Harvey Birdman preview

Quote:
I don't want to spoil the outcome of the trial, but suffice to say it captured the series' trademark humor. Even this case had a Capcom cameo--Street Fighter 2's red-blooded all-American, Guile. Birdman demonstrates what he believes to be a fake lighter by setting Guile's hair ablaze. Ever the badass, Guile, with a fawning female in tow, allows his hair to burn. No time for pain when you've got M. Bison to deal with.
Maybe they should subtitle this: Capcom vs. Hanna-Barbera?

Suddenly I'm picturing an encounter between Dhalsim and Hajji from Johnny Quest. Don't ask me why.

New-ish trailer that flew in under the radar. Looks like Stephen Colbert's not involved.

Yeah, this sounds like a cheap attempt to cash in on Phoenix Wright.

If it's half as funny as the cartoon and a blatant rip-off of Phoenix Wright, this will be an awesome game.
Birdman! Right there! No, there! No, there!

Is it a rip off when the same company makes both games? Personally from what I saw on game trailers and the case of "Nailgun the duck"...well lets say my co-workers were not too happy at me laughing and crying at my desk at the same time.....loudly.

IGN posted 5 movies today.

it's a little hard to see the actual gameplay, since most of these videos show the animated cut-scenes... but this looks pretty cool for fans of the series.
I wish Phoenix Wright was this animated in his games...
edit:
from watching all the videos, you can kind of piece together the gameplay somewhat. Kind of a bummer than Stephen Colbert didn't do voicework for the game... everyone else seems to be from the show, however.

if you watch the "birdman wins" video, I'm pretty sure the credits said "Phil."

I just checked, it does say "Phil".

regardless, this game looks kind of promising. PW gameplay, wacky American Adult Swim humor. Birdman was always my fave AS show... might have to check this out after all.

Two reviews so far, neither of which is exactly glowing.
Biggest knock seems to be that the game is just too easy.

You kind of get that from the trailers. Even if you pick the stupidest sounding answers, Harvey somehow comes out ahead.

Agreed, I think it looks really good and I really look forward to playing it but yeah that's sounding like an issue though it looks good enough I will definitely play it though.

IGN said it best.
Yea thats about all I want. It doesn't have to be difficult or an opus. I just want to be entertained for an hour or two.

I balked at purchasing after reading all the negative reviews. Unless some goodjer gets on here and says it's the cat's meow, I think I'll just sadly wait till Ace Attorney 4.

I think I am going to take one for the team on this one. I will pick it up this evening after the gym. I will try to have something posted late tonight.

I realize that I am a bit of an unknown around here. So my opinion carries less weight. However here are my thoughts on the game.
Just finished the first two cases. So far the game is easy. So easy it makes it less of a game and more interactive experience. Playing the game really is like watching the show and pressing a button every now and then. However I have enjoyed my time with it thus far. If you enjoyed the show, don't mind the simplicity, and would be willing to put up with what seems will be a short game.... Well then my friend grab yourself a copy.
Xbox live/PSN Chrometech
I agree that the game is fun for fans of the show. Even so, it's probably a solid rental. Not sure it's worth full price.
I've played through the first 3 cases so far, and while most of them are pretty straightforward, I DID lose all of my crests on a case... so either I suck more than most people at playing this game, or it's not a TOTAL cakewalk (just a partial one...).
Since this is published by Capcom, they have one Street Fighter II character hidden somewhere in each case. Finding them unlocks a hidden video... it's too bad most of the videos are kind of lame, but it DOES give you an excuse to go back and replay a case if you missed them.
My only knock against the game is that the save system is kind of wonky. The game DOES give you a few save points during the case, and you can hit Start and choose to save any time you're in the "move/talk/examine/present" segments. BUT. For some reason, the game doesn't save your progress at the end of a case... it saves it just BEFORE the end of the case, before the typical "denouement" scene in Harvey's office with all the S&S crew. What that means is that after you beat a case, you can't just QUIT... you have to either play into the NEXT case long enough to save, or else restart the game next time with the ending of the last case. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Case #4 is the funniest so far... good stuff.
I wonder why they didn't go for the "objection!" options of PHOENIX WRIGHT here... they use almost every other aspect of the PW games, for the most part.
Oh, and the save system still sucks.
