The Gamers with Jobs Demographic
Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 - 5:16pm
Someone pointed me to this site today, and for fun I punched in GWJ to see where it lands. Based on the top 3 similar sites (based on some statistical affinity crunching of some sort), we're a curious bunch.
pa.penny-arcade.com
xbox-scene.com
catsthatlooklikehitler.com
Looking back, i see that there was ONE post in 2006 that referenced the feline site. That post seems to have had a major impression on some of you people.

Wow...you guys are old
I'm kind of shocked at the number of females. Sometimes I feel like I'm almost alone.
That page is clearly so off the mark that it could as well be filled with random numbers.

Hmmm.
Must like php, css 3, and long walks in the park.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
This thing is totally bogus. If you want to know where people are from, sign up for our Frappr group.

I don't want to talk about our internal numbers, but this is seems pretty dramatically off the mark.

¿No que siempre escribo en español? A veces el Internet no me traduce las palabras al inglés perfectamente, pero en mayor parte funciona bien. Hm"…veo que esto es uno de esos momentos.

We're only a few thousand below Penny-Arcade? Bogus!
Yet even then we ran like the wind,
whilst our laughter echoed under cerulean skies...
Apparently the majority of us are 50 years old, Hispanic, and make over $100k a year?

Extraño, no me siento rico, viejo, o hispanico.

They have a disclaimer in the upper left corner.
I think we all have an idea how rough their estimates are.
Go for their eyes boo
40 grit sandpaper?
To be fair, the 100 mark on the charts is the internet average - something I completely missed on the first read.
So if the internet average for a site like this has 30 Hispanics, then our listing at 200 on the chart just means we've 60 - not that we've twice as many Hispanics as Caucasians (rated close to 100).

They're fishing for real data by putting these up there and hoping someone will come in and "correct" it. They're a marketing data company, and they're skeezy as all heck. I ran into them here at the Daily Planet.
Just avoid making eye contact and move on.
