Resident Evil 5 - Full Trailer
Only available in low rez right now, unfortunately. High rez will be posted as it becomes available.
Looks AWESOME. The short bits of gameplay look absolutely stunning. I was a little disappointed by the muddy facial textures in the first trailer, this one shows that the game is absolutely gorgeous.
I am very interested in the setting. First - I hope to Jeebus that this game doesn't get accused of racism. Second: Everything we've seen of the game takes place in blazing sunlight - AWESOME. I love the atmosphere, and it could be very innovative. Creepy horror that doesn't rely on darkness? I'm hopeful.
I'm becoming increasingly aware that an unmined setting is, by itself, enough to totally bias me in favor of a game. Assassin's Creed has crusades-era middle east, RE5 has modern day Africa. The thought of playing a game that's neither urban nor WWX-related is really exciting. ![]()

Is it just me, or does it look a little bit more like Dead Rising than other people expected?

Well, they're both zombie-based action games from Capcom. I'm sure they shared a lot of artists.

Looks to me like RE4, except daytime in Africa.

Africa is a vastly unmined subject for gaming, that I think companies may have strayed away from for fear of backlash. A Sierra Leone Civil War FPS might not fly so well.
It's unfortunate, but i'm sure this will get some flack for some imagined "racism". Black people acting like animals, whatever the reason? Some white guy arrives to save them all? It'll catch some flack, but not a ton, I think. Even though, the title might take a very Constant Gardener turn with Umbrella playing the part of Pharmaceutical company in Africa but that's pure speculation.[/Cleveland]
That said, cruel as this is to say, in a game about a deadly virus outbreak, i'm surprised it's taken this long to put it in Africa.
It does look a bit like RE4 in Africa though. I mean, RE4 was fantastic, i'm not going to argue that, but that looked very... same.

You can see it coming a mile away. I imagine it won't be as bad as I think. I don't remember anyone making a fuss about killing the Spanish in RE4. But hey, you never know.
So can someone tell me where this franchise is going? I'm starting to miss the good old fashion, slow walking, won't toss sh*t as you moaning zombies. Mostly because they're easier to kill I guess.
My husband just bought RE4 recently and RE still scares me to the point where I don't think I can play it. I need someone to hold my hand STAT. :/

See, I started to bite there, but then I remembered I've got me a new womanfolk(tm).
Seriously, girlfriends cut my quiver of jokes in half.

I'm not sure what your getting at. Are you referring to the level texturing in RE4? If so, I thought it was fairly repetitive but they changed it just enough to keep me going.

Damn, that just looks fantastic. More of the same is all I was asking for. This is pretty much what I was hoping they would make.

Yeah so it looks like they took the RE4 route of not using zombies but those alien organisms again. Not that that is a bad thing I loved RE4 but I kinda liked the original storyline involving umbrella and would like to see a game in that universe come out. If you look closely you can see that even in Africa thay have the chainsaw chicks with the potatoe sacks on their heads.
I think we can see that this game will definitely be amazing to look at...I don't know how I feel about the appearance of static shooting again but I guess its to be expected.

Aside from that, the game looks great and the only bad thing is that it won't be released until late 2008/early 2009.
Lag used to be a lot worse back in the day. Hell, it took Jesus 3 days to respawn.

Who's the woman at the end of the trailer, just before the Capcom logo?

Cynical Me says "TEH NOO ADA WANG ROFLOL".
Maybe the big boss, maybe a supporting character, I dunno. Can we just all agree that the "My eyes are closed... closed... closed.... ............. ........OH SNAP NOW THEY'RE OPEN" thing is no longer scary? Or even dramatic?

It looked good but what's the point of releasing a trailer for a game that's more than a year away?
Making these takes a lot of time and resources that should probably be better used for you know, making the game. Chances are the game will take place in Alaska by the time it comes out.

Well I don't know. It always intrigues me. Will the eyes be yellow with a red pupil, or maybe completely black, or maybe white but with no pupil... So much suspense!

The guy's lines also remind me of RE4. In other words, with writing and voice work that's just mediocre.

Well, just think back to the writing of the original RE with such classic lines as "Jill, here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you."

This loses it's effect when it's printed, but if you say it to yourself like they say it in the game it's hilarious.

What's static shooting?

Probably referring to the point, that the character doesn't seem to be able to move and shoot at the same time. Check the footage. You can run around while aiming, but not when you're firing your gun.
I'm somewhat torn after seeing this video. While the visuals look incredible, as you would expect considering how good RE4 looked on the GC and with the move to the next-gen systems, it does look like RE4 goes to Africa. Instead of Spanish people being turned, it's African people being turned. Maybe I'm being too skeptical - and I hope so - but I'm now a little nervous.
Who am I kidding, I have RE4 for the Wii on its way in the mail, and I played through the original multiple times for the GC. I'll probably buy RE5 for the 360 without giving it much more than a second thought.

I never played a RE game until just the other day when I got RE4 for the Wii. It was well done, but coming from PC gaming the gameplay seemed kind of old school with the weird camera movements, the inability to circle strafe, the need to switch to a screen to change weapons, and the lack of lots of save points and no difficulty adjustment.
Will these things change, or will they stick with their formula, is what I'd like to know.
The shooting mechanic in RE4 takes a little getting used to, especially if you try and think of it as a PC or Halo-style shooter. But, after you interalize it a bit you realize that it works in the context of the game and how the game is balanced and it develops its own pleasing tactical rythm even if you can't circle strafe.
On these terms, RE4 is actually the strongest shooter I've played in the last few years. I find it to be perfectly paced, and it does a really good job of balancing variety and repitition, if that makes any sense.
I would imagine they'll stick to the formula in RE5.

Well said psu_13, I'm with you on that one. The fact that you had to stop to shoot added a level of stress and strategy that was very refreshing to me after playing so many shooters. It's funny because I really didn't see that as "old school".
I hope they stick to the formula.

Yeah, I agree with that. Once I began to adapt to the playing style it got more enjoyable. I wouldn't want all shooters to be like it, but it was an interesting change of pace for me.
I was just sorry I had to stop playing it halfway through. I'm not real good with games, and RE's "one size fits all" approach to difficulty and save points left me in a spot where I couldn't continue.
Perhaps it's Claire Redfield?
