WoW: MC & Ony Attunement Interest
Monday, June 18th, 2007 - 6:46pm
Troll was waxing nostalgic about doing a run on Ony, which led to me realizing that I never finished my MC attunement and dropped off before getting my Ony attunement.
Are there any other people who would like to get together and do a quick MC attunement, followed by escorting Jail Break toward the Ony key? Trollslayer has offered to assist if we set up a time/place.
I'd like to see Ony and MC at least once. Any other takers?

I hate to be the negative Nancy on this, but good luck with that. Most folks who would want to raid anything have probably run MC and Ony into the dirt.
That said, I've always enjoyed them both, but I'm not alliance or on Blackhand, sadly.

Ah, the joys of a casual guild. We have plenty in BlackHand Alliance who want to see the Old World raids, but missed them (largely because, before the expansion, we had to rely on sister guilds to have the right number/mix of toons for a raid.)
Since entering the Outlands, we have grown enough to (if we can herd the cats thru attunement) raid MC, Ony, and AQ-20.
RedJen - I talked to Dhalvid last night, and he wants to start the attunement too. You can expect him to send you a /tell in-game asking for advice on how to procede (one cat added to the herd).

I think it's an interesting idea, especially for those of us that were in the 50-60 range or new 60's when BC came out. I ran MC a couple times with Icon, but I'm still not Ony attuned.
I'm not sure about MC though... it's cool to finally step in there, but it'd take a lot of time/effort for us to get to and down Rags. We could probably help gear up some of the new 60's, but I'm not sure how worthwhile it would be given that the drops are so random, and most of us wouldn't need them.
I got Jut and Dhalvid to the crumpled note part of Ony attunement last night, and I'm hoping to catch them up to me (Jail Break) tonight. I could have sworn I had completed it, but I guess I just gave up (I attempted it quite a few times). I can clear that part of BRD solo, so I don't think I'll fail this time as long as I have a little help.
I think Ony is a lot more realistic, we've just got to get people attuned for it.

As far as attunements go, MC is far easier. There's really only a handful of mobs you actually need to kill, and most of them are in that hallway leading to the jump before the Shadowforge doors. After that point, hop out the left side window, jump down to that large hall, and lava hop from Incendius to the Black Forge area. Pretty straightforward, that.
Ony, however, requires runs of BRD until you get the note, and then whatever else the alliance side entails. From what I understand of it, it's not quite as involved as the hordeside equivalent.
That said, MC, Ony and BWL are 3 old raids that everyone should see, IMO. AQ40 was kind of a sideshow that doesn't have as much meaning if you weren't around for the opening of the gates. Naxx.. I'm torn about Naxx. On the one hand, it was one that I just missed out on, as the bulk of it happened while I was deployed.

On Alliance side, you're almost done by the time you start worrying about the note. You get the note, you run to Windsor, then kill Argelmach and Angerforge, back to Windsor, break him out, watch a show in Stormwind, fly to Winterspring, talk to someone and you're done.
Now, if you're literally just starting the Ony chain, yeah, it'll take a while. But from what I've seen most of us just gave up at various stages of it.
For the MC attunement... I just wish flying mounts could be used in the old world. I've done the lava hop before, and with ice barrier, mana shield, fire ward, and blink... it's not difficult at all for a frost mage. Last time I did it the longest hop only took me down to 90% health, with no fire resist gear. Most other classes have a much harder time with it though.

Since getting to 70, I've done the lava hop on my shaman quite a few times. If you want to make it easy for any classes, then farm some fire protection pots and quaff them as you're jumping through the lava. A single greater resist will get you pretty much all the way there, and if you take your time, you can get by on plain old fire protection pots.

Yup; AnimeJ, you really have no idea how the GWJ Alliance guild is.
We're driven by fun more than by anything else, and many of us have not done a lot of even the old world content yet.
Me, I'd love to see the old raids. Count me in, just gotta get my questing caught up on that if I can stop myself from collecting motes when I'm logged in (I still have many things to craft yet and those freaking motes are required in ridiculously high numbers).
Good luck, Kiri!
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this old content as well, although I'm sitting at about 1000 XP shy of 55. Levelling is going a lot more quickly these days.

Actually, I get that you guys are a very casual guild. However, that in and of itself lends me the feeling that it's less likely to happen. There's a good bit of work that would have to go into it.
However, with that said, getting enough resist for some of the fights wouldn't be nearly as bad now as they were then. The Aldor/Scryer stuff will pretty much cover you on resist gear with maybe one or two other pieces, like the DM trinket should you still have that as well as the Ony neck for MC. As to Ony, FR is nice to have, but even the tank doesn't need a whole lot if any.
So, doing stuff for fun that is fun is cool. However, I've spent countless hours in Molten Chore(this is slightly overstated, but only slightly). It's not the least fun I've had in WoW, but I'd say it ranks in the top 10. On top of that, if you want to be able to attempt anything close to a full clear, you'll need to have someone that can douse runes, and gettign the items for that can be a bit of a chore in and of itself.
However, if you have folks that have run it to completion, and can do all that, then it's obviously a non-issue. It just doesn't seem that way from the sound of it.

