Xbox 360 - New to the party
So I just got my 360, and so far I'm having a blast. But I do have a couple of questions for the group:
1) I picked up Catan and Geometry wars, and I'm really enjoying both. What other arcade games do you guys recommend?
2) Multiplayer - if Xbox live is anything like the PC world, multiplayer can be a completely hit or miss experience. If any of you caretake pity on an xbox newbie, please add me to a friends list! Besides Catan, I have Gears of War, Crackdown, and Crimson skies. I tend to lose quite a bit, so it won't bother me to get the hammer dropped. I will keep an eye on the calendar here as well, and try to make a few of the organized events. Anyway, hope to you some of you Live!

1) I really loved Marble Blast Ultra.
2) We play the snot out of Gears of War, and there's a lot of Halo 3 beta action going on right now. Watch the events calendar to see what people are playing. And make sure any friend requests you send mention GWJ in them, or people will think you're some random dude.

Disclaimer: I don't own a 360.
From what I've seen, here's the big multiplayer on Live games:
Gears of War, Crackdown, Halo 2 and soon 3.
Games that just rock your socks:
Guitar Hero 2

As far as arcade games go, get Aegis Wing because it's awesome and free! I also have Worms and Zuma.

XBLA Games:
#1: Wik and the Fable of Souls - still the most unique, inventive game on XBLA.
#2: Assault Heroes - a new JACKAL/Ikari Warriors with online co-op.
#3: Lumines Live - you'll enjoy it, and you'll wish you never played it. Damn the Lumines trance!
#4: Mutant Storm Reloaded - controls like Geometry Wars but more interesting IMO
#5: Outpost Kaloki X - criminally overlooked! A real neat "strategy" game involving building a space station's economy and defenses (a bit overly simplistic at first but gets real interesting later)
#6: Worms - it's Worms!
#7: Alien Hominid HD - best version of a cool game
#8: Texas Hold 'em - excellent poker game
#9: DOOM - level design is still excellent, great online co-op
#10: Zuma - excellent puzzle game, much more fun than the mind-numbing Hexic
Honorable mentions: Lots of other old games - Gauntlet, Smash TV, Robotron, many more
And as for multiplayer games, Rainbow Six: Vegas is still the king for me. GR:AW 2 is great fun in co-op but not as great in adversarial IMO (plus everyone online just plays team deathmatch games, whoop de doo)

You have to believe, we are magic.
Pinball FX on XBLA. I'll be waiting.
Earth Defense Force 2017 at retail, if you can find it, is insane shootemup fun. Some people take Gears way too seriously online, just an observation.
MaxShrek .. Do it first, do it yourself, and keep on doing it.

Hi all - thanks for the opinions expressed so far. Legion, thats quite a list! I'm already semi-addicted to Geometry Wars, so if these other arcade games are equally fun, I may not have time to spend on Crackdown and Gears!

Apart from games, make sure you buy an extended guarantee for the 360. It's likely to die on you.
Hatchet Job - intelligent and irrevent gaming discussion.
That's why you've gotta play with the Goodjers instead of the random jerks online, man!

Agreed, GRAW 2 is awesome in the co-op! GoW and GRAW 2 are taken way to serious most the time in MP. CRACKDOWN is a must! BFMC is still the best MP for me, just jump in anytime and go to town - no lobby waiting.

I would say in terms of what gets playtime, I play Catan and Pinball FX most at the moment. I mean, Guitar hero 2, where's the love?
Worms is great, and you'd be surprised how often you can get a bunch of idiots to play Uno. Although i think Catan will probably scratch that itch for me from here on out.
As for "big" games (besides GH2) -- I've enjoyed Gears and Viva Pinata, although I'm pretty much ready to trade pinata in. I got a lot of playtime out of it (for me).

I really like the texas hold em poker. I was lucky enough to grab it when it was free so I'm not sure how much it actually cost. I'll send you a friend invite next time I'm on.
Sure! And, if you want to fill that friends list up, just go to a thread about whatever game you want to play online, see who's playing it, and send them friend requests *with* a note mentioning that you're from GWJ (I know I said that earlier, but it's worth repeating).

Do XBLA market prices ever go down? For instance, will the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion be $30 forever? I picked up the PC version for just $17 the week it came out, and it will probably be even cheaper within the year.
