Finished my cockpit for Forza 2. Thought some of you would be interested.

I think I'm ready for Forza 2 now. My buddy Tim helped me build this thing. I'd say overall it took around 10 hours mainly because this is the first time we've done something like this.

On the first picture you can see how I brought it home. The headrest is popping out of the sunroof. The entire thing can fold up quite nicely.

Now all you need is an adjustable height steering wheel and some rails to make the seat leg height adjustable to the pedals. Of course you have headphones but you might as well make an enclosure in which you put a 5.1 surround system around you. Of course the six point harness, a rumble seat for vibration. I guess it's a project that you could just keep adding more and more onto it as time goes on. Not to mention you could easily take off old electronics from it and put on new ones when the Xbox 360 is obsolete and the next one comes out. I guess the Xbox 720?

Not bad. I like how you can fold the whole thing up. adjustable steering wheel height would be a plus as I like it pretty low. I use a coffee table that has legs in the right place to hold the peddles but because of the height I feel like I'm driving a pickup truck instead of a race car. I'm so tempted to pull out the Sawsall.

What surprised us the most is that we didn't have any big problems with it. That's definitely a first for us. Everything seemed to work just like we planned it to.

For those asking about adjusting the steering wheel height, all I need to do is drill some more 3/4" holes along the frame and the steering wheel becomes instantly adjustable. All the major hinges are done with dowels, so it's pretty easy.

And unfortunately I don't have to worry much about women seeing this thing. Even still, I can just fold it up and drag it into a closet if need be.

Ah yeah, I've seen a bunch of different ones on the internet but they all seemed a bit overpriced to me. I guess those are also good for quick storage and whatnot.

Well according to Mr. Bob Earl, this is the ideal position for driving and based on F1. Personally, while I think it works great, I wouldn't mind something that's closer to what I'm used to. I don't drive F1 cars all that much you know. But of all the cockpits you can buy I think this is the best bang for the buck. Sure beats the sh*t out of having the wheel on your lap or mounted to a desk.

rabbit - "no wife" was my first thought as well. Well, I do have a room that I'm allowed to do with as I please...it's got my drums and guitars in it, though.

souldaddy - I once lived with a bunch of guys in this house, and we regularly had girls over and would introduce them to the magical goodness of Mario Kart. They all took to it like ducks to water - perfect gateway game. Of course, we didn't have any contraptions that we had built...

First thought? My wife wouldn't let me keep it in the living room. Sure if I had the room in the computer room, a pure no brainer.
Second thought? Did he use plans? But you already answered, good carpentry skills to have it turn out the first time (and even be able to fit into your 'real' car) and able to transport it. That means YOU have to upload the plans for others.

To complete it though, you really need to get a mock driver's side door. Nothing makes a man feel sexier than hanging his arm out his open window wolf whistlin' at the ladies like that damn driver's side door. It's an aphrodisiac I tells ya. If they made one that attached to us guys for parties we'd all be getting play, I think.
