Hot Fuzz

Caught it last night, and it's awesome sauce. I think it's actually better than Shaun of the Dead because there's none of that Romantic Comedy stuff to pull it down. It's actually quite strong from front to back, wonderfully ridiculous in places, and has some fantastic shout-outs to other action flicks.
Most importantly, it's not just some crappy "Epic Movie"-style spoof. It's a spoof, but it's a loving spoof, and it comes out wonderfully. Absolutely worth seeing.

Seeing it tonight. Now I'm all..excited.
Well, I don't like to toot my own horn, but I'm a pretty good amateur rectal photographer. Would you like to see my portfolio?

Please for the love of whatever God you worship, see this movie if it's showing in a theater around you, so maybe I'll actually get to see it (as it is not currently playing within a one hour drive of my town.)
That is all.

Better than SotD?! Okay, now I have to see it. ... However, for the sake of accuracy, now I wish I could see it. :/

It was really, really, really good. I'm probably going to see it again.

Glad to hear it was good....I was really scared that it might suffer from the "Indie Comedic Filmmakers create comic genius followed shortly by pure garbage" syndrome exemplified by Broken Lizard's Super Troopers/Club Dread fiasco.
Can't wait.

I disagree that it was better than SOTD... in fact, this movie really got to be a slog in places.
The buddy picture parts were very enjoyable, although the bafflingly gruesome murders really feel out of place... i'm still having nightmares about the "church" death. The big action finale, when it comes, is too much for too long, edited too damn fast.
All told, if you have liked Spaced and SOTD and other stuff by the same team, I think you at least have to see this one. Still, it wasn't as enjoyable or as fresh as the previously mentioned works.
I'd probably give it a *** out of *****

See, I found SOTD to have gotten really, painfully slow halfway through, while this kept a fast, hilarious pace. The murders didn't phase me because they were ridiculous, as was the general premise. Everything about action movies is over-the-top, so the deaths were as well. And the final action sequence reflected that pretty well too.
Basically, I laughed during SOTD. I nearly fell out of my seat watching Hot Fuzz. And I didn't have to sit through an section about bickering couples or a dying mother/stepfather.

I hope this one doesn't suffer from the fate of Shaun Of The Dead, the last half an hour of which was completely different in tone from the rest of the film, and generally sucked.
This thread does not scale to my level.
I wouldn't say that was the case. The tone is slightly different in the end, but I was totally entertained in different ways throughout. I'd completely agree about the last while in Shaun of the Dead being sucky too.

More than just about anything else, humor (or in this case, "humour") is very subjective. For me, the opening scenes in HOT FUZZ were pretty slow and not all that funny. When Angel gets to the village, and we begin the "fish out of water" and the "buddy picture" portions, I think the movie comes alive-- it's funny, Pegg and Frost's chemistry shines through... even the police "service" in the town is full of wacky characters (I could imagine a britcom set in that location). The conspiracy is a bit "Scooby-Doo" for my tastes, but I can live with that...
Really, I think the movie is just too long. The big "high noon" sequence seems to go on forever, and then, like RETURN OF THE KING, the ending KEEPS going on...and on... and on. Well, I exaggerate. But it could have used some trimming.
Walking out, my feelings were that I had a good time and was entertained, but I'm in no big rush to see it again.

I loved it. I think it was a little better than Shaun, it kept the momentum up a little better although yes, it was probably a little long. I can't really think of any scenes I'd want to cut though...
It does change, but unlike Shaun where it changes during the final act, Hot Fuzz changes tone slightly with each act. Act 1 is a small British town comedy, silly and sweet, act 2 is a slasher film with a couple jumps and some very (surprisingly) gruesome deaths and then act 3 blows up into the big action movie finale. Unlike Shaun though, I think Hot Fuzz stays funny (and even gets funnier) as the it goes on, which makes it much more satisfying.

Just watched this and had a great time. Laughed out loud during many moments, and came out of it with a smile.
Rezzy gives it two thumbs up and a promise to buy the DVD once it hits.

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I liked it so much that I went twice this weekend. I'd have to say that my favorite character was the grocery store owner played by Timothy Dalton.

I went and saw this last weekend, and really enjoyed it. They really hit the nail on the head. Certainly better than Shaun of the Dead.
