Lots of stuff going on!

Beta started to open up slowly. Various contests going around on Relic news, Bloggo, for keys into the beta.

Gametrailers has this montage of gameplay footage showing off all new units.

So far I only recognized the Priest.

Alrighty. I'll just stick with the Jagdpanther then. It's a freakin 88 mounted on a Panther with improved armor.

Yes please.

I want a Japanese campaign very badly. CoH2 is my hope.

I just want the Indian/Asian areas in a WW2 game for once in a game that I would like.

Yea it would be nice to see the British fighting the Japanese for a change. Also it would be nice to see some African WWII campaigns which is also sorely neglected.

Stalingrad fits the CoH gameplay style so perfectly it would make an obvious choice for a future add on.

That's what I want. Eastern front stuff would be awesome. The tank engagements were huge too.

Just so sick of capping nazi ass. Yelling 'Eat Detroit steel, ya kraut mofo' at the screen has lost all it's charm on me.

Yes, changing the racial epithet in that sentence will make it a completely different game.

Well, it'd change more than just the epithet. I could now say "The .303 round is far more suited to the foreign constitution, as is green tea, sir. Regards from Her Majesty and the lads in Manchester!'

That's a whole new gaming experience.

I'll certainly be picking this up when it drops. I only put about 1/16th the amount of time into Company of Heroes compared to Dark Crusade, but the former was a solid game from start to finish. I <3 Relic.

Off topic: Did they ever announce what it was that was suggested at the end of Dark Crusade? You finish the single player campaign and the screen fades out and says 2007. Did anyone hear anything on what that was for afterwards?

I found COH much more enjoyable then the Dawn of War Series because of the awesome, very scenic, maps with destructible environments. It made it all that much more enjoyable when you tested new tactics. It would be awesome if DOW embraced this revamped level editor with some havoc physics mixed in.

I cannot wait for this to drop into stores so that I can swoop in and pick it up. I read somewhere, sorry for the lack of a link, that Relic was working in beta to adjust the King Tiger so that it was play-balanced... to me, this would have been easy had they decided not to go British, but Russian instead. Heeellllllooooo KV and IKV!

Play balance a King Tiger? I'd say more air support and overwhelming numbers ought to do the job!

Yeah, but that's not overly practical in a RTS game either, unfortunately. Game Designers tend to make 'opposing' units.

No, but Jerry never had to concern himself with whiners and babies who demand that the Sherman be able to stand more than one crack from an 88.

I'll leave the whiners and babies to themselves.

As in the time of Gary Gygax splitting from the gaming club at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, there are two sides to this room. On one side, "wizards" throw "fireballs" with the same rule sets as medieval catapaults. On the other side, bearded grognards scoff fro behind their Napoleonic miniatures, content in their historical accuracy and thus superior knowledge of history and tactics.

I'ma go grow a beard now.

Unfortunately, games don't allow for truly 'creative' tactics that could go beyond the scope of the game -- often, its seen as more of an exploit of programming unfortunately or of the rules if you're tabletoppin' it.

There's nothing like when the Vikings under King Harald, "...through ingenuity, he and his men were able to besiege and defeat a number of castles. A contemporary source reports such tactics as attaching burning resin to birds, setting the castle ablaze, and feigning reluctance to fight, only to launch an attack at the most advantageous moment."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Hardr%C3%A5de

Or when the Desert Fox decided to fight the British in North Africa with fake armies and cardboard cutouts -- can you just see that ability in one of the command tracks in CoH?!

Coordination between team mates is key. Taking some M10's and running circles around the tiger while some airborne AT guns land out of sight of the tiger.
