I know there is a great deal of hater-aid going around.. I have contributed myself.... But since its 100 dollar drop and the fact I dont have to pay tax... its becoming more attractive to buy. What's your opinion? What good games are out there for the PS3?

If you already have a 360 and/or a PS2 then I'd pretty much answer "none". I've bought mine two days ago and just tried demos for Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of man, which are pretty much the only worthy exclusives, and while both are far from bad, they're also far from great.

There are a few good looking exclusives coming though, and Blu-Ray movies are a pretty nice upgrade if you have the proper display.

I'd say if you can afford it without cutting into your rent, by all means - it's a great machine with great potential and a few solid titles, and even more on the way. Would I choose it over a 360? No. Do I feel it has more graphical potential than the 360? Yes.

If even one inbound exclusive makes you wipe a tiny bit of drool from the corner of your mouth, you know what to do. This holiday season is going to make it even more attractive. Don't go to it expecting the full meal deal, go in expecting a smattering of very cool exclusives running on a pretty advanced piece of hardware.

Now that I've bought the damn thing I wouldn't mind it but I really don't see what makes you feel this way though. Multiplatform games perform best on 360 and I haven't seen anything in the upcoming games that couldn't be done on the 360.

I think Consolevania put it best...

IF you have the money...
IF you own an HDTV...
IF you already have an Xbox 360...
... then you might consider getting a PS3.

The good games for the PS3 are limited now, but much stronger very soon.

Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Unreal Tournament III, Ratchet & Clank Future, WipeOut HD, SOCOM: Confrontation, and Everyday Shooter are games out this fall that I will be spending plenty of time with on my PS3.

There's also a beta for LittleBigPlanet coming this fall, which will be a nice treat leading up to the game's full release in early 08.

Meh, I honestly think the PS3 will have great games a couple of years from now. I sure will get one for Rock Band. I'm sure there's a couple of downloadable games that could be worth it.

But right now, I think it's just an expensive doorstop. If you honestly don't mind dropping the 600 bucks, sure, go for it.

The 360 is getting Rock Band too. Why would you spend more to get a PS3 if you're that cold on it?

Right now I do have a hd tv and 360. I sort of torn though... i dished out for the hd drive and regret it now. There hasn't been as many releases for it like the blue-ray... So in a way I would be covered if i did pick up the PS3. I hear good things about resistance. Just wanted to know if there are any other good titles out for it

One reason to buy now: the 80gb version removes the hardware backward compatibility, so if you want to be able to play PS1 and PS2 games well, you'll want to buy a 60gb version.

Well, there's Calling All Cars, which is a fun but brief experience.

Super Stardust HD is a hit with the Geometry Wars crowd. It's not my cup of tea, but playing it, I can recognize that it's a very good game in that genre, and should appeal to people that really jump on twin-stick shooters.

Other than that, my PS3 has been a PS2 game upscaling machine. That will probably continue to be the case until late next month, when Warhawk goes live.

I had reasonable hopes for this one too and maybe it's because I'm tired, but I was extremely underwhelmed by the demo. AI is basically non-existent and the visuals are pretty dull. The fact that you couldn't adjust sensitivity and fire with the god damn triggers didn't help either. On the upside, the weapons look pretty creative.

This isn't probably the best place to ask this question.

Ultimately, like any console, it comes down to games that exist and games that WILL exist. These are the games that earned a 75% or higher from metacritic.

I'm still confused why everyone is riding the WAHmbulance about PS3 software back-compat. If they can get damn near every PS1 game to run super-smooth on PSP, why the hell do you doubt they'd be able to get PS2 support through the roof within the time you'd actually stroll down memory lane to play 'classics'? Buying a PS3 now just for backwards compatibility is silly. Why would you buy a $500 new game system to play games on a system you most likely already own? Wait for a price drop, wait for games you actually want to play, wait to get an HDTV, by the time any of those happen you'll be able to play whatever you'd like.

I think if consider yourself a hardcore gamer, it, at some point, will become inevitable to get a PS3. Just look at Sony exclusives in the past generation, titles like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War I&II, Jak & Dexter, Ratchet & Clank. However, IMO, there won't be enough software around to justify the purchase before Q2 or Q3 2008. And by then the system may be available for $400.

I wouldnt buy a 60GB PS3 for BC... I'd buy a PS2 and play them on an SD screen if thats the most important thing for you.

But Spunior is right.. zero reason to buy one now.. wait until Sony actually releases those exclusive titles.. and see what the price is at that point.

You think there will be another price drop before Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted come out? I doubt it. There's a ton of PS2 classics I never had the chance to play and I had been toying with the idea of buying a PS2 for a while now. I finally picked up the PS3 instead because of the upscaling/smoothing of the BC games, the upcoming exclusives, the fact that by the look of things Blu-Ray is gonna win over HD-DVD and especially because they dropped the price $150 CDN.

This is definitely NOT a must-have piece of electronics but I wouldn't say there is zero reason to get one either though.

I wouldn't be shocked if many of the supposed Q4 2007 titles like Drake's Fortune, Ratchet & Clank, and UT3 slip to next year.

