I guess to coincide with the end of the conference they just posted up the Blue Dragon and NCAA '08 demos on the live marketplace.

Go grab em.

Or don't.

You know, whatever.

My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle.

Ok, an odd thing: there's also an E3 2007 "video" for Too Human that clocks in at 400+ MB. You can download it, but it's got the "lock" symbol on it and it's not viewable. Strange.

So... Blue Dragon.

I had a few things to say about it. Then I encountered an enemy that pretty much destroyed my thoughts.

Forget it. I'm going to bed now. I failed at my first attempt so I'll try to finish the demo tomorrow.

Somehow I doubt it.

I managed to snag it this morning, and played about 30 minutes of one of the included dungeons. Seems like a fairly standard turn-based JRPG with reasonably bad voice acting, and Toriyama art style characters. I'll give it some extra time later tonight, but so far, it hasn't 'wowed' me.

So was it an accident that it went up? Or was it a limited time thing?

The demo was originally going to be released on July 26... and I was kind of shocked to see it online.

With that said.... Major Nelson posted as available demos. If you look at xLive Marketplace, it list it as one of the E3 available content. It seems like it's really unlikely, that this release was a mistake.

I got the NCAA 08 demo and I really liked the feel....except for the constant stuttering when the hard drive reads data at certain points. I hope the real thing will be smoother.

I just finished the first dungeon in the demo.

For anyone who's watched DBZ, you should know immediate how the characters look. They even have the classic DBZ constipation look while charging attacks. The voice acting isn't terrible but not awesome either. To be honest, it's still better than I expected. The game itself looks great. The music sounds good so far but I've only heard about 4 songs. The boss battle theme made me laugh the first time I heard it because it's a Japanese guy singing in Engrish. That's a hit or miss right there.

The characters don't attack the enemies; their shadows do. No random battles but it doesn't make it any better that enemies fall from the skies right on top of you. As long as you're quick you can avoid some fights. The battles are turned-based but there are a few things that make it interesting. Your attacks can be charged. There's a bar and pictures of your party and enemies show when they will take their turn. The amount of time you charge your attack determines what order everyone takes their turns in. If you need to heal immediately you charge up to the point before the enemy takes a turn. If you want a super charged attack, you can charge past the enemy's turn letting them go first but hitting them much harder. Works the other way around too.

There's not much else to be said. You'll just have to try it. I'm definitely picking this game up when it launches.

Sounds like I'll just delete the auto-download, then. I never was a DBZ fan. Can someone help me understand the show's appeal, or sell me on this title?

Umm you kinda took my whole post out of context. I'm not a DBZ fan either. Have you ever heard of Chrono Trigger? Akira Toriyama's artwork is all over that game too. I guess I should've been clearer when I said "sound like." The voice acting was expected but none of them sound like Goku or Piccolo.

Blue Dragon's designers include:

Hironobu Sakaguchi : Final Fantasy Dude Who Wrote Story and Supervised
Akira Toriyama : Artwork Guy
Nobuo Uematsu : Final Fantasy Music Maker

None of that equals DBZ. If it did I would've deleted it at 2am this morning after playing for an hour.

OK, I just was kind of psyched for the game and then read "DBZ." I'll go backed to "mildly aroused."

I dont know, ill have to give this another look. After having a giant white tiger thing jump down on my party, then magically morph into two giant white tiger things. Then they had like 4 attacks each before i had a turn and killed 2 of my members, i turned it off.

I sort of want to wait and watch that bomb go off around her neck.

I'm sorry if I destroyed your excitement. Toriyama is the creator of DBZ but he only drew the characters and enemies in Blue Dragon. He didn't write the story. Here's more info.

I guess you could end up hating the game if you truly despise Toriyama's art style. Me? I'm trying to figure out what possessed him to make a bunch of monsters based off poo... :/

That happened a lot during the boss battles on the first stage. Very unpleasent but NOTHING like what just freakin happened to me five seconds ago in the forest area. I ran into a serpent miniboss and it's first move petrified my entire party. Game over. WTF?! I guess I have to find something.

Toriyama is also behind the look and character designs of the Dragon Quest series, words - and that alone has him high up my list.

That said, I think I'm done with JRPGs. I never finished FFX, and despite DQ8's fantastically charming art and voice acting, I didn't finish it, either. There is so much more available in a combat system than what those games offer - particularly in Western games, but also in Eastern games like all the Tactics series.

EDIT: I meant DQ8.

I played Blue Dragon for about 10 minutes before I just got sick of it (and I didn't even bother with the long boring tutorials for more than 1 minute). I don't know what people are raving about. The "updated" art looks worse than Dragon Quest, which was cartoony and beautiful. Also, fun. I loved the hell out of Dragon Quest, but there was nothing that grabbed my interest in Blue Dragon except for the pirate chick's boobs.

Have you played WoW? The combat system is pretty deep. But the real point of WoW is to play with other people, at least for me. Combat with a group in a dungeon is usually not dull, at least for me.

Probably you didn't want a serious answer. ninja
