So this is supposedly shipping today. Anyone besides me getting it? The only review i've read so far was Gameinformer which gave it a 6/10 but marked it down for being too true to the rules and not making concessions to playing on a computer like other D&D games. Didn't seem like such a bad knock to me. Anyways i'm gonna be on the lookout for sure.

Let us know what you think.

I posted an impression of the Jeanne D'Arc demo... looks like August is going to be tacticalicious.

Edit:

GAMESTOP is saying this game isn't shipping until 8/14.

I'm very interested in this, pending reviews and word of mouth.

According to the internets, the shipping date got pushed back to 14Aug2007. I'll look at Best Buy when I go by tonight.

Stupid internets. I've been looking forward to this game.

Same for me. Then I realized I was contemplating spending $200 for a D&D game. Then I continued to try to rationalize it to myself... Slim and Lite PSP + D&D Tactics... hmmm.

You sir have a resolve of steel.

What are you doing here at GWJ? Do you enjoy having your resolve tested by the Enabler Squad?

As for the game, with so much other great stuff coming out (and Gitaroo Man Lives! dropping to $20 at Gamestop) I am definitely in wait and see mode. At least one of these tactics games is going to a gem and I will definitely be getting it.

MrDeVil909: I feel it necessary to point out that there are drug resistant strains of most STDs. Especially in developing nations.
Funkenpants: Great. Yet another area in which we're losing our lead to foreigners.

yup, I am getting it!

Furthermore, I went and got the three core books from amazon (in a slip case for >$60) because I was unfamiliar with 3.5 rules. Got hooked again in a big way, and my girlfriend actually likes it now!

How else was I going to argue with the game?

(Glad everyone else finally learned all you had to do was toss THAC0 and run the whole game like a bunch of saving throws and use the other dice for damage, and its easier to play, um, *drunk*)

I dont know if I really MISS 2nd Ed. per se... I just never PLAYED 3rd Ed, so for me AD&D is always going to have the "A" in front of it, is always going to have THAC0, and negative armor class

Definitely not. I've been left in the dust, like the old man who can't adapt to the new computer system at the office. I loved the AD&D rules. Feats? Bah. Give me THAC0, an armor class of -5 and set character classes - with dual and multi-classing primarily limit to non-human races - and I'm good to go.

Preach on brother Duffman! I liked second edition better as well, but what are you gonna do? 3rd edition seems to have homogenized the classes way too much by putting all of the second edition class abilities into feats. Hell while we're at it bring back the Cavalier from 1st edition!

I wouldn't say that I have a resolve of steel so much as a Budget of Superior Inflexibility (medium-grade wondrous item). I've been in credit card debt before, and have refused to do so again; I like having my only debts be my student loans and my car note (and that hopefully gone when I pay it off). Actually, let me rephrase that; I don't just like limiting my debt like that, I find that it makes life so much less stressful that I can't go back to the debt-riding ways I used to!

So when you're on a constricted budget, and debt isn't an option, you'd be surprised how easy it is to resist "fun" purchases and instead focus on what you really want to spend your discretionary income on. My game purchases are very carefully determined anymore.

That said, I do someday hope to pick up a PSP on the cheap, with some of the titles I'm really eager to play, such as this one.

The first game I preorder (paid in full) in almost two years (along with Forza 2) and it gets delayed three times since then. I cannot wait to get my hands on this game!

3 years?! Holy crap! I guess if I were Best Buy I'd take your money too. There's gotta be a fair chance many people will either forget or lose their receipt with the pre-order. Or move to another country. Or die/become incapacitated.

What do they give you for preordering three years in advance? Do you get interest on your investment?

(I kid, but really...I'm surprised.)

I preordered the game back in June of this year (paid in full with trade in credit). When I said "in almost two years" I meant that, before D&DT and Forza 2, it's been two years since I preordered another game paid in full.

I've never played AD&D, I never had a high enough level of "geek tolerance" (nor did I have a group of normal people interested in this geeky pursuit), but the idea of a video game adhering to the AD&D rules interests me.

I definitely want to hear impressions when people get their hands on this. I've been out of the PSP race for a while when I sold my crappy, dead-pixel-ridden PSP to get my DS Lite. I've been waiting for a PSP hardware revision, and the "PSP Lite" will be mine when it drops.

So the 14th is this coming week - anyone heard anything more? Any websites get hands-on with the game yet? Anyone buying it?

I'll need more info before purchasing - definitely not a release-day buy for me, especially with Jeanne D'Arc coming one week later. I'm starting to wonder if the lack of information is a sign of bad things. That said, I like the D&D thing, I like the Tactics thing, I'd like to like the D&D Tactics thing.

There are some impressions up at RPG Vault. Sounds like exactly what I was hoping for a portable version of the combat from Temple of Elemental Evil.

there's three reviews up on Metacritic... with a composite average of 70% -- both of the other two reviews are better than the first one (60%) from GameInformer.

Yeah I read the Gameinformer review and their gripe seemed to be that they didn't change the D&D rules enough for the translation to a computer, which sounds like a good thing to me.

well, EB Games/GS is offering an extra $10 in trade-in value when you trade in 2 PSP or 2 DS games. So I got $70 in store credit today. I went ahead and purchased a copy of Jeanne d'Arc, and with what was left, I put half toward this and spent the other half on a wii points card. So hopefully there will be some more reviews up in the next day or so and I can swing by and pick up my copy.
