Like the article says, can't say it's a shock and it isn't the first time Sci-Fi pulled the plug on one of their shows when the viewership didn't justify the expense. Least they had the deceny to do it know rather than in the middle of the season and not give the writers a chance to tie things up.

Too bad. Good show.

On a bright note, the pilot for Traveller last night seemed pretty good.

Never watched it, so, frankly, I couldn't care less. In fact, I'm glad - I've gotten sick of hearing about it from rabid fanboys of the series.

hmm....I wonder how you could avoid that....let me think....

I think its a good thing. I honestly think the shows biggest problem is that it was more popular than anyone ever thought it would be. They started with a story to tell (at least if you give them the benefit of the doubt), and then were asked to make that story last longer. We got a bunch of filler eps, and became disenchanted. I try to look back and remember the good times, and I hope making the contract terms clear this far in advance will make for a helluva last season.

I think watching this one ride off into the sunset will be enjoyable.

Naw. This is a good thing. With any luck they'll bang out a tightly woven story in season 4 and send it off properly. We've talked about this before. It would be a virtue if more shows ended after fewer season. Tell the story you need to tell, don't stretch it, then call it good.

Sci Fi channel crap. They have done this so many times to other good shows that ran on their network. Yet they continued to show SG1 and even made a branch off (Atlantis) even though it carried the same amount of viewers as BSG. So lets see.. just as popular as your other shows, costs a bit more to make due to it's superb special effects, obviously lets cancel it.

I hate mainstream TV sometimes. Too bad HBO or Showtime would never pick it up. Can you imagine BSG with an HBO Series budget and actual nudity? I would be hooked for years.

I have no issues with stopping a show when the show's storyline is complete. I think 5 years is the magic number myself. Anything going over 5 years is pushing it and should probably be re-examined for interest. I personally think (sorry to harp on SG1 like this) that SG1 should have been finished after season 6 at the latest. The last 4 seasons have been crap and every time I tuned in to see if it changed I end up changing the channel within 10 min. Sorry but if SG1 can go for 10 seasons I don't see how BSG could be canceled after 4. Grrr.

A 4 season run isn't bad by any means, and at least the writers and producers of the show know in advance, so they can write the show accordingly. I'll miss the show, but it will go out with a bang.

I didn't watch the first season. I thought it sounded like Sci-Fi channel crap. I haven't watched a Sci-Fi show since Star Trek and Star Trek Next Gen. After a lot of people I respected recommended I rent the Mini-Series I decided to give it a go. From the first hour I was amazed and instantly hooked. I then sat my wife down and made a deal with her... I would watch The O.C. with her (bleh) if she would watch BSG with me. After the Mini-Series she was more hooked than I was and we spent the next few weeks watching the entire first season. 3 Seasons later we aren't watching the O.C. but we can't wait for the final season of BSG.

I couldn't agree more with everyone stating that its a good thing. From the very beginning of this show it has been amazing, edgy storytelling and I can't think of a better way to go out than with 22 episodes where they can finish it. The creator Ron Moore has always stated that this show was never meant to live a very long life. He had an idea of how to finish it from the start and this seems to be the way he wants to go out.

I have heard they are working on a side project "Caprica" which will be a spin-off.

To those who haven't seen it... do yourself a favor just for the hell of it... rent the four hour mini-series... if you aren't hooked by the end... then maybe its just not for you.

I'm confused. I had the privilege of presenting an award along side Michael Nanken (writer/director for Battlestar Galactica) who said they have been prepping seasons 4 and 5 for the last month. I suppose that season 4 could be comprised of two smaller seasons, but he said they have plans to do both. Whom do I believe? The actors or the director/writer?

I don't even watch this show (yet) and I'm bothered by this. I missed the beginning, so I always intended to just buy the DVDs and catch up at some point. So...yet another great show bites the dust.

Ok waitaminute...I followed the link above and...is the show cancelled...? Or was this just an actor shooting his mouth off?

Ahh crap either way I'm going to catch up on this show in the next few weeks, dammit.

Edit: I'm...confused...

I don't watch anime but I have been told that for most cartoons, they produce X number of episodes at the start and then when it run is over, it's over. I wish TV here could do that. It would give the writers a chance to write a tight story arc and less filler.

For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. ~Ron Shelton, Bull Durham, 1988

I found myself abruptly and completely bored with BSG after the fight scene episode... it had somehow transformed from science fiction into soap opera, I guess. I didn't make any conscious decision to avoid it, I just mysteriously stopped watching.

Is it worth picking back up? I really enjoyed it early on.

Malor, I believe it is. There were a few stumbles along the way in season 3 starting at the episode you mentionned, but in my opinion things started looking up again around Maelstrom. The addition of a new character, Romo Lampkin (played by Mark Sheppard) was excellent and added nicely to the last few episodes of the season.

The "fight scene episode"? Are you talking about the boxing episode? First off, it's always been a bit of a soap opera in some respects. IMHO. Yes, season 3 was MUCH worse about this. And yes, it got better at the end of season 3. So there is still hope. Assuming early season 3 is where you dropped off.

Also, why does everyone want more seasons? I say keep it tight as possible. If there are only 4 (I would argue 3, since season 3 was so bad) seasons worth of stories to tell, then tell them and wrap it up. I wish Lost had done that. My wife wishes Alias had done that. This isn't frackin' ER. We don't want to be watching the new revelation of the other final 5 10 years from now, do we?

I simply want the show to go as many episodes as it needs to go to tell the complete story from start to finish. Babylon 5 was written before hand the entire thing. They new the entire story arc and they knew it would take 5 seasons to go from beginning to end. Then they went off on a tangent with the other crap they did which sucked.

I just don't see them closing things up well in just one more season. I do however see it happening in 5 seasons.

There is alot that can be told in one season, and I'd rather they didn't water the show out just to get more money. If they keep it tight with fewer episodes (ie. one season) the show will be much, much better then if they stretch it out to two season.

So hell did freeze over after all; Welcome to Skjold!

The Exec Producer has come out and claimed that they have not announced an End. So he says season 4 won't be the end.
But they will be filming 22 episodes instead of 11

For the first time in recorded history, I agree with everything DSG wrote. I had buddies poking fun at it long before Pegasus about how soapy it was. If the story tightens up, it could become a must-watch again.

I'm actually very happy to hear this news. Season 3 is a far cry fro the first season, or even the mini-series in terms of quality, etc. It's hard to tell a long, long story when you have no idea how long exactly it's gong to be. Hopefully this empowers the writer guys to come up with some really remarkable stuff.
