UbiDays: New Assassin's Creed Trailer, Interviews
A bunch of new Assassin's Creed media up at GameTrailers. There's a new Trailer and an interview with Jade "Run Away With Me" Raymond: Part 1 and Part 2. All links are to the HD .wmv files. If you like quicktime, you can go find the files yourself, heathen. ![]()
The trailer is cool and stylish, but nothing new. Still looks good. The interview, however, is very cool. She talks about things that we (or at least I,) had yet to hear about, and it all sounds great.
I like the fact that the crowd will not be one big predictable mass, but will be made out of archetypes that act differently, and that observant players will be able to possibly spot and avoid (or deliberately encounter, as the case may be.) I like it, that is, provided that a) members of an archetype are not visual clones of one another and b) there are enough different archetypes that it still stays somewhere around the realm of believability.
Also, her comments as to how Altair controls were very interesting. It sounds somewhat counter-intuitive, maybe even a bit confusing, but I did get the impression that once you get it, you get it. Exactly as she says in the interview, it's a movement system, not a list of moves. Which is exactly the gameplay philosophy that I love.
I love the way these sorts of set ups allow you to "free style," or ad-lib. You may have never done something before, may never have even thought of doing it before, but the second you think of it, you know for a fact that it's possible - because you know how your character controls. You don't have to think about whether that move is in the game, or what button combo it is, you just understand the system behind movement, and thus know what you can do. That approach seems to permeate the entire game - Hitman this is not, and thank God for that. No matter how elaborate or cool the scripted event, it will never be even a fraction as satisfying as something that you do yourself.
If I could find a fighting game that had this philosophy, rather than the "memorize button combo 1 through 231" I'd be in heaven. Oh wait, I did find one, it was called Jedi Outcast's Online Duel mode. ![]()

Wait, Ubisoft has an attractive female talking head named Jade Raymand? Did they grow her in a vat?
Love the new trailer, especially the bit where you just see Altair's shadow. Her description of the control scheme differs from what we heard about six months ago. Interesting.

Seriously. She is pretty damn hot.

Ok yea the lady was very hot. Amazing brown eyes. But back on topic, the game just looks amazing. In fact I like the look of it so much I might very well have to buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 just to play this game. Or at very least find a place that will rent a system to me for a while.

I agree. But I wonder what kinda things she goes through being a pretty girl working for the gaming industry. Guess is it isn't all rainbows and sunshine.

The fighting scene's look very impressive with the nice 300 slowdowns in them. It sure makes me want to run around in a sandbox medieval village killing people. Add the nice freedom of movement and cool moves and I am thrilled.
I don't watch, I interact!
Loved the trailer and I cannot wait to be able to play the game, explore that world, meet the interesting people, and then kill them

Well put.
I'm really looking forward to this one as well.

My one gripe is some of the swordfighting looks wonky; as in Altair doesn't appear to actually hit some of the enemies.
Still, god damn. If this was a PS3 exclusive, I'd buy the system for it.

Lord that lady goes to 11!
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
It originally was an exclusive but I'm guessing MS pushed really hard to get it on the 360.
Lag used to be a lot worse back in the day. Hell, it took Jesus 3 days to respawn.

Judging by the trailers, I'm guessing that it cost so much to make that they discovered that there was no way it could pay for itself solely on PS3 version sales without a huge exclusivity bribe from Sony. Very, very nice work.
Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

Any word as to when the game ships?

The weirdness I saw was that the swords would be swinging towards each other in slow motion and then they'd suddenly be in contact, as if several frames got cut out. Doesn't strike me as a big deal though and probably wouldn't be all that noticeable when run at normal speed.

I didn't have a chance to see the interview (maybe I'll watch it this evening), but damn that was a well crafted trailer. Not only was it a fine music selection put to great use, but the trailer managed to show gameplay footage and get me excited without making me feel like I was seeing too much of the game.
On second thought, maybe I'll have a media blackout on this one and try to experience it as fresh as possible whenever it eventually shows up.

It was never an exclusive. When they first demoed it there was a 360 behind the curtains running it. They were just pretending it was, in the same fashion Devil May Cry did.
And from the trailers I am very excited about this game.

It's rumored to be Fall 07, but this is one of my must own titles of the year, I really cannot wait for this game.
I saw this Trailer and it's like
, It really looks amazing

I'll echo that sentiment. Plus she went to the same University as me!
Montreal has hottest girls in North America, hands down.
Oh, and about Assassin's creed.....I've criticized the 360 many times for being an FPSBox, and I'm sad this isn't coming to pc (although these kind of games control better with a controller anyways)...this might very well be the killer app that drives me to an xbox purchase (or at least drives me to convince one of my friends to get one).
That trailer was just...wow. I really, really like trailers and movie scenes that look like they are made FOR a song (as opposed to music that was selected and sliced to fit a scene) and this really had that feeling. One of the top 5 trailers i've seen from a direction standpoint, for sure.

I believe this IS coming to PC, at least I've seen several websites (IGN, Gamershell, the Assassin's Creed official forums, etc) that say it will be released for PC as well.
Though I'll bet the PC version won't be ready until after the console versions have released.
Oh and yes, Jade is quite beautiful. Even hotter because of her obvious intelligence and enthusiasm.

Good stuff. The "tags" on gamevideos.com mentioned only 360 and ps3, not exactly an authoritative source. My bad.

Whoa! I'm with Dysplastic - that is one of the best trailers for a game I've ever seen. I wasn't paying much attention to the game before but it's now very near the top of my "most interested" list! Well done, Ubi.

That is a great trailer for a game
I am really excited for the game, it looks great, though Jade Raymond is very beautiful as well, so that helps

I actually didn't think the trailer was all that amazing. I mean, some of the combat looked fantastic - the bit where the guard falls off the roof, in particular - but the direction felt like it was trying really, really hard. Although, I'm really not the best judge, since I'm kind of anal about anachronism outside of the comedy genre. I just couldn't get over the jarring nature of having some techno-britpop song, cool though it is, playing over video of middle-ages Jerusalem.
That sort of stuff could fly in A Knight's Tale, but it irks me when it's not being deliberately funny. I hope that's not indicative of the game's overall approach to creating atmosphere.
Plus, it would seem that French directors' love for slow mo (see: Brotherhood of the Wolf, or any French action film,) has carried over to French Canada, too.
