Fatal Inertia Demo on Live
Thursday, August 2nd, 2007 - 1:10pm
According to a few news sites the demo is up on live for US and Japan.
It looks like a F-zero / Wipeout clone with weapons. I probably won't get to give this a try until tomorrow night but as always I'm interested in impressions.

Thanks for the heads up, will try it tonight. I like the sound of it. Impressions later.

This must only be in the US as I still don't have it available this morning.

It's pretty, for sure... but I wasn't too down with the controls, and with good reason. When the level is loading, they show you the control layout like any other game but they rotate pictures detailing the controls too fast for me to actually digest. It took me a few races to get the simple controls.
As far as the game itself goes... I dunno. It handles like Wipeout in a more open environment.
One of these days I'll finish a
Didn't the preview show some grappling gameplay element? If so, that doesn't come out in the demo. Pretty straightforward.

I really like the break/boost dynamic. That's ingenious. At some point I got tethered to something, but I don't know how. The demo map is way too short. I like it but I suck at it really bad.

Well I just got to try this out (it just showed up on Live for me yesterday for some reason) and I was pretty unimpressed. I had high hopes for this game as I've been itching for a new futuristic race combat game until the inevitable F-Zero Wii comes out but I was not blown away. The sounds were all muffled and very understated, the music was bland and generic and even once I could learn the controls from the explanation screen that stays up for all of 3 seconds, the combat just felt random and not at all tight. It felt more like pod racing. The game is pretty to be sure but the frame rate was terribly inconsistent (though I know many 360 games have had poor running demos and no problems with the retail product.) The game hasn't gone gold yet some hopefully they'll be able to tighten some things up. Barring really bad reviews, I'll definitely rent it and give it another shake but they'll have to be more to it than this.
