I expect soon the entire GH1 library will be out. But since I own both on the PS2, I still can't bring myself to upgrade - even knowing that future harmonix games may be next-gen only.

maybe I will. Or maybe I won't. but I want to. but I shouldn't. but it's so cool.

Mega,
If I were you I'd wait until they stop releasing the games on the PS2, as long as it being in HD isn't a big deal to you (I guess you can add achievements to that too). The PS2 versions will likely be cheaper and you already have the controllers.

yeah, I am a bit of an achivement Ho Fo Sho, (despite my middling 9945 points...) but I can probably contain myself for the time being. Probably. Though containing myself has never been one of my strong suits. Being a Guitar Hero isn't about containing yourself. I may yet deploy my Star Power by deploying my credit card at Best Buy.

and then deploying poverty power immediately thereafter.

Nice first set and if the rumored price of 150 points is true, its really a no-brainer in my book.

150 points for 9 songs? That sounds more than reasonable.

Wow, they managed to hit several of my GH1 G-spots with that list. Bark at the Moon, Frankenstein, Ace of Spades, hell, even Take it Off were all on my wishlist for the first download. The only track that I *really* wanted to see on that list that's not included is Crossroads. I loved playing that one in GH1.

I dont know if they mean 150 points per song or per 9 song pack... although I think per song would be outrageous. It would cost you over $100 to buy all the songs from GH2 individually.

When you account for licensing costs and greed, 150 points per song doesn't really seem all that surprising. I'm sure they'll have a package deal that is a bit more reasonable, but I expect that they will milk this thing for all it's worth.

well, not to be patronizing, but Get used to it... Welcome to the XBL Marketplace, home to avatars and wallpaper that large corporations charge you for, paying a ten dollar fee for changing your name, (which I might add, is not your REAL name) and games that ship incompletely, so they can charge you for game content after the fact.

Good thing I made my money in the smartass platitudes market years ago, or I'd be up the creek.

Hmm, do they include the Coop "Bass/Guitar"? That's worth it...

But as much as I love it, I'll wait for the Guitar Hero 3 announcement for the Wii.

No, don't get used to it. Don't buy it. The prices for these little things like avatars, themes, etc. have been going down as they realized their initial price point was way too high. There's no reason to accept high prices. We can't cry rape if we're grabbing our ankles.

That's true. But as much as I decry it, I have a chemical addiction to buying this stuff. I'm part of the problem.

I have to get the wallpaper for whatever game I'm currently playing, I need to freshen my avatar almost weekly, and this is my third name change on XBL. In short, I grew up to be everything microsoft had hoped for... the fanatical consumer. I need help. Not only am I being raped but I've handed my corporate assailant a tube of lubricant and the keys to my chastity belt.

and I'm not nearly alone. but hopefully I'm still in the mionority. um... fight the power.

dammit, I'm a walking hypocriguy.

I'm not sure what difference playing GH on the Wii would be. I'd assume you wouldn't be using the Wiimote, anyway. Harmonix would still probably put a proper guitar in your hand, (itherwise, what's the point - it's supposed to simulate real playing) but it may have more motion-sensing ability somehow.

I don't know, I'm no scientist. Batman's a scientist.

Don't buy it if it's not worth it to you.

When I'm a BIG fan of a game, I love being able to buy additional content for a game instead of having to wait for the next version.

Fans of a game fall on a spectrum, from hardcore "best game evar!" to people that just kinda play and like the game. A downloadable content price point is a threshold on that spectrum. The people higher on the spectrum find it worth it, the people below don't. Sometimes I'm on one side of that, sometimes I'm on the other.

Some gamers (not necessarily anyone in this thread, but some gamers) have this entitlement complex, where they think all content should be priced for them. This is, of course, hopelessly self-centered. Then there's the people who get indignant about paying for extra content at all. Too bad for them, that's their problem.

Content is overpriced based on if the seller doesn't sell enough of that content to make it worth having produced. Danjo, you make a perfect point on avatars and themes. Not enough people were buying, so prices drop.

For me, if these GH songs are 150 points apiece, I will pick and choose a select few. If they are 150 in packs, I'll probably gobble up all the packs.

Exactly. I didn't mean to say that noone should be buying these things. If the personal value of a product is greater than or equal to the price, by all means go ahead. My main point was that we don't have to just "get used to" what we perceive as high prices because the almighty Microsoft demands it.

I just did a quick and dirty calculation... 1 Microsoft point is $.014 CDN ($20/1400 right?), so a pack of 3 songs is going to cost me $7 CDN. That means that if they release all the original, non-extra Guitar Hero tracks with the same model it's gonna cost me $70 CDN. That's only $10 cheaper than just outright buying Guitar Hero all over again

500 points for 3 songs is even worse than the intolerable pricing of 150 points for 1 song, so let's hope it's something else.

I've got GH1 and 2 for the PS2 as well as 2 guitars, but am considering going 360 for achievments and DLC. If the price on DLC is terrible, though, they can forget it.

With or without the guitar? It would make sense to me if it was slightly cheaper than the 'without the guitar' version...

Is this confirmed? As of last night around midnight it was not up...

I loves me some GH1 tracks... maybe even more than I hate 'micro-transactions'... but they've got to be the right price.

EDIT- UGH... it IS 500pts (or $6.25 per pack!!)

It would be slightly better if it was $2 per song, and only slightly because I wouldn't have to pay $6 for that 1 song I'm looking for...

Why can't they be more like iTunes pricing?!

I want Hey You, Infected, and Killer Queen... Can I make my own 3 song pack?!

That's brutal, 500 points for 3 songs seems way out of my range, now if it was 800 points for all 9 songs than I might see myself doing something like that but I cannot justify 500 pts for 3 songs.

That pricing is utterly ridiculous. I had intended to download these as soon as they were available. Now I think I'll wait to get my money's worth from the GH2 track list and see if the price doesn't come down a little if the initial reaction is lukewarm.

Boy, I think that's pricing a lot of people out of the market. I kind of wonder if they'll do a repackaging later to drive in the less fanatical customer-- something like 1,000 points for all three packs. As it stands, unless my friends really want these songs, it's hard to see me paying that much. I have a stingy reputation to uphold, after all.

That's right where I am too. In fact it looks like I sold my PS2 stuff as someone is supposed to pick it up today. I was really hoping to consolidate all the songs onto one game.

Has it been confirmed that the GH1 rereleases are reworked for GH2-360 to include the alternate parts (rhythm and bass)?

For $2 a song, they better have the alternate parts along with a plate of caviar included...

Is this DLC tied to the Xbox Live account or the Xbox360 that it's downloaded onto? I'm 100% not going to buy these overpriced tracks if a 360 failure erases my songs. As is, I'm in wait and see mode... maybe the internet outrage will lower the prices on future releases, or maybe fools rush in and encourage M$ to keep on charging ludicrous prices....

500 points for 3 songs? Man, that just killed my interest for a while. I had thought that 150 for 9 would be way too cheap, and would have been pretty satisfied with around $1/song. Hopefully these prices will drop, because as much as I'd like to play some Bad Religion, I don't think I want to drop 500 points on it (and two other songs).
