Most Obnoxious Embedded Ad EVER

I thought it might just be local, but there's this dude that made like a dozen crappy little inventions and he has all these commercials where he screams at you to order them. Well, I just went to GameTab and what do I see, but an ad for his car cleaning thing. OK, fine. It starts screaming at me... Not quite so fine, but whatever.

THERE IS NO MUTE BUTTON. THERE IS NO STOP BUTTON. IT'S NEARLY 2 MINUTES LONG.

Dear God, what hath science wrought?

That doesn't make it OK. People who design sh*t like that should be tarred and feathered.

And even though it has no sound, whoever designed the dancing-silhouette-mortgage-guy at CNN.com has reserved a special place in hell.

Well, if you feel that strongly about it, perhaps you should contact the website about their annoying ad. In the end, you're a "customer" of their site and they should care about your experience.

Yes! One has to absolutely hate themselves to browse the web without AdBlock.

I dont think he even invented half of that crap, he is just the one they are choosing to yell about their inventions.

The ad companies are the customers, they are the ones that pay the bills. Site viewers are what the site sells to the customers.

A site needs both to stay in the black. They may take a large enough number of complaints seriously.

CNN has some pretty lousy embedded ads. they've driven me to BBC for my main news site. Good if i care about the "Foot ball" but not enough about the USA (USA! USA!) british people, get on that.

I feel the same way about AdBlock, but I've learned to be a little cautious when posting links or sending people to pages.

It will be a sad sad day when Adblock gets mainstream enough that webmasters take notice and start embeding things in such a way that would make it not work anymore. Just a note though, I do suggest adding sites you want to support to the appropriate place in the options, since it will "hit" those ads and give the sites "views" for those ads, even if you never see them.

I've been using Adblock for around 2 years now I think. I can't imagine surfing the web without it. Honestly, IE7 is a decent competitor to Firefox now, but no Adblock, no way. I might even go out on a limb and say that Adblock is more important to me than tabbed browsing.

Jjust to clarify the current incarnation is Adblock Plus, with the automatic list updates, which is so amazingly awesome. I remember a long time ago you had to go out and search for good block lists and manually import them.

Huh? Could you explain that in more detail? It sounds like everybody wins except advertisers, and since I'm not one of them, that works for me.

Hmm, strange, I don't see that option anymore. Was it removed in one of the versions? Or is that in Adblock but nor Adblock Plus? I need to look into this and see where I misplaced that....

Question: Does it work on IE7?

I just looked at the Adblock Plus page and I'm not sure it works with IE7. I don't want to load it on my work PC, which is IE7, if it's not compatible.

Quote:
Latest release
Install Adblock Plus 0.7.5.1
Minimal requirements: Firefox 1.5, Thunderbird 1.5, SeaMonkey 1.0, Flock 0.5, Songbird 0.2.
Note: It is recommended to use at least Firefox 2.0, Thunderbird 2.0, SeaMonkey 1.1 or Songbird 0.2.

Fun link, though a little questionable. I don't consider Nazis to be "annoying," so much as "horrifying," nor do I typically find people annoying for being things they can't change.

Also:

Why she might be annoying: A fire destroyed her home on Christmas (2001). (and under why she might not be annoying it mentions how she had to be treated for smoke inhalation)

Wow... umm... I sure hate those obnoxious jerks that uh... lose their home to fire in the middle of winter.

Sad to say it, but my wife kissed Billy Mays at some home show. My daughter reminds me of that fact every time one of his ads come on.

No. Adblock is part of the wonderful world of "extensions" that are the primary reason to use a Mozilla-based browser and not IE7.

My work computer doesn't have Firefox installed either - I bring a thumb drive with Firefox Portable (and lots of other PortableApps) with me to work every day.

Ok, it seems that was an old "regular" Adblock feature but it is not in Adblock Plus. I can't live without the neat new toys though, so what I am doing for this site now (and others I want to support) is just use the "disable on.." feature that's easy to get to from the toolbar widget. (the stop sign ABP icon)

I think we need to round everyone here up that is still using IE and have an intervention. Or even give them a chance to explain why they are using that filthy thing, to which we can offer 10 counter-reasons. You don't have to use Firefox, but you sure shouldn't be using IE, I would hope we could all agree on that. Surfing the web with Internet Explorer makes baby Jesus cry.

IE7 isn't the hell of previous IEs, but browsing without Adblock is like... playing video games on standard definition TVs or something, I don't know... it's self loathing.
