Crazy EB Games Deal - 6-10 games takes a bite off new Consoles (Canada Only)
Disclaimer: Normally I don't pay close attention to EB Games sales as I loathe even the thought of stepping foot inside one of the stores, but I have.
So here's the deal. Any game that EB says has a trade in value of $8 CDN or more gets bumped to $26 CDN. All games with a trade in value of $3-7 CDN gets bumped to $10 CDN. This sale ends at the end of May.
8 Games - New PSP + Free Game (Completely free)
6 Games - New DS Lite (Completely free)
4 Games - Used Xbox (Completely free)
10 Games - New PS3 60GB for only $399.99
10 Games - New PS3 20GB for only $289.99
10 Games - New 360 Premium + Splinter Cell for only $239.89
10 Games - New 360 Core for only $139.89
Here's the kicker. Apparently a lot of games that you'd think wouldn't have a high trade in - they do. Super Mario 64 for $19 and Final Fantasy X for $14 etc. Keep in mind, all of these older games count as "One" towards the few needed for the above systems.
Here is a good thread with a lot of feedback on what makes the magic $8+ TIV game list. Here is the direct link to the flyers.
Also keep in mind they are giving $44 CDN for Elder Scrolls 3: Oblivion for this month.
I've included my receipts in case you want to check out what the games were worth. The "$26 Ones" were the bumped up ones - any other games I stacked "In addition" to the deal, bringing it down even less.
Good deal for anyone who has a ton of older games kicking around and wants a cheap Bluera... er.. PS3 ![]()

Playstation 3 60. Heh.

Oh snap, with this I can get a PSP and Metal Gear Acid.
edit: Cheap ass gamer has nothing about it, so it probably is CAD only.

You would still make a lot more money selling them yourself but if you're in a rush I guess it's a little better than their usual BS.
I hate those /$%?@ anyway. They make beelions out of used games each year and that's only hurting our poor developers.

I did it.
It's done.
I feel dirty.
Sorry green. No way in hell I would have made $300 off of 10 used games, half of which were for Gamecube.
It's important that you try to use games as close to an $8.00 trade-in value as possible, since that's the minimum
for them to be counted as part of your ten.
..So that's it. The last next gen console.. Do I get some sort of set bonus effect?

Way to go man! Did they ask you about trading in two more for a free PS3 game? Apparently (only) when you buy the system, if you slap them another couple $8 TIV games you get to choose.

No, they didn't mention that.. I just bought VF5 and Resistance at my local game shop (When I walked in they were showing off a virtual boy, awesome place). It made a little of the ick go away.

How sad is this? I've got over 100 games and I can't pick out 8 to 10 that I'm willing to ditch for a PSP?

Canada definitely got a great deal this time. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Well I've gotten my list up to 18 possible games not (This purge is starting to feel cathartic!) but I'm not sure how many of them are going to be in the $8 minimum range.
Well, at the very least I'll have some nice shelf space left over!

I just phoned ahead when I did it. Anything with Mario in the title is definitely over $8.00. Also remember that the instruction manual and box are required and they don't take GBA or PS1 games.

I had added FF 1 & 2 and Mario/Luigi Superstar Saga for the GBA and FF VIII to my list assuming they weren't going to work towards the discount; I just realized I'm never going to finish them so there's no point in keeping them around anymore.
This ended up being less about me getting a "free" PSP and more finally purging myself of games I'm never going to play again. As much as I like Mario Kart: Double Dash, Metroid Prime Hunters, Phoenix Wright, and Dragon Quest VIII I'm either never going to play them again or I'm never going to finish them. So why keep them around?

I hear you Trach, I used to be a big hoarder, but now I just take a look at what I have and ask myself - hey - are you going to play this game, for more than the 5 minutes until the nostalgia wears off?
Some 360 games I was keeping to eventually get around to the harder achievements. Then I realized, those would take many hours to do, and I had no desire to spend that time and effort getting achivements from something I've already beaten once or twice.
Plus, being an adult with a limited amount of gaming time, having less titles of superior quality > having more titles and taking longer to choose what to play.
Also, I think they do take some GBA games. Check out that Redflagdeals link I posted, I could have sworn I saw some on there...

I plan to do it soon, I don't really need a PS3 this soon but for the price it's hard to beat it

I don't know, I've been mulling over the decision a bit. Keep in mind these are all Canadian dollars.
10 games = $260
PS3 60GB after tax = $789
That leaves $529 and you still need to buy a cable for it. Assuming you don't buy any PS3 games too. It's still an expensive fricking device. Even to throw in my old Gamecube ($25) and PS2 ($45) hardly makes a dent. I'd have to feed in roughly 80% of my game library to even come close to affording this thing. And there still aren't any games to play! Bah.
Maybe I'll choke down a PSP instead

You wanna play Motorstorm this bad? Wait for a few good games first. They probably will have dropped the price by then. That's my plan anyway.

I've already decided not to bother. It's a bad sign when even given a deal like this, the system is still too expensive to overcome the lack of software.

Do you have Oblivion still Certis? Also, I think EB only seems to tax the balance after trade-ins
10 Games = $399.99 PS3
Elder Scrolls = -$44.00 (Featured trade-in game)
PS2 = -$45.00 (I could have sworn this was 60 at some point?)
GC = -$25.00
--------------
= $285.99 before tax
I can't remember if you get bent over on the taxes like BC though
Also, if you don't want to do the HDMI thing, my PS2 component cables worked fine, screw that $100 cable tax hehe.