Krindle hit 60 only 3 days before BC came out, and never did any dungeons that were not soloable at some point. Therefore, I don't think I ever started any of the Ony, Naxx, MC or AQ chains. It would be fun, and I'm sure there'd be some decent cash getting all those quests done that are just lying grey and unaccepted somewhere in the world. If people are hungry for it count me in to come along, but if I never hit any of these up, so I won't lose any sleep since I cannot see any reward that won't be replaced by lvl 61 green items in BC.
Raid experience for all guildies in a 10 man or 20 man would be good, but the 5mans and heroics in BC do the same thing IMO...

Ah, I gotcha; then it was I who misunderstood you, not the other way around.
And yeah, I'm thinking that with the levels, resists, and generally higher gear we might have a good shot at this. If only for the fun, it'll be worth trying.
This thread, as with all threads, needs more AnimeJ telling us how to run the guild and generally play.

Thats funny, I was thinking of posting a "Lets start a gwj raid" thread omw home today.
LETS DO IT! How many 60+ peeps do you think we need for the old 60 20 mans? Or UBRS?
Or we can actually get 10 kara keyed people together and...

We're still working the Kara Keys. In the meantime, running the old raids will be a good experience for the guild before taking on Kara.

I need a metric crap ton of Lower City Rep as well, also need Shat and HH, I am however Revered with Cenurion already.
I am up for MC again, would really love to smack Ony upside the head. As long as we can get enough 70s on at a time, MC shouldn't be that tough.
Was talking to a friend last night who was doing MC with 19 people and breezing through it, no deaths.
Wannabe priest with a sword....
First off, Khush, my best to the boy!
Secondly, I too am beffudled and bemused by AJ telling us what he sees and doesn't see for our guild.
Thirdly, I spent plenty of time in MC, but never made it to Ony, so I'm really looking forward to it. We have lots of interest so I don't see any problems with getting there. I think we should also do the MC attunements, with a healer, the lava jump isn't bad really. I can heal you through it, then I can bubble and make it across no problem, have done it several times.
Fourthly, as much as I love the 5 mans, I'm dying to get more of us together in one place, and this could allow for that to happen much faster than Kara. I'm personally very excited about this, but hey, I'm a silly rabbit.
After Winterspring, you have to run UBRS and kill Drakkisath for his blood, then back to WS and you're done. The whole attunement chain for each side can be found at:
http://www.wowwiki.com/Onyxia%27s_Lair_Attunement
Get a warlock back to the attunement stone for MC, and you can cycle people in and out of the group to port them right to it. They just grab the quest from the guy outside the MC portal, go into BRD, port back for the fragment, then hearth out.

I also clean windows..
I think we can get 10-15 people who are at the appropriate lvl and can run it together in one night. I don't know about us having the capability to get almost 20 peeps. Perhaps UBRS/ZG/AQ20 are better solutions for us in the short term? No key necessary except UBRS (Jut and others have that key I think, and that only takes one person w/ key), can do them with 10 or less 70's, and we have experience running those.

Pack enough people into MC to clear it, and you're not gonna get any XP, just a heads up.
I could care less what you all actually do. I'm just throwing out an opinion from having been there and done that as far as raiding goes with a few different guilds. I don't know a whole lot about your situation, aside from the level of casualness. I also know that getting through the old raids is something that casual folks smack their heads on the wall. I suppose I'm playing the jerk letting the air out of tires, but I think that it's somewhat important to have a realistic outlook on these sort of things. They were a pain when they first came out, and 10 extra levels combined with the gear available at 70 has done little to change that. It's certainly made it easier though.

I've heard plenty of people 8-10 manning ZG with decently geared level 70's. Jindoo is still a bastard though.. in fact there will be some boss fights that still have some mechanic that will preclude a small group of 70's from wtfpwning them.
ZG still having a very nice Tanking Leg enchant from the Idols that the Bloodlord and Jindoo drop.

I'd be genuinely surprised if any of us, level-capped or not, give one whit about whether we get xp from these raids.
Krin was talking about real experience, not experience points.
Ah, yea. I suppose in that respect, there's a lot of group dynamic that can be learned, but I dunno if there's anything you'll be able to apply further down the road @ 70 beyond your role in a larger group.

Everyone in GWJ Blackhand Alliance, please take a deep breath and calm down. We should be focusing on the thread's true intent.
It seems we have enough guildies with an interest in seeing the Old World content (again, for many of us), that we should press ahead with the idea.
As for our chances at success...after 2 years of raiding MC and Ony (twice a week, every week), along with the 20 or 30 other raiders we have in the guild (Khushmynta, Littler, Juturna, to name a few), and not to forget our Hordie brothers and sisters who have recently returned from the dark side, I think we're adequately covered.
Thoughts...positive comments?

Sounds like we have quite a few people interested in running this, so I will start on my attunement whenever we are not working on heroics or Kara attunement (since those really have the first and second billings for stuff to do)
This should actually go relatively quick for me too, since I'll fill in only as needed since I'm all geared up and ready for Kara with the exception of a new pair of boots and a shiny new libram.
However, I really have no idea where to start for any of those dungeons, and I'm sure I have a bunch of quests that I should get started on. Let me know where to start so I can be the shiny punching bag
Mayfield is right though, he also does windows
j/k, Vilius would have no problem MTing this either.
Also remember the only 3 reasons for running these:
1. Because it would be just plain fun.
2. Because it would be good to get used to a raid environment as a guild beyond 5man
3. For the storyline and to see what was missed.
Anything gained beyond that is just a bonus (such as enchants, or quest xp).
