TV Suggestions Plz
Friday, August 3rd, 2007 - 8:17pm
I'm just about finished with Studio 60's flaggelated corpse and I don't think I'll be going back for anything other than a pity lay if another season rolls around. Can you people recommend me a recent TV show which is worth watching?
Prefereably one that doesn't have Lost or Heroes in the title...

Burn Notice.

Mad Men I have on the down low as I type this, the Sopranos endorsement just does it for me.
The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Robot Chicken I have sampled already and made my own decisions about. Edwin, from the list you provided is there a stand out show which you could recommend?
The rest is queued up and I appreciate the feedback. Many thankyous for the hours I am about to lose.

I really like Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs is engaging. The Kill Point is a pretty good drama that is only 3 episodes so far. Big Love is a nice show from HBO about polygamy. Flight of the Conchords is another HBO show that is pretty good. Check out the threads on them.

I'm about to go to bed but wow, what a decent turn out for a thread I posted three hours ago.
I feel like a trade is in order, and I offer up "The Thick of It" as the shining example of reasonably recent British comedy. Seriously, look it up, its a stellar programme if you're down with the english humour, and it's about to enter a second series.
I did a search for it on the forums and couldn't find a reference so hopefully its new to you lot. If not, I apologise for my backwards suggestion.
I just watched the first episode of Mad Men and bloody hell that was an interesting one. The painfully blatant closet homosexual, the *seriously* derogatory attitude towards women from all characters including the ladies themselves, and those hair cuts where they push the fringes back... I'm going to follow it and see where it goes. Cheers for the suggestion Warlock. It feels, in a sense, like a fifty year old prologue to "Thank You For Smoking," but I'll have to see how it plays out before I set that opinion in stone.

If you liked Saving Private Ryan at least a little bit, you need to see Band of Brothers.

All good suggestions so far. I'm really enjoying Dogfights on the History Channel. They interview pilots from various wars and show CGI of their, well, dogfights. Some very interesting stuff.
I'll just assume you're already watching Battlestar Galactica. You are, aren't you?
Dexter rocks. The first two episodes of season two are just as awesome as the ones from season 1.

I didn't even know the second season had started. That is awesome.
The Boondocks is the best cartoon series I've ever watched.
Come ON! I bet they sampled a Speak and Spell and just got his endorsement afterwards.

To my knowledge it starts September 30th. Can't wait, I love that show.

Kurrelgyre beat me to Jekyll; the first two episodes aired last night and were quite good. I'll add History Detectives on PBS and Human Weapon on the History Channel for things you can watch now. In upcoming shows Torchwood, the Doctor Who spin-off is coming to BBCA fairly soon, and to HDNET eventually. And if nothing else, there's always football season on the way.
Yep, it starts Sept 30th. The first two episodes of season 2 were "leaked" on the internets.

My wife has been hooked on Hex on BBCA for awhile now. Pretty cool, darker version of Charmed, it seems.

Speaking of BBCA, MI-5 is also a great spy show. My wife is amazed that they kill off anyone on the show.

Listen to this man, for he is wise. From the Earth to the Moon is another great HBO mini-series on DVD. And, of course, Firefly (can't believe nobody mentioned it yet
).
Others already mentioned but worth repeating:
The Wire
Battlestar Galactica
