Warhammer 40K: Squad Command
What the hell, nobody talking about this yet? Coming to DS & PSP. (Screenies inclusive.)
Gamers play as the elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and strive to combat the encroaching evil of the ruthless and daemonic influenced Chaos Space Marines through 13 cinematically-tied missions. With a robust multiplayer mode featuring 9 unique missions, gamers will team up and go head-to-head with other gamers worldwide as either the Imperium of Man or Chaos Space Marines, ensuring hours of unique replayability.Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command will also fully utilize all the portable functionality of the PSP, bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to life on handheld.
* Compelling single player game consisting of 13 unique missions
* 9 unique multiplayer maps for Local or Global games, with small, medium and large map variants to cater for games from 2 to 8 players
* Fully destructible, real time 3D battlefields mean that no two games will be the same
* Pick from two Space Marine chapters or two Chaos Space Marine Legions to play as in Multiplayer games, in battles between Imperium vs. Imperium, Forces of Chaos vs. Forces of Chaos, or Imperium vs. Forces of Chaos
* Over 20 ranged and close combat weapons taken directly from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, including the Bolter, Plasma Gun, Chainsword and Power Fist
Considering the title, I guess this one will be more small scale compared to the Dawn of War games. But I'm in for some squad action as well!

Apparantly this is being made by the guys (Finnish developer Red Lynx) who did that N-Gage WW2 strategy game "Pathway to Glory", which by all accounts was a great game.

There, I fixed it. Now hurry up and... uh... be excited!

Oooh and it's turn-based. I might be able to rope my wife into the 40K universe yet.

Looks pretty, let's hope it's more "Dawn of War" than "Fire Warrior" quality wise.
If so, chalk me up as ready to pay!

Turn based? Ah crap, I need to get me a PSP.

I'm not so sure it is turn-based. Looks real-time to me.

ah, I see that now. Hmm. Instant purchase for me if it is turn based...

This could be my first "Buy for DS or PSP?" decision game. 2007 though? This appeared out of the blue, and may have to be put on hold until other strategy games are beaten first.
I've never played any Warhammer games, but I've eyed the franchise from the other side of my local game store for years. Count me as hoping it's turn-based as well. I'm pretty bad at RTS games, though I still enjoy one every few years. Currently that's Company of Heroes. I do much better with turn-based games where I can agonize over the details before committing. On top of that I don't not sure how well handheld consoles would do with RTS controls. Or any console - how was C&C3 for 360 received?

My pants are haunted for this game. Warhammer 40k? Turn-based? Handheld?
I'll be in my bunk.

Man... This could sell me a DS.

Yes! Yes yes yes!

Yeah, that could be a toughie.
Imho,
DS = interface
PSP = graphics

Yeah see.. the progression for me on this one went like this:
1) A new Warhammer game? Cool!
2) Turn based combat? That's cool too.
3) Oh.. it's on the DS and PSP.
4) *sigh*
And that's about where it stopped.

Hmm... You know, I've been looking for an excuse to get a DS. Anyone play Chaos Gate, or have I asked already?
Why not triple develop titles like this for XBL download?

I own Chaos Gate, but I was under the impression that it wouldn't run under XP. Am I wrong in this assumption? I would enjoy playing it while I wait for this little piece of electric sunshine.

I just love that companies are finally embracing strategy games on the portable systems. There hasn't been much to play so far but the future is looking really bright.
I would buy this on the DS (b/c I don't own a PSP) but I'm hoping its screen resolution doesn't make it look like a pixel mosaic. There doesn't seem to be any DS screens released yet.
P.S. Anno 1701 looks like it will be a solid game to hold us strategy nuts over for the summer. I have never played it but the review makes me want to.

I sa-huck at RTSs, but for your future buying reference, the original Dawn of War did not make me say many bad words. Classy game and highly cool.
Yeah, Puzzle Quest was spur #1. Might have to get a damned DS once I can afford it.
Chaos Gate is one of my favorites. Damned shame they never released the patch to make vehicles work.
RIP ChronicNecrosis
Agreed. I got to that first mission with the Rhino, like 50 hours of play into the game, and the damned thing just rolled into a mountain, got stuck, and blew up. Then, I tried a skirmish game, added a hover-tank thing (curses, the name leaves me) and it did, literally, nothing.

I mentioned this in another thread a long time ago, but during our courtship my wife wooed me by painting a genestealer mini. Talk about hot.

You're all missing the point: Ultramarines? Laaaame. Can't the Tyranids get a move on and convert the rest of those blue little goody two-shoes into biomass?
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.
I agree that the DS and portables in general are great for turn-based games. I'm not too worried about graphics; I thought Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was beautiful on the GBA.

Holy crap! That trailer was awesome. It was only PSP footage so it's still up in the air how it will look on the DS. Please be good!
