WoW Blackhand - Kara?
Monday, June 4th, 2007 - 3:06pm
Hey Everyone,
I was looking over all the 70s that were online on Sunday and noticed that we actually have enough 70s in the guild to potentially do a Kara run. The questions is, what do these 70s need to complete it?
I figure over the next couple of weeks, we could look into getting a few more people keyed up that still need it, and potentially start planning our first lvl 70 raid ![]()
I'd like to know what step people are on for Kara attunement so we can look into doing this.
Krindle - Just needs equipment upgrades to tank this

I need the key, other than that, I'm game.

I think what Zablocki is getting at is what do you need for the Master's Key? It's not the longest key quest I've ever seen; Horde-side Onyxia chain stomps all over it in terms of length, even if Rexxar going to Outland made it easier to do the bits with him.
I think there's a thread around here somewhere, but since I'm too lazy, I'll post a short guide here.
1. Go to Medivh's Tower(Karazhan) in Deadwind Pass. There are two quests to complete there.
2. After completing those two quests, you are given a few FedEx style quests. These ultimately send you to Khadgar, Apprentice to Medivh, of the Sons of Lothar.
3. First thing to do is a Shadow Labyrinth run. A full run is not required, however the fragment here is next to Murmur. Might as well beat him till the loot falls out either before or after getting your fragment from the chest off to the left.
4. Once you've gone back with the fragment, you're tasked with getting the last two fragments. One is in Coilfang's Steamvault and the other is in Tempest Keep's Arcatraz. Neither fragment requires you to kill a boss. Steamvault is in the water before the first boss. Arcatraz is up the ramp and to the right in a large room past the first boss.
5. You've got all 3 pieces. Problem is that breaking it apart destroyed it's magical powers. Only Medivh can restore them. Stupid Khadgar for breaking it into pieces ><. However, Bronze Dragonflight can provide a solution: Go run Black Morass, and talk to Medivh after he opens the Dark Portal. He'll give you your key.
6. One last FedEx run back to Karazhan, and you're set!

Bingo!
Primarily looking at the 70s we have now, and those closing in on it fast. I would like to know which step people are on so we can continuously run Shadow Labs, Steamvaults, Arcatraz & Black Morass to get these people in the door
Those that need to start will need to do the solo quests from Deadwind Pass before even getting to the 5man steps. But I'll be checking online almost every night to see who needs what, and if there is anything I can get beat up by to help

For some folks, they may or may not have issues with the solo quests. I know that when I did them not long after hitting 70, adds were a huge problem for me. A Protadin for some AE grinding in there would have been supa sweet. Just sayin and all that.

I've got the second of the first two quests from Karazhan to finish, then ramp up from there.

Take your time Fedaykin98.
The fun is in the journey not the destination. Though I can understand your wanting to catch up to everyone else, you may burn yourself out in the process and those at the top often would say their favorite experiences in the game were doing many of the instances on the way to the end game. /shrug

I thought you guys were running BM after Old Hillsbrad on Sunday?
Me too. Am sitting on this step and waiting for that BM run.
The key to victory is to not suck as bad as the other side.
We did run it Farscry...and failed to keep that mofo Medivh alive. IMO, we needed more dps.

I guess I'll go ahead and start working on these with Mage Vel, and put the brakes on Warlock Vel for a while. Keying up should help me with those last two pesky levels before 70. I think the biggest problem I've had lately is that the money grind for my flying mount, and the rep grinds for heroics burned me out in terms of higher level content. Maybe this will bring me back to the end game stuff.
I haven't started any of it though, so I'll be heading to deadwind pass tonight. Maybe we can get a Shadow Labs run going once I get to that part (shouldn't take me long... FedEx quests aren't as time consuming for a mage).

My experience with Black Morass is that the amount of DPS you bring is never an issue. Take my dual enhance shaman run as an example. It was after the bear tank nerf, so the tank wasn't providing much in the way of DPS. I was fairly well geared, but nothing extrordinary; I was maintaining 280-300 dps. The other shaman was putting up 220-250, with around 150 from the tank. All that was on the elites spawning from the portals. The two key pieces that got us through that were the Holy/Disc priest sporting some 1600+heal and ~100mp5 standing regen. The other was the affliction lock on add duty; he's extraordinarily skilled at that.
Keeping Medivh up can certainly be a challenge, but most of it lies in having someone who can handle multiple adds with minimal support. After that, it's really little more than a time attack tank & spank. So, with that in mind, here's my recommendations for handling adds:
Prot Paladin: I know it sounds a little strange, but the adds are non-elites. I can handle 2-3 elites right below my level for a good period of time, and even con elites can get stacked up to 4-5 at once, and I can drop em all pretty quick.
BM Hunter: I suppose this is kind of obvious. Hunters are hard as nails as it is, and a BM spec'd hunter with the right pet can drop the adds with blazing speed, and even apply DPS to the elites and bosses in the interim. Easiest run I've ever done had one of these.
Warlock: It's a Warlock. They could solo Illidan with the right spec, I'd wager. Less snarky though, DM or Affliction are pretty good choices too. Get the VW out, and just dot em up and go. Affliction will burn em a bit quicker than DM, but DM would likely have an easier time managing them for the same reasons as a BM hunter.
Mage: I don't think spec matters here as long as they can AE kite a bunch of mobs. I've never seen it done, but I hear good things about it.
Shadow Priest: Same thing as locks.
Beyond that, the only important thing is Chrono Beacons. Save em till after the second boss, then use em to keep the adds off Medivh, or to help burning down the elites.

