EA digging the nails in.

There's been a lot of EA related stuff going on recently, starting with Don Mattrick being swapped like an unwanted football sticker for Peter Moore.. Now they've increased their stakes in Ubisoft and shifted another management guy over to Microsoft
So, my question is, what the heck is going on here? Does it feel to anyone else like something is afoot or are these the regular wheelings and dealings of a mega corporation?

Jesus, did I say that? Or just think it? Was I talking? Did they hear me?

This is starting to worry me. I think EA is taking over Ubisoft, they are just doing it slowly, either because they can't afford it outright or are just waiting to see if Ubisoft keeps growing at the rate they are. Apparently, EA's latest stake now gives them the ability to boot out board members if they choose and have large-scale decision influence in the company. And as long as EA can convince people to keep paying for the same sports games year after year again, their growth will always out-pace Ubisoft's (and many others.) This industry needs more competition and not less and if we see Ubisoft's corporate values and creative approach (which is vastly different from EA's) assimilated into the collective, I think it will strike a veyr abd blow for gaming as a whole. Unfortunately, short of a huge stock buyback (which they can't afford) or another suitor to jump in and buy up the rest of the company, there's nothing they can do about it. Everything Yves Guillemot does to try to innovate and branch his company out in different directions just makes them more attractive to EA.

I predict Ubi will abandon catchy titles after Splinter Cell like Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, etc... and just do years. Coming soon, Splinter Cell '09. GRAW and Rainbow Six will soon follow suit. Then we can have an '09 game every month through 2008.
