Stranglehold Catch All Thread
I don't believe such a thread has been created yet and I figured now would be a good time as the Xbox 360 demo is reported to be coming out tomorrow (as early as midnight tonight). Here's some severly unofficial articelage to try and back it up:

"Direct from the Offiical Midway Forums; John Woo's Stranglehold finally has a concrete demo date, 8/7/07 for the Xbox 360.
"Midway today announced that a demo for the action-packed and award-winning, 3rd person action adventure title, Stranglehold, will be available for download on Xbox Live and PC in early August. Stranglehold, starring international film icon Chow Yun-Fat and world-renowned action director John Woo, brings all of the action and suspense of a summer blockbuster to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. As for the demo... August 8th is set in stone."

Honestly, I want this to be awesome, because I want a bigger presence for the games industry in Chicago. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm also very interested in opinions on this game. I'm planning to upgrade my PC for this and the slew of other games coming out in the next couple of months. If this game sucks my upgrade has to wait a little longer.
Key question: Is it as good as Max Payne?

Any word for PS3 demo? I want the free movie but I don't really want to play anything other than RPGs on PS3 controller.

Now word on the PS3 demo and I wouldn't hold your breath for two reasons. 1) The PS3 version was reportedly delayed until mid-Sept and 2) Sony has been slow on getting their PS Store updated with new content.

Demo tomorrow?!?! I can't wait.
This is definitely on my radar, along with Bioshock. I really like the "bullet time" shooting ability with multiple ways to take out baddies.

IGN just posted their impression of the demo but I think I'm going to wait to play it first. Just noticed they also have some
nice HD vids!!

A demo that allows unlocks for another play through? Good job devs!!
However, I hate the camera problems he mentioned in the demo, they need to be fixed before retail.
I didn't realize how much blood could be in this game, wow. Something tells me playing this will be so satisfying and enjoyable, if you like action games.
Xbox Live: Kooter06
from the look of the videos i think the game will be fun for me and is probably a buy, because i tend to enjoy this type of bloody-shoot-em-up action games. however it really doesn't look like it presents anything new from the Max Payne days.
other than some destructible environment, the game looks pretty generic and similar enough to Max-Dead-to-Payne-Right-Etc. except with Asian characters.
maybe i'll go pick up the new Hard Boiled DVD today. i'm totally gonna run around with 2 glocks with Tequila.

Mine has been downloading for almost two hours now. Usually doesn't take this long.

Ah, one of the few things I like about working from home. Just got to play up to the first checkpoint. The camera seemed fine to me except for when you got into really tight area's, which there really aren't too many of. Tequila automatically slides over things like tables or countertops, and if you are aiming at an enemy while doing this it goes into bullet time automatically. Everytime you kill an enemy in a stylish way like while sliding down a railing or across a table you get style points, however I don't know what they get you. It's too bad this comes out the week after Bioshock otherwise this would be a purchase.

Good idea. I was just saying I wish it was out now because I would like a change from Forza2 which I've been playing since it came out. I'll probably just wait till October so it can fill in the void that GTA4 left.
Also, if you go into the options in the demo you can choose what type of tv you have and the picture quality will change depending on which one you choose.

Downloading it now. Probably going to take all afternoon though.

I wish they would also release a multi-player demo. I am interested to see how they are going to implement bullet time.

I started downloading it this morning and I was amazed at how fast it was going around 30% in less than 10 minutes but I really hope it's done by the time I get home, I am looking forward to trying it out.

I don't know.

I look at the videos and realize how awesome the singleplayer will be but I also realize that multiplayer will never work as it should.

I can't wait for the full game to have an additional story with Tequila. After years away from Chinese cinema i was introduced back into it with Hard Boiled. I was sucked in big time.

Just got done playing through the demo. I was laughing maniacally nearly the whole time.

Weird, the demo downloaded for me super fast.
This game is a blast, it's like Max Payne ramped to an absurd level. I wasn't really paying any attention to Stranglehold before the demo was released and now this is going to be a first day purchase for me.

Me want.

I actually find a big bug: blew some stuff up and got dropped down below the world about 6ft. It was interesting checking out the map from underneath like that.
Xbox Live: Kooter06
I finally got a chance to play through the demo and I'm really digging it. The destructible environments are fun to blast through and the precision aiming is freaking awesome. Reminds me so much of Sniper Elite (little known sniper game for the Xbox). I'll definitely rent this from Gamefly but doubt I'll purchase with all the other great games coming out this fall/winter. They REALLY should have followed in the footsteps of Mercenaries and released this during the "off-season", which was late-Feb, early-March last year. Stranglehold would probably do a lot better in sales outside of the peak season that's upon us. I'm really curious to see how the multiplayer turns out but regardless, this game WILL NOT come anywhere close to competing with the awesomeness that is Bioshock.
Without spoiling too much, I will say there are two add'l weapons hidden in the level and one is worth getting although it comes a little to late in the demo. I wish they showed gave us a small taste of the nades and RPGs but that's asking a lot for a demo.

I think the demo was good, not great.
The gameplay was a little loose and floaty, reminding me a bit of the gunplay in Dead to Rights. Shooting someone ought to be a little more satisfying.
Some stuff just needs some more polish. More than a few times I would end up in slo-mo for a fraction of a second because I bumped into the corner of a table and Tequila performed the world's shortest table slide. There's a lot of little things like that.
That said, there's some cool stuff to enjoy. Should be a fun rental, but definitely not a purchase.

They've got about 8 choices but I'm not really sure which option would be best 46' HD flat screen projection. I was thinking I should be using the "tube-HD" option? Any thoughts??

and there is another... Thought I was the only person to play this little gem?
Anyway loved the demo - so many games coming and tough to choose. 360 or PC? I think there is a PC demo later this month. I know this title feels like it was meant to be played on the console, but using my 360 control would be sweet on my PC. Have to see if the PC version is just a "crap" port or they put effort into it.
