Cyber Nations
Remember NationStates? A fun diversion, but it ultimately felt a bit hollow. After a while, you just got the same policy questions repeated.
Cyber Nations was recently discussed in an Escapist interview, so I'm a little surprised I haven't seen any mention of it here (it's possible I just missed it, though a search turned up nothing).
So what is it? A web-based nation building sim. Here's a quote from their site:
Welcome to Cyber Nations, a nation simulation game. Create a nation anywhere in the world and decide how you will rule your people by choosing a government type, a national religion, ethnicity, tax rate, currency type, and more in this new geo-political, nation, and government simulator. Build your empire by purchasing infrastructure to support your citizens, land to expand your borders, technology to increase your nation's effectiveness, and national improvements to build your nation according to your choosing.Declare war on others and purchase from a wide variety of military options including soldiers and tanks used to defend against and attack your enemies, cruise missiles to bomb their cities, and nuclear weapons to bring wrath upon those who dare cross you. View your nation on real world maps and watch as your borders expand (or recede) over time. Communicate with other nations through private internal messages or discuss and debate issues in the Cyber Nations Forums. Send foreign aid packages and trade with other nations to grow your nation and improve your status in the Cyber Nations world.
I started a nation 2 days ago. There's definitely a bigger focus here on details as opposed to NationStates' root of policy. In CN, when you have a good economy, you'll actually earn money that can be used to buy things. There's real interaction between nations, including trade agreements, alliances, and warfare.
If anyone is interested, my nation is Qstonia and I'm in the Blue nation team. Our alliance is called "The Goodjer Alliance". If it doesn't show up in the alliance drop down list when you create or edit your nation, choose "Specify Other" and type in "The Goodjer Alliance" by hand.
Here is a spreadsheet detailing the resources available to members of the Goodjer Alliance.
Edit: Link added to assuage Lobster's terrible anger. Added alliance info.

NationStates was fun for a while. It certainly kept me from being bored when I was a desk-bound security guard.
I have hereby founded the great nation of Militiagan!

I never played Nation States, but I'll give this a shot. I certainly have the time.
The Kalmar Union has been founded. I'll see what I can do about making it not collapse.
EDIT: Blue Nation. Should we form a Goodjer Alliance?

My friends, you are all welcome to join The Goodjer Alliance. I can't guarantee you $200,000 or protect you from warring neighbor states, but I can give you finger -> butt, and that's a gaddamn guarantee.

Guys, it might be helpful from a trade perspective to post what your nation's local resources are.
Qstonia's resources are: pigs and water
My trade agreements are pretty full up, but I'm not above canceling one or two if a fellow Goodjer Alliance member needs a leg up.

The predominantly Scandinavian Anodynia controls 1/4 a square mile of Compton, and has gems and rubber.
Some things to keep in mind: at the start, you can only have 4 active trade agreements, I believe, and you don't gain benefits from importing the same resource from 2 different places.
Focus on infrastructure primarily, some on military and land. I started out Peaceful, because I don't know how bloodthirsty the other players are. I figure this'll give me a chance to build up some before the asshats invade.

I'm going to sit on my Uranium for Goodjer use only, so anyone's welcome to message for a trade agreement.

Yeah, people are fickle. Just give em what they want and they work harder.
I had Republic and Mixed religion, they decided they wanted a Transitional government and Christianity. (Who the heck wants a transitional government?)
Keep in mind, government types do give different bonuses to things. There's a list somewhere in their forums.
