Anybody here a member? I just joined a week or so ago to post my photography, and I was just wondering if anyone else uses dA for displaying their art.

nice shots....macro focus much? I'm pretty addicted to it as well.

What are you shooting those with? The color is way better than what I have.

Canon Powershot A530. It's pretty good, but not nearly as good as my sister's Canon Rebel. That thing is awesome to the max, dude. That's one of my first or second purchases once I have a decent job (i.e., once someone actually gets back to one of the applications I've submitted).

And yeah, I love macro focus. Bokeh FTW!

Ah cool, I had no idea there was an actual name for that kind of thing. I may be a little slow on the vocabulary, but I've been practicing!

I didn't know the term myself until a couple weeks ago, so don't feel too ashamed. You're human, so some level of shame is, of course, natural.

I host my photo's on www.Fotofight.com . Check out the contests. Both my wife and I are active members there.

I'm a moderator on that site and go by the handle "Magnus" there. I would have used Magnus here, except that it had already been taken.

Yeah, my camera does something like that. Usually whenever the hell it wants to. Sometimes the buttons like to remap themselves too. So I'll lose the Zoom function or be unable to shoot video on any given day.

I promise these aren't spiders (I share that hatred):

Camera doing what it pleases.

Camera doing what I want.

Big difference. I want a new camera! :/

BTW, your knowledge of plants has impressed me. If I don't see labels anywhere, my folders are full of just "pretty things."

Dhelor, you have some great shots on your deviant art page. Wahwah has some fantastic concert pictures also.

Cool to see some other goojers that are doing photography. I took it up as a hobby not long ago and I am still trying to learn how to use my equipment effectively. If you would like to see some of my efferts, you can view my photostream on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/srivera

Here are some of my pictures that I believe turned out ok, despite my not knowing what the hell I'm doing. As you can see, I'm a big fan of bokeh as well. You can click the pictures to see larger versions.

Well, I can't claim 100% that I don't use Google on occasion. Like the picture of the Queen Anne's Lace I have posted (titled Daucus Carota) - I had to double check to make sure that was what it actually was (it's a fairly common weed, but it's also similar in appearance to poison hemlock, the primary difference being the presence of fine hairs on the stem of the wild carrot as well as a difference in leaf shape).

I also had to double check the gardenia (there's one planted outside the local YMCA, but I haven't been there in ages) and the prickly pear (I've seen the leaves - i.e., the flat rounded segments - for sale in grocery stores [yes, they're edible, as are the fruits], but I had to confirm that there wasn't just a similar looking species).

Really, my father's ultimately to blame. All of the lily pictures, the water hyacinths, the grapes, and the papyrus in my gallery were all planted by him. I think he even planted the incense cedar, but that was ages ago (either before I was born or when I was but a wee bairn). He also planted our two sequioa (haven't posted a pic of them yet) and, I believe, the majority of the trees on our property. He doesn't merely have a green thumb, he's got a green fricking forearm. I really need to get some decent pictures of his bonsai (he's got some really nice ones) to post. It's a shame he's not in a business where that knowledge could truly be of use (he's a locksmith).

First off, thanks! I try my best, but really, I'm just an novice. I don't ever plan to become professional, but I might do stuff on the side, freelance stuff, and I also plan to help my sister out with her business once I'm able to get a Canon Rebel.

At the very least, it's something for me to do when I want to get away from the video games (blasphemy!) and I have no inspiration for writing (which, lately, has been quite often).

Those are some great photos, by the way. I especially love the first one of the waterdrops. I also like the one you have labelled "One of the flowers on the grounds of Oakland's Mormon Temple." Which, by the way, is a type of lily. Specifically, I believe it's Japanese golden-rayed lily (Lilium auratum).

Thank you for the praise, the waterdrop and macro photos get the most comments and views on my photostream. Also, thanks for identifying the flower!

You'll love the Canon Rebel once you get it, with a good DSLR I was amazed with the jump in image quality and ability to control the shot. The only things I dislike about the Rebel is the viewfinder is too small and dark, and it doesn't have spot metering.
