I guess that explains why the PS1 and PS2 launched with so many reliability issues. They were saving all their effort for the PS3.
I've been messing around with the new one I bought for a couple of days now (got Yellow Dog Linux installed yesterday) and there's no question that this thing is a very well-built machine. Almost hard to believe it probably came out of the same factory as the 360.

Why is it tacky to post entire articles in a thread? Sometimes people are blocked from links or the link dies.

Because most sites survive on ad revenue, and if you don't actually have to go to the site to read the article it hurts the amount of money they can get to support their site.

In part because it amounts to stealing traffic that the article would have generated for their site, if you're liberal enough with your definition of "stealing."

What Stric said, plus if I want to read the entire article, I'll click the link. Quote the highlights or just let the link stand.

I guess I'm just used to being on a forum where simply posting a link can kill it in minutes. I guess being an idealist isn't so bad, but you're not going to put anybody out of business by "stealing" news like this.

I thought it more annoying to post a link to a link of an article. =)

I'd suggest you give us a summary of the article and what would make us want to read it along with the link.
Good point.
Back on topic. The PS3 has been an extremely reliable machine for me. One thing I noticed recently is that the console will actually warn you when it is overheating. My brother was watching a DVD on his PS3 which is in a completely enclosed cabinet in his entertainment center, and suddenly the screen said the unit was overheating and turned off.

Here's the actual article.
Oh blogosphere, when will you learn!

Believe it or not, the 360 works the same way. It'll give you two red lights and shut down.

So, the thing that allegedly survived a stress test including DVD playback in a frickin' heat sauna can't stand that?
It's not that hard to believe. The sauna maxed out at 120 degrees F. Internal temperatures of the PS3 are higher than that (people have measured the heat exhausting from the system as being 130+ F). I can easily see being in tight quarters and being unable to generate airflow being far tougher to take than being in a sauna where the outside temperature is warmer than normal, but still lower than what's cookin' inside the box. Especially if there's anything else in that enclosed entertainment center kickin' out hotter-than-120F exhaust air.
