Guess I'm gonna have to set the alarm clock for earlier than usual. I wonder how big it is going to be? I'm probably gonna have to delete some stuff.

Before I left for work I started the download. One of the new features from the latest dashboard update lets you set your 360 to shutdown after it is finished it's active download which means I don't have to go home at lunch just to shutdown my system. Nice. It was pretty small too at 691 megs. I was thinking at least a gig.

I downloaded it before work as well. It appears the promised faster downloads are true because it took under 10 minutes to finish. I can't wait to give it a go when I get home.

Where is the setting to do low power downloading? I looked briefly but didn't see an option.

If I would have know it would download that fast I would have stayed home for a little while and tried a couple races. Does anyone know if this is an online demo or just a single player demo?

It's in the Console Setting menu, where the Auto Shutdown option is. If you choose to do this, you actually have to turn the Xbox off in order to get it into the low power download mode.

Well, for the record, I find the demo a little disappointing. It seems like they cut out a ton of stuff to keep the download size of the demo down, and as a result the demo doesn't feel like a terribly good representation of what the final game will be.

Now don't get me wrong, this is still on my to-buy list, and it at least gives us a chance to play with a number of cars and see how pretty they are, but the demo itself just feels far too limited.

Cool. So after changing this option I just turn it off as I normally would but it continues to download?

About the only thing the demo would be useful for imo is making sure the physics feel right.

Yeah. Once you power the console down, the yellow light ring on the power button should flash every few seconds to indicate that it's in the low power mode.

I've heard from someone on another forum that they don't have the anti-aliasing up that high and there are a good amount of jaggies. Anyone know if the final build is gonna be like this or if it was just for the demo?

During gameplay it seems as though they play tricks with the screen buffer resolution as did PGR3, and anti-aliasing appears off. During replay they seem to be doing full res and anti-aliasing. I guess that's the tradeoff for 60FPS and the physics engine running at 360FPS. I assume it'll be like that in the final game since it went gold this morning.

Rock Band Name Generator!... too funny to merely be coincidence.

So the screenshots look closer to the replay mode than the actual ingame graphics?

I would say so. It's most apparent with the hood view... the hood is quite heftily pixellated. Please do bear in mind that I got to run a single race this morning before work and view the replay, so I haven't spent a whole ton of time looking. But that was my first impression.

60 fps >>>>>> anti-aliasing

I am tired of games raping their framerate in favor of purty effects. On the PC, I can turn things down/off and get a nice, fast, fluid framerate. I absolutely hate not being able to do this on console games.

Nothing looks better than a rock-solid smooth framerate. Nothing. IMNSHO.

Play a game long enough, and you'll stop noticing the prettiness the way you did at first. But you will never, ever, stop noticing and appreciating 60fps.

I agree. That's the lovely thing, just how utterly smooth it is. I can survive a bit of aliasing given that level of smoothness.

I played it a bit this morning on an SD TV and loved it. The bits of car that fall off don't seem to have much effect when run back over tho.

Not that I had a lot of small bits falling off... they were huge.

Just played a couple of races..some notes:

- My download was *very* quick. Much quicker than before the update.
- The game looks very, very good. Better than PGR3, but without the cool car interiors.

I'm buying it on release day.

That makes me a sad robot.

Before Forza 1, I never could quite wrap my head around car sims. Something about their take on the formula made it click for me, though, and I've been eagerly anticipating Forza 2 since it was first announced. In the interim, though, I was able to use that new appreciation of the genre to get into PGR3, and my favorite thing about that game was how goddamn right it felt to play it in the cockpit view with the accurately modeled interiors. Given that, if there was one new feature I would have liked to see in Forza 2, that would have been it.

Such is life.

Still, I can't wait to get home from work and give the game a spin. I wonder, does the demo have support for the wheel? It seems like it might be a wise idea to try and pick up the wheel now if you were going to actually buy it and avoid the scarcity that will no doubt develop around the launch of the game, you know?
