There are a lot of good reasons to buy the 360 and IMHO most of them don't have to do with Bioshock or any one particular game, but rather Live, XBLA, the ease of playing together with friends and the rest of the library as a whole.

Bioshock was one of the biggest reasons I finally caved in and just joined the current-gen world (I love my Wii, but it is in its own category). Between the compelling argument put forth in the PC or 360 thread [(1500 dollar PC + 360) > 2000 dollar PC], the recently extended warranty on the 360, Guitar Hero 2 and Bioshock not being very playable on my 2.5 year old PC, I couldn't really hold out once there was a 50 dollar price cut on the system.

Based on an hour of playing the 360 demo, to me Bioshock seems very good but I wouldn't buy a console for it. You could always play it on a PC.

That said, I've had a 360 since last Christmas, and have not played it enough but I am getting time for it again. As folks have said above, XBox Live is nice, downloading demos is nice. It's a solid console. And there are some games that really are unique to the 360 and great. Like Gears of War (for the time being anyway).

Hehe. I'm just trying to give the guy an honest opinion. The Goodge hive mind is full release day frenzy right now. A year ago I would be running out to buy the collector's edition at full price, only to have the game sit and gather dust after playing it an hour.

Yep. Be leery of the hype plus folks have been starved for a game on their 360s and pcs for months now. That being said I'm picking it up, but I ain't giving it a free pass.

FWIW, I think the 360 is worth buying. I just don't think one game is the reason to buy it. The 360 has developed a library of games ranging from good to excellent, and has what is still as far as I know the best online system for consoles.

I downloaded the Bioshock demo to the 360 because it was, well, easier to do that than get it installed on my PC. And I could at least check it out. Whether I buy Bioshock for 360 versus PC is a different question.

There's plenty of reasons to buy a 360. I just wouldn't buy it for a single game, especially on that game's release day.

I'm gonna, I'm just sure that next week or something there's going to be a price drop and I'll be pissed. Meh. Oh, and as to the HDTV, I have no family at the moment (that I'm living with at least), so that's not too much of a consideration.

Bioshock is not the reason I would buy the console, but I think it's enough to put me over the edge.

Pretty much. Just don't buy a core system. The only reason I could see for continuing to wait would be if HDMI really mattered to you but you either didn't want to buy an elite or the new HDMI premium packs haven't made it out to your region yet.

I don't think any game is worth buying a console for, so no.

If there are other games that interest you on the platform, then it's worth buying. I do like my 360 and must have spent hundreds of hours playing on it, despite only having three games.

Those are my reasons for owning it.

There are tons of other ones I don't even involve myself with. I see plenty of friends always playing Gears, GRAW, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty and on and on.

And yeah, I'm sure on that list somewhere (depending on your tastes), Bioshock. Bioshock isn't for me, so I wouldn't buy the console for that. I bought it for Crackdown and Viva Pinata and ended up really loving it for all the above reasons.

I think trip1eX is right, though. The hype here over Bioshock is overwhelming. So I thought for my part (since Bioshock isn't for me, being horror survival-ish, gory, etc.) I would give other reasons why a 360 is a great purchase. Especially at the current price.

Well first off, that quote is talking about the UK and not the US, and there's certainly nothing behind it but complete rumor. It also comes from an article that was written days before the announcement of the UK price cuts.
