurst'. I don't actually mean to mock the efforts of World War II veterans, as much as I mean to mock a decade of endless WWII inspired games. I've had just about all I can handle of panzer tanks and beach invasions, which is why I'm passing over Medal of Honor: Airborne for the John Woo/Chow Yun Fat digital vehicle John Woo Presents Stranglehold. I wonder if anyone will jump in slow motion while firing two guns?
On DVD this week is the third season of the best show on television: The Office. Jim and I should totally hang out. More DVDs here.

This is the most clichéd week in gaming ever.
XBOX: - 2 Shooters
PC: - 2 Shooters, Adventure Game, Sims Expansion
DS / PSP: Mobile Port of established franchise
Wii: Garbage glorified minigame
PS3: Nothing.
Seriously. How can we be expected to not pigeonhole systems when we get weeks like this?
(Please note that this post is an equal opportunity discriminator)

Pool party for Wii looked like fun until I realized that it was a pool game.

Stranglehold and Medal of Honor: Airborne, judging by the demo... both seem fun.

I'd rather not even bother with MOH-- yet another WWII game. I was burned out on these after the first Call of Duty, and I hardly played anything from the MOH series. Granted, Stranglehold doesn't really seem to bring anything truly new to the table, but it was still fun, judging by the demo. Plus, I'm a big fan of the John Woo flick "Hard-Boiled" and since this game is a sequel, of sorts...
Anyway, is it just me, or does it seem like the games industry is slowly going the way of the Hollywood buffalo? Or perhaps not so slowly-- but it seems like more and more games are turning out to be "safe bets" that don't really push the envelope in any new direction-- it's all about franchises that are guaranteed money makers-- thus, constant fantasy-based MMO's, FPS World War II games, etc... Even Stranglehold looks to be a Max Payne clone, the only really new selling points appear to be the collaboration with Woo and Chow Yun Fat...
I'd really just like to see new things like Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari (even though that's gone all franchise/stale on us as well), Overlord, or Psychonauts much more often. Or at least, I'd like to see bigger companies like EA go out on a limb more often, especially since those companies are the ones that could better handle the backlash if the limb might break... Instead we get tons of iterations of Need for Speed and football...
sorry, I'll end my rant here...
Labor day? I have no idea what this is... do you all go out and work? It's not even spelled correctly....

I agree that the WWII FPS has been done to death, but I was not impressed by Stranglehold. The controls were floaty and I felt that the game brought little to the genre.
Look, kids! Nut shot. HAHAHAHHA...
*yawn*
MoH Airborne at least has some pedigree to it. I am eagerly awaiting CoD4 . I actually got a beta invite, but have been playing MUA Alliance so I can unlock Black Panther and Daredevil. I finally found 5 of each figurine. Curse you OCD. Curse you!!!!!
That's not so bad. I would take Sam & Max over Stranglehold, you know, if they ever decide to bring it to the 360.
They are working on bringing Sam and Max to the consoles - it was initally announced back in March and they reiterated it at PAX during their panel. Here's the inital news.

So Sam and Max is out now? I might get the chance to finally finish the season.
Yet even then we ran like the wind,
whilst our laughter echoed under cerulean skies...
They did a special edition retail box for the PC with the full season that just came out a few weeks ago. I don't have a date as to when they're going to Xbox.

Now that makes me happy. I would gladly get Sam & Max over Stranglehold & MOH any day. Now the problem of funds comes into play... :,-(
