Games (or series) that everyone loves except you...
Saturday, August 4th, 2007 - 8:13am
Everyone's got one, I think. You know, games and franchises that review extremely well, are praised very highly on message boards and blogs and podcasts, but that you'll never pick up because something about it bothers you.
For me, it's the Resident Evil series. Something has just never clicked for me with RE. Maybe it was the horrific control in the first few games, or perhaps it was the storylines. In any case, they just don't do it for me. I will say that RE5 looks unbelievable...I just hope there's something in it for me.
So, what games or franchises don't do it for you?

Guitar Hero. That is all.
Cyrana Mage 72 ~ Artesia Druid 70
Cyranna Shaman 62 ~ Acereri - DK 61 ~ Artasian - Priest 59 ~ Lenna - Rogue 60
Grand Theft Auto

Anything that says Final Fantasy on it except for 7 and Tactics Advance.
MegaMan.

Final Fantasy, although it seems not many people like it here so far, Gran Turismo, SOCOM.
MaxShrek .. Do it first, do it yourself, and keep on doing it.

Anything Final Fantasy, minus tactics.
Also I loved GTA - Vice City at one point in my life, but I no longer get why people are excited over this series.

A second for Guitar Hero, though that's closely tied to an extreme hatred of cover songs and feeling like a complete doof standing in front of a TV with toy instrument in-hand.
Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

God of War - The protagonist is a misogynistic douche, the combat is mind-numbingly repetitive, and the "shock" factor of the game lasted all of about five minutes. The only thing I find worthwhile in the franchise is some of the awesome set-piece encounters. Otherwise it's a waste of my time and a boring drag.
Madden '0-whatever
Rainbow Six
Bejeweled (now, I LOVE Tetris Attack, but Bejeweled.. my lord, it's so SLOW and dull)
Halo - I can see why people like it, but I never got into the series.
Smash Bros. - For some it seems to be the holy grail, but it totally and utterly failed our party session test, both, the original and Melee.
World of Warcraft - I was one of like four in a company of 40 people, that had not subscribed at some point.
Elder Scrolls - The series always came across to me as generic and lifeless. I had high hopes for Oblivion, but it didn't click with me. The ES titles always seem ambitious in terms of scope, but forgettable in terms of story and characters.
Diablo and all its clones - And yeah, I'm always a bit puzzled about why Hellgate is getting that much hype.
Gran Turismo - I do like sims and dig games like GTR, Live for Speed, the old Papyrus sims and Geoff Crammond's F1 Grand Prix series. GT, however, never wowed me - no sim-ish enough due to weird collision models, lack of damage and the like, and not arcade-ish enough to pass as fun racer.
Counter Strike, any iteration.
Panem et circenses
"You really need to smoke a tree first to appreciate that one." - Sanjuro
Metal Gear Solid - The horrible camera system of the first game swore me off the entire series. Then of course there was the story and the whole "use the second controller here!" bit.
Halo - Okay, it's an FPS on a console, not the second coming.

Halo - I've never understood what was so great about it... maybe it's that I was playing solid FPSs on PC long before it came out. And, everyone talks about how great the story is... what story?
Gran Tourismo - I'm just not a gear-head.
Metal Gear Solid - I like to play my games, not watch them, thank you very much. MGS4 looks like it might be headed in the right direction, though.

Halo - I've enjoyed zombie skate, but the core gameplay doesn't do much for me.

"Lupus with a crowbar is the meaning of life itself." - Certis
Grand Theft Auto
Madden - I prefer Blitz and old school 2d madden or Tecmo Bowl
Grand Turismo
Baldur's Gate - I much prefered the Icewind Dale Series

Any Sports Title From EA.
Morrowind: I keep wanting to like it, but for some reason, it just leaves me cold.
Neverwinter Nights: Nice adaptation of the D&D rules, but it leaves me cold. The one redeeming thing about the series is that they let the modders at the engine, and some great stuff came out of that.
Splinter Cell: Other than Certis, does anyone really care what Sam Fisher does?
Racing Games: You would think I would like these. I love racing. I love to drive fast. I love cars. I love to game. Should be a perfect fit, right? I just can never seem to get into them.
Fallout - I want to like it, I really do, but it just doesn't grab me after repeated tries. Nonetheless I have hopes for Fallout 3.

Grand theft auto - after 3, the games are okay but nothing special.
World of Warcraft - does nothing for me.... similarly for most other MMOGs
Guitar Hero / rythm or timing games like Indigo Prophecy... just don't like them.
Unreal Tournament 200X - tried to like this but just couldn't make the transition from q3a gameplay.
and Resident evils - hated the static camera in the first one and never got into the series after that.

Ugh. Hard to find something that already hasn't been posted.
Metal Gear Solid is definitely at the top of my list. Virtually nothing about that series appeals to me.
Halo also, but almost any console fps could be there also.
Oh! Oh! I know:
Overlord. Hated the Demo. Awful controls + interface.
Company of Heroes. I don't hate it, but RTS games are just not really my thing, and the WWII setting is just...bleh.
