what I want to know is, how is this guy (on the Amazon page) reviewing something that hasn't come out yet? "Five stars! Futurama is awesome!" Well, sure it is... but you're not reviewing the concept of "Futurama," pal. For all we know, these direct to DVD eps could stink.
(I hope not, but still...)

Pfft, that's how cool he is. He can review things he's never even seen.

I've never got Futurama. I always found the jokes to either not be that funny or made up of stuff that was funny years ago. So many people like it though so I think maybe I'm just not watching the right episodes.

You need to watch all of them. Really. Go out and get the DVDs now. Posthaste. And prehaste. Not to mention fore and afthaste.

It's got some episodes that stand out, but I'd say 60% of the Futurama's entire run was generic filler content. The show got worse the longer it was on the air, until the inevitable point of cancellation.

Some of Futurama was absolutely brilliant. The episode where Fry decides to clone his dog from the far past was one of the most poignant bits of cartooning ever done. And there were lots of really, really funny throwaway bits; the Hypnotoad, for instance.
Its biggest problem, I think, was that it was inconsistent.
I wish you people could see me actually physically repelled from the screen by your opinions.
I was going to talk about why it is so good, but, I don't know how I could convince someone that has seen the show and still wasn't impressed.
That should do it, you know, just watching it.

I think Stylez has a couple of seasons on DVD so maybe I'll try to borrow those or barring that, add them to my Zip.ca queue. If one can appreciate the show more by watching it more, I'll definitely give it a shot.

Good news everybody! I've seen every episode of Futurama maybe a dozen or more times, and still laugh aloud when I see them again. The idea that there could be opinions and tastes different then mine on the internet calls my concept of reality into question.
However. I am thrilled that these are finally coming out, and pray the quality is as high as the show. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the headsup Rat Boy.
I wholeheartedly agree!
Again, the concept of "filler" in an episodic TV series befuddles me. Was Seinfeld full of 'filler' content? Other shows? I think the goal was to tell different stories in the Futurama universe and at that they succeeded. Now, you may not have enjoyed every episode, but that just makes you dumb.

I always find the show to be pretty hilarious, and sure there are some hit or miss episodes. When the show was airing originally, I enjoyed it much more that the simpsons episodes airing at the same time. Would Futurama be able to survive for 18 years? Maybe not, but I enjoyed it enough while it was around.

"Seinfeld" managed to be consistently funny and creative. It hardly had any filler content at all. Same goes for "Friends".

I look forward to this, It will be a first day purchase for myself
I really like Futurama though, it's a great show that I think ended way to soon.

Filler. Heh.
Yeah, welcome to Amazon.com. Beats the hell out of me why they allow user reviews of items they know haven't been released yet.

You know normally I see your criticisms of things I like and I gloss over them because they're at least understandable as someone else's point of view and because I'm in the same situation often enough. But man, you just claimed that Friends had almost no filler content.
I may never agree with you again just on principle.

It's a comedy show. It managed to remain consistently funny over its 10 year run, which is a very hard thing to do. This is why it has achieved overwhelming popularity and success. This is why it squashed lesser comedy shows, which relied on filler content to get them through the phases when the writers weren't feeling "creative". Seinfeld was the same way.
You just disagreed with me out of principle, so I suppose you'd want to continue for consistency's sake.

After a while I found Friends very generic and not funny. The same goes for The Simpsons.
One thing that set Futurama apart was that it had a storyline and an eventual ending.

Ok... first thing's first. I really really really love Futurama. That's an abridged version of my opening sentence, by the way. In reality, it should be at least 40 or so very's there. I've watched every episode so many times, I'm not sure I could count. I've owned all the DVDs for a while, and have also watched every episode's commentaries almost as many times as I've seen the episodes without. For any Futurama fan who has NOT done this, I strongly suggest it (watching it with the commentaries, not necessarily the number of times I have). The commentaries for Futurama are probably the ONLY commentaries I really like (other than a FEW from Firefly that included at least one actor/actress).
That said "Bender's Big Score"? Gag. Don't get me wrong. Bender is a GREAT character. He's lovable even when he's cut another character's throat with a broken bear bottle. That's something. But, episodes that featured Bender heavily were always a little disappointing to me compared to other episodes. I prefer him when basically everything he says is a joke rather than him being a central plot character who drives the story along.
And if Hermes is in a jar, how is he supposed to limbo? Using a head-mobile (like Bender did when he sold off his body) doesn't count according to the Intergalactic Limbo association rules.
Oh yeah, and if we don't see Fry and Leela kiss, I'm gonna be filled with anger. Lots of it.

Guys - obviously, Futurama has fused itself so closely with the very core of your being, that a critical comment made about the cartoon invokes an allergic reaction that drives you to attack the commentator himself.
You might want to get that looked at. Oh, and check your partners - there appears to be an outbreak

There were no personal attacks anywhere - just several observations that if your opinions are so contrary to our own, then surely we must have contrary opinions on every other topic. If, for instance, you prefer horizontal green stripes on your sweaters, you may assume we each will wear vertical red stripes as the only means of retaining balance in the universe.
I think what Shiho is trying to tell you, DS, is that your stupid, and that your big ugly face is as dumb as a butt.

Just having fun, Shiho. Certainly didn't intend it as an attack.