We're more than halfway through the year, the PS3 is an ultra-complex platform that's causing development times to drag on and on, there's no marketing push yet for hugely expensive titles from well-known developers, and Sony executives are already downplaying the importance of hitting the holiday release window. These are all signals that many of the big exclusives won't be making it on time. I wouldn't depend on the system having a significant number of them until Q1 '08 at the earliest, so, unless 100% BC is a huge priority for you, there's little reason to rush out and pick one up yet. There'll almost certainly be a comparable PS3 out at $499 or less by the time there's more than a tiny handful of decent exclusives.

Oh, and Little Big Planet is looking an awful lot like a sandbox game with which most people will spend an hour with playing through the pre-made levels, noodle around a bit with the editor and never pick up again. There, I said it.

Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

I love those demoralizing "inspirational" pics

It's a 100% completely unscientific hunch in the back of my brain that senses the PS3 has a little more room to throw the polys around. After playing Motorstorm and reminding myself it's a first-gen PS3 game, I'm pretty impressed.

And I know you don't dig it too much, but I love it. What I thought was going to be just a silly and kinda lame racing game turned out to be the most fun I've had since Burnout 2. It's not the reason to buy the system, but it definitely made it worth my while.

I downloaded fLOW, Super Stardust and Calling all Cars (finally!) last night, and those games are all super slick as well.

Multiplatform? 360 all the way baby. Now that it's a base system for devs to port from now, going PS3 doesn't make much sense unless you really love the controller (blarf) and don't care about achievements.

Yeah the PS3 controller sucks. At least for my man sized paws.

Hey jag, what's up?

The only reason I've thought about a PS3 is for Blu-Ray. Warhawk looks very cool, for some day in the future, but who knows when? The price drop helps, but I'm getting a new TV before I get a PS3. And I might decide that I need a new laptop first...

Oh. God. No. I absolutely hate the Tilt/Sixaxis/WhateverTheEff control scheme. It's just horrible. I'm sure it will get a little tighter or have some minor uses, but as a main control scheme it's just terrible.

I agree, at least XBL gets that right. I would have liked to have tried them before dropping the $11, so I had to take a plunge based on word of mouth.

Quick and dirty "having spent 5 minutes playing each title review"

Calling All Cars - Lots of fun, super slick graphics, worth the purchase. Party game with friends.
fLOW - If you liked Electroplankton or Yanni, get it. Not really a game, but very soothing.
SuperStardust - Doesn't seem as brutally unforgiving as Geometry Wars but is just as slick and gorgeous.

I'm considering the $20 Tekken game.. but.. I suck terribly at fighting games.

I've said my view in a few other threads, and others have summed it up here, so I'll keep it brief.

First, consider this:

*Legion* wrote:
I think Consolevania put it best...

IF you have the money...
IF you own an HDTV...
IF you already have an Xbox 360...
... then you might consider getting a PS3.

So if by those criteria you should be considering a PS3, I will now give you three criteria to help you decide if you should buy one now rather than six months down the road or something.

1. Do you have an HDTV that can take advantage of Bluray video and/or upscaled DVD video? That is, does it have HDMI and is it at least 40" or larger?
2. Does PS2 backwards compatibility matter to you? If you already have a PS2 and have a nice SDTV that you don't mind playing on, maybe not, but if that nice HDTV is the only thing you game on then you might.
3. Are there any games that come out between now and December (ie, Lair, Little Big Planet, etc) that you are interested in?

If those things hold true for you, then personally I would recommend going and hunting down a $500 60GB model. If not, I recommend waiting a bit longer (ie, until the 80GB model is $500 or less).

As for the games that are already out, the good stuff is almost all downloadable for now. I was underwhelmed by Resistance, and didn't feel compelled to complete it. I liked the Motorstorm demo, but I'm still waiting for Gamefly to get their act together and ship me a rental. As for Ninja Gaiden Sigma, I haven't yet had a chance to play it either (other than the demo), but if you have never played either of the Xbox versions I would definitely recommend that as a purchase.

What is the damn deal with Ninja Gaiden, anyway? They keep releasing the same game over and over? I know that Metal Gear and Resident Evil have done this kind of thing in the past, but sooner or later they put out a new game in the series.

Well, Ninja Gaiden Black was the first/final re- release of Ninja Gaiden that was done by Itagaki-san. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was project that was entrusted to one of the new comers to Team Ninja team... who in turn asked Itagaki-san if can try to expand the audience for NG series. So with that Sigma is final for NG 1 release. As for new, Itagaki-san mentioned that he is either will be starting or already started the development of Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox 360.
With that said, every release of Ninja Gaiden brings new tweaks and improvement to the core game. Not to mention new content, this seems minor at hand... but yet adds to the game.

-edit-

Although, there is also Ninja Gaiden for DS... I have no idea what is that about.

I guess Motorstorm and Resistance must suffer from some weird demo representation. I thought Motorstorm was ok until I tried the full game, and I loved it. I still haven't picked up Resistance for the same reason (demo didn't do it really) but I keep hearing too it gets better. So I will probably go out and get it at some point.

I think some people said the same thing about the Condemned demo for the 360 among others too, not the best demo, but a great game when fully fleshed out. Shrug.
