New Demos on Xbox Live
There have been a lot of demos put up on Live over the last 2 weeks and only a couple threads have popped up. It's a mystery as to what game could possibly be that good that it would draw people's attention away from the abundance of demos
I thought it might not be a bad idea to start a thread to to get some impressions. There may be a couple more demos that I missed but these are the ones I have downloaded.
Tiger Woods 08
NHL 08
Madden 08
Blazing Angels 2
Skate
Timeshift
Medal of Honor: Airborne
Call of Juarez
Brief impressions from the ones that I have played:
Madden 08: Very well layed out visually. Being kind of a Madden newbie I found this to be more accessible. I ordered the full version soon after partially because the Pats kick ass ![]()
Blazing Angels 2: Way better then the first one although it still looks like rental material for me. Improvements over the first game include: cockpit view, simulation controls, better visuals, and better teammate AI.
Skate: I have never really been into this genre of games but I found this to be a more visceral, gritty implementation of skating then Tony Hawk. Your viewpoint is based around the board not the guy and the sound seems pretty spot on. The tricks are much harder to do and, in my opinion, much more rewarding.
Medal of Honor: As I mentioned in the other thread this was a fun demo but renter material for me. They scrapped the co-op which they had previously said would be in game. I think this game is launching at a bad time with so many AAA shooters being released.
Call of Juarez: I grew board of the demo fairly early. I felt the shooting mechanics were clumsy and not very fun. If you have a thing for westerns you may get more out of it.

I for one, need to dl Timeshift. Didn't see it on there last night. When did it come up?
There is no reason why good cannot triumph as often as evil. The triumph of anything is a matter of organization. If there are such things as angels, I hope that they are organized along the lines of the Mafia. - Kurt Vonnegut
Looks like some good stuff, too bad my Xbox is bricked.

baggachipz: Who cares about Japan, let them have their silly pointless dog games and countless re-hashes of anime-based dragon princess super lucky crapitty crap.
Here's hoping my rapidly declining DSL service can actually download all this stuff without choking this time. Man I can't wait until I get the 8MB cable installed this weekend.

I saw Timeshift up there this morning and started the download before I went to work. I'm not sure when it was put up.

Timeshift hit xLive around 5pm yesterday... I downloaded but didn't get a chance to play it. I decided to stop by Rapture and kind of could not leave.
I got to say that xLive been really lively as of late, which is awesome... especially when compared to PSN store. That place is pretty much dead most of the time.

Timeshift: Poor controls, AI, weapons, level design, graphics, and when the time powers aren't making the firefights boringly easy, they're being used for trial and error deathtraps.

It sounds like the demo is even a skipper.

Meh, free is free. Nothing to lose but your time. None of those aspects of the game are completely awful, just poor. Unfortunately there's not a single feature that stands out and tries to balance out the poorness.

And I read somewhere that the time powers are toothless in terms of enacting real modifications. Meaning, if there's a guy getting killed heinously, you're welcome to back up time to try to save him but you will not succeed. You can empty your clip into the perpetrator's noggin, try to steal his gun, dive in front of the f*ckin' bullet and the guy still dies. Meh.

I'm very disappointed with Timeshift. I was hoping for the phyiscs and mechanics of F.E.A.R. but more interesting outdoor environments. The demo was pretty "meh" and I don't think they picked a good level/senario to introduce people to the IP with.
[edit] Wow, I'm the last person who would ever be interested in skating (rl or video games) but skate looks and plays really well. I enjoyed the demo and might go back and rent this when the next gaming drought strikes.
Lag used to be a lot worse back in the day. Hell, it took Jesus 3 days to respawn.

I said it in the Sports forum, and i'll say it here, skate. looks slick as all hell, and i'm really amped for it now. Meanwhile, I spent roughly 180 seconds with MOH:A before deleting it from the system entirely.
