Xbox 360 VGA cable

I'd like to hook up my xbox to my computer monitor for higher resolution picture so I got a VGA cable.

The cable has one of those square outputs for video and then a red and a white output which I assume is for audio.

But, what do I do with the audio outputs; is there any way to hook them up my computer's speakers?

I did the same thing for a while since my desktop monitor is way better than my tv. For the audio cables, I used an audio y-cable adapter so that I can hook it up to the input/aux slot on my soundcard. The audio lines from the VGA cable is really short. I had to place the 360 right next to my desktop.

Yes, you can get a Y-adapter to make the two speaker jacks into a single 1/8" jack. Plug that into the Line-In on your sound card, and then use your computer speakers for the sound. That's what I used to do.

EDIT: Damn, beat to the punch!
EDIT2: Here's a link to the sort of adapter you'll need, but please don't pay $7 for one.

Yeah, I got one with mine. Check your packaging carefully, it was kind of wedged in the top.

XBox 360 (any of them) doesn't come with a VGA cable. The elite comes with an HDMI (and component) cable but not VGA. I'm at least 98.2% sure on this one.

Think you got the wrong end of the stick here. They were saying that the y-splitter (converger) came with the VGA cable.

Ah, you're right, my mistake! The audio Y-splitter does come with the official VGA cable, can't comment on 3rd Party cables myself.

You can get the official 360 VGA cable from NewEgg for a decent price, Doug. Just search it on their site

I would also recommend calling around to your local EBGames/Gamestop stores and seeing if they have any used. I found a Microsoft branded one for $10 and it works great and is a heckuva lot cheaper than retail.

Also, if you use a VGA cable, don't forget to change your black reference levels in the system settings. This feature just went into the Spring Update but it lets you pick from 3 settings (standard, intermediate, extended) so that you don't get a washed out effect. I forget the details of why this was implemented, something to do with PC monitors handling black colors slightly differently than HDTVs.

I got a used cable from EB a while ago, but it didn't appear to come with the y-adapter, hence my confusion. Damn EB...

Radioshack'll help me out, then onto to pretty picture goodness.

OH hey I just picked up 2 sets of 360 vGA cables (official brand new sealed MS ones) for $16 plus tax ($1.30) on my lunch break today at an OUT of Business sale at a GameCrazy here.

Give me $25 for a set to defray my shipping costs and it's yours.

I made an adapter that converts the red & white male RCA plugs into a female headphone jack. Now I can game using my headphones without sending the signal through a receiver or computer audio cars. It doesn't get super loud, but it lets me keep my gaming sounds to myself.

If you're interested, I'll post a list of parts you'll need to make one for yourself (with just a little bit of soldering involved).

You could also get extension cabels for the Red and White hook ups.
