Isn't that the game from the 80s where you try to knock your opponents off of their oostrich?

So, tell me more about Joost. As usual, the web page just seems to go on about TV "but better". Or, just send me an invite and I'll check it out myself.

Anyone want to tell us what this Joost stuff is?

Thanks, Ed! So far no luck at the office. It crashed on my XP machine and says it can't install on my Vista machine with an esoteric error message.

Okay, so Joost is TV over the net. Edwin makes it sound like it's got a lot of features, but the website doesn't do a good job of telling you about them. Also, some of the channels aren't available in the US. Argh.
So, what's this thing offer? It's a free beta right now, but at some point they're going to charge for it. What will make it better than HD/digital cable? I've gotta be able to get ESPN and various sporting events, at a minimum.

Ok, thanks Edwin. I appreciate it.
Seems like it doesn't work for me. I just see crystals dancing in the lower right hand corner. The interface seems slick, but not much else.

Gracias Edwin.
Worked like a charm for me over my work network/wireless.
Watched some Comedy Central, some National Geographic... there were a few stutters and in some spots it seemed the quality decided to turn blocky, but all in all a positive experience! I look forward to checking it out at home over my better connection (and less paranoia about some of the racier content).

I have invites as well. Anyone still need one?

This brings TV to my computer screen, right? The little thing across the room from the big screen TV + cable?

Some of us have computers hooked up to our TVs, or the ability to via a laptop. Ease of use/interface is still all-important, though. Lately I haven't turned my Media Center PC on at all, and it's very easy to use.

Apparently there's a bug. [EDIT]ON SOME COMPUTERS[/EDIT] The program will run right after install, but if you shut it down and try to start it up again it will fail.
So far the only work-around I've seen in the forums is to uninstall and reinstall EVERY TIME. Screw that.
PITA.
Search for Breakpoint in the forums to see what I mean.

Damn Edwin, you're fast! Many thanks.
I can't wait to try this out at home.
Red Foxx, standing by.
Thanks for the invite Ed.
I recently got my internet download/upload speeds doubled so I thought this might work ok.
In reality.. I get the first ten seconds of whatever I try and watch when I first load the program and then it just stops and sits and never does anything again until I restart the program, at which point I can watch another ten seconds of a show and have it stop again.
Changing shows after it freezes just leaves me at the "Coming Next" screen with the pretty colors buzzing around in the background.

Thank you, Ed.
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
Okay... installed and played around with it on my home computer and here it works great!
On my work laptop I get the Breakpoint bug.
Home system 4 year old Dell XPS Gen 2, 3.4Ghz HT w 2 gigs Ram.
Work system 1 year old Dell Latitude D620, T2500 w 1 gig Ram.
It seems, from searching the forums, that the breakpoint bug happens to a lot of D620s, so maybe there is a hardware issue there.
This program seems to have a lot of potential! One thing I've noticed so far... the commercial breaks seem to be at a LOWER volume than the programs, and so far consist of only one commercial. I like this!
EDIT Captain's Log, Supplemental.... The Gamestar channel seems to be hot buttered crap. "Top 5 tracks in a Hummer racing game? Who Cares?"

Just check out Joost for the first time. I have to say if the library of shows available continues to grow, this could be impressive. I would never be willing to pay for it. The site does say it is paid for by advertising, so I can't imagine that it will be a paid service anytime soon.

Anyone give a review/comparison of Joost versus Miro?
The copyfighters over at boing boing are plugging Miro heavily over Joost, for all the predictable reasons. The Miro folks have a snazzy graphical comparison up as well.
Any real-world comparisons?

I haven't tried Miro, but I thought the idea of Joost was incredibly cool.
Only downside? I used it once, then forgot about it completely. It's not something that really integrates itself well into my life. If I had a media center PC ( a Mac Mini ) then it would probably kick all sorts of ass for that.
As is? I don't.
