You know what sucks? Being the only one in the neighborhood with a turret. Especially when huge, indestructible circles start falling from the sky. Forget Missile Command-era tech, because old-school explosive rocketry won't cut it with this stuff. You've gotta fight circles with circles.

Red has you defending your tiny turret from a ceaseless barrage of circular meteorites. What makes it different from its arcade predecessors is a dose of understated style and a simple physics simulation that has you deflecting the deadly circles instead of destroying them. Your turret fires streams of tiny pellets, but can also sling hard-hitting supersized projectiles. At first it's a simple matter of keeping your eye on the skyline and not overusing your ammo, which recharges over time. Later on you'll have to start carefully considering angles of deflection. You'll also discover a few powerups, including ancillary turrets, tougher projectiles, and an essential shield.

Red's a simple game, but scores high in terms of polish and execution. A cool soundtrack, intuitive controls, and some nice animation details help round out the experience. If you like Red, you might also want to check out its slightly more original, click-happy cousin, Orange.