Well, hopefully there's room for a Holy-spec Paladin to fit into a successful BM group.
Main heals are FTW. I haven't talked much about Holy paladins because I haven't honestly run much with them. I've done some world group quests with holy pallys, but that's about it. Ultimately, the crux of this instance is whoever is on add duty. If you're a heal spec'd pally, you'll do fine, same goes for shaman or any other healer type class.
Coldstream wrote:
Speaking as a level 70 holy spec pally, yah, you should be fine. In fact alot of times I end up main healing for GWJ runs. Especially if Kush and Jut are not available.
Wannabe priest with a sword....
I was part of that unsuccessful BM run, as a holy priest I feel I let you all down.
Oh well, suck it up soldiers! We'll just have to try again.
As far as the key goes, I am ready to do Shadow Lab to get the first fragment. I'll be checking in all this week to see if we have a group to go.
You didnt let us down.. if we down the elites faster we would have less adds, and less trouble when we got near the end.

I've had decent luck main-healing for GWJ runs lately; had trouble in the mid-60's tagging along on higher-level instances, but since hitting 70 and getting my final spell upgrades and picking up some better healing gear, I'm doing decently. Still have trouble when multiple people are getting pounded at once (I still can't chain-heal without going oom too soon), but otherwise I'm happy with my healing performance. I was just more concerned about how doable BM would be from the sound of AnimeJ's post.
It's doable. We did well for the first (for most of us) try...we'll get it next time around.

Black Morass is an awesome instance, easily my personal favorite of the Outland instances far and away. The catch is that it can be absolutely punishing for groups the first few times through there until the folks you run with get a handle on the elite spawns. So.. here's a few more tips from the peanut gallery
-- Be on your toes. Once you close a portal, expect the next one in around 5 seconds.
-- There's only a few spawn points for portals. I'm not sure on the actual number, but I'm pretty sure it's less than 6, most likely 4-5. With your back to Medivh, there's one NE, NW, E and W.
-- I haven't seen anyone mention this, but if you're having issues with critters(a term I use loosely to indicate cats and crocs), then clear em out before you approach Medivh. I've assumed you're doing this already, but I've had a couple groups that didn't know to do this ahead of time short of just clearing directly to him.
-- Be on your toes. I'm sure it's apparent, but the instance moves really fast. I'm positive that any group can finish this instance, as long as you have a tank, a healer and somone to handle adds. The difference in how easy it is comes in how quickly you get used to the pace. All instances that come before BM are doable at your groups pace, although Old Hillsbrad pushes you a little bit here and there after rescuing Thrall.
Once more, good luck!

best to try and spam some AOE if your the tank.. that way the adds as they come out stick near the tank and are easier to kill.
Bears can swipe.. Warriors can Thunderclap.. Pallys can do that stupid yellow looking thingy.
You need good dps and a good healer and your golden. save the beacons like AnimeJ said for the waves leading up to the last boss.. since the second boss is usually the roadblock.. and if you get by him.. you want to absolutely make sure nothing goes wrong with each of the last remaining waves before the last boss.
Ignore adds on boss waves.. and watch AOE during a boss wave as you dont want adds chewing on your healer.

We actually got close on both attempts we tried Sunday, and pretty much did all the stuff everyone is mentioning. First wipe came on wave 17, when we got swarmed with adds, second on came on Aeonus when all but the healer and tank bit the dust. We'll most likely be doing the instance again in a few days, closer to the weekend.
As well, it seems a few people are ready for a Shadow Labs run, and I'm just curious of the people who need it, when a good time to run this would be?
I'm available to get pummeled most nights of the week

Well, I'm a little daunted by the priest with 1600+healing and 100mp5, I can't help but feel inferior. I've got some pretty good gear and all buffed up I'm only in the neighborhood of 1100 and ~85mp5. I'd love to see what that priest is sporting to get those numbers.
But that's neither here nor there, I could do Shadow Lab any night this week. As long as I know it's scheduled, I can arrange to be there.
She was also a tailor/chanter and had run every non-heroic into the ground, along with every +heal chant and all that jazz. Those numbers are the mark of someone rather driven to getting geared.

Rumor is there was a crazed old bear running around Ironforge last night. Maybe you should round him up and chase him into Kara?
Word on the streets was that he's old and crazy but he really really enjoys hitting things.
Find that bear and give him a pointy stick!
I'm keyed and I'm in. Wait .. nm.
