For the WoW folks: What's your UI setup like?
So, I like mods. I use a lot of them. As such, I'm always on the lookout for the new hotness. Currently, I've got a handful of stuff leftover from the days of yore, with a handful of new hotness. I've settled into an Ace2 setup, consisting of the following:
Bartender3 - I've used most bar mods out there; this one suits me best. It strips out all the Blizzard fluff, and leaves behind scaleable buttons. It doesn't play well with a pet bar, but if you can move stuff around, that's dealt with easily.
Cartographer - I also think of this as the Farmer's Dream. It tracks nodes, chests, flight paths, and other locations on your map. There's a way to setup way points and track the locations of quest givers, but I haven't figured that out yet.
AG Unit Frames - It's a lot like Perl Unit Frames, except I think it's got a smaller memory footprint and is a bit easier to use.
Nature Enemy Cast Bar - Since I use a unit frame mod, Blizzard's cast bars don't work. This is a nice substitute that tracks party member's cooldowns and timers as well.
Deadly Boss Mods - I still use this for BG timers, but I currently have little other use for it. For those of you that raid, this mod can trivialize timing on most encounters.
SW Stats - For the theorycrafter in me. I don't care what place I'm in on the charts, but can I do better while generating the same or less threat? Was that weapon I just equipped really an upgrade, or did my performance suffer? IMO, that's where the real value is.
ItemRack - I have a slew of alts, and only one that uses this. But, for that one character, it's worth it. I mean, does anyone honestly like having to click each and every piece of gear to swap a gear set out? I don't.
Postal - No, this isn't a mod describing my personality.
It's the new version of GMail, which I liked better than CTMail, mainly because I couldn't get CTMail to work, no matter where I downloaded it from. Does MassMail, Alt clicking items to send, and it autocompletes names out of your friend list and guild list. IMO, it makes bank toons easy to deal with.
FuBar - I like having lots of info at hand; this one does that. Coordinates, recommended zones for leveling alts, drop down quest tracking, you name it, and there's probably a plug in for it. For panel mods, this one takes the cake.
Auctioneer - Because I sell lots of things on the AH and am far, far too lazy to manually fill in the information for every item when I'm tossing a dozen or more identical, or nearly identical items on the AH.
vBagnon - All in one bag mod, sorts by item type. You can even limit the bags shown.
So that's me and the mods(or at least functionality) I don't think I could live without. Anything some others like that I don't have? Alternates to some of the stuff I use? Stuff that works better than this?

Believe it or not, I still just use the vanilla built-in UI. I occasionally go out and get something like Gatherer, Atlas / Cartographer, etc... but for the most part, I'm fine with what's already there.
I do need to get Auctioneer / Enchantrix, though. Knowing what something is likely to DE into would be handy.
Skriss: lvl 70 undead mage - Bloodhoof
Kyrator: lvl 63 night elf rogue - Blackhand
Thadryn: lvl 70 draenei mage - Blackhand
I use part of the Mirage compilation. Auctioneer, the coordinates mod, the map mod, WIM, Quest Announce. Probably one or two other things. There's a lot of Mirage I don't use though.
I've found that a number of UI improvements are built into the core UI, and simply need to be enabled. Things like extra toolbars and displaying what your target is casting.

After seeing Gameguru's screenshots of the x-perl frame mod in action... i installed it last week. I toned down the amount of info a bit, went with solid textures for health / mana bars and stretched the party window/my own info to make it easier to see.
Its really a fantastic new toy and it is saving my healing eyes bigtime already. With the standard UI, my eyes would get so fatigued as the night wore on... stretching out the party window so i have larger health / mana bars has made a noticeable difference.

I used to use ArcHud, but haven't in a while for some reason. As to the vanilla UI, I use some of it over mods now; SCT is a big one. With button bars though, I just don't like how spaced out it is.

This is my Hunter's UI, which I think I got PERFECT.
I haven't gotten my main's UI that good. Yet.
A reply from other forum when someone asked me about what stuff was.

I'm still looking for a decent UI that will pop up in big letters when my various 2 min cooldowns are up.. (Death Wish, Bladefists Breadth, Blood Fury)

So, seeing as I use a handful of the same mods, where would I go about finding this WoW Ace updater? The idea of having a program to update my mods is very appealing.

I might have to go pick this one up. Everything seems like side-grades to me, so I'm never sure if I'm hurting my character by switching her equipment.
IronClad Online: PurEvil
Ah, sidegrades, how do I love thee. I've found that to be much the same issue with my Shaman. With my enhancement gear, I quickly approached a point, probably around 63-64, where nothing was an explicit upgrade. It's slowly going back the other way now that I'm picking up Desolation gear.
Oh, and there was one other that I left out of the original list: KTM. It's a threat meter, and a pretty good one at that. I haven't looked at it in a while, and last I checked they were working on updating it for the changed to bear tanks, but if you can get everyone you group with using it, it's pretty good stuff. Like CastBars and Deadly Boss Mods, it's pretty good at dampening the learning curve. It's also pretty good for those who like to push the envelope as far and hard as they can.

Hey GG
Bumpie uses the default WOW interface scrolling combat text and I get messages every time my trinkets are refrehsed and ready to use again. Im not sure how it works with talents like your death wish, but in cat form I know i get warnings when my Bladefists Breadth is up. Im at work so I cant check what features I have checked or unchecked from the WoW default SCT, but catch me in game some time if you want to know.
As far as UI stuff goes, I cant live without Classic Perl Unit Frames, Item Rack and KLH ThreatMeter. I use Fubar with various plugins for my character info and I flip back and forth between Bongos and Bartender for my bar mods. Currently using Bartender 3.

yeah weird.. I dont see an option for it under SCT or SCTD.. perhaps I'll go back to WoW's default sct.

Ducki - Thanks for that post, that UI looks terrific! I've been reasonably happy with Bongos, but I may give those a try.

So I was thinking.. has anyone found a comparable replacement for Call of Elements? For those unfamiliar with it, it's a Shaman specific mod, lets you set up totem sets, and drop them, one totem at a time, with a mouse click. It was pretty cool stuff, had a timer and eveything. I'd even settle for something that replicates the auto-bar with timers on it.
Coldstream wrote:
Dead stock, save for CT Raid. The stock UI ain't broken, so why fix it?
AnimeJ,
You do know that Call of Elements does still work right? I still use it but there are others mods out there such at Totemus. If you've ever used Necrosis then Totemus will look very similar.
I like CoE because it will allow you to drop specific sets so you can set up a melee grouping or a caster grouping.
At last check:
CTMod (except for the horrifying Buffmod)
X-Perl Classic Frames
TitanPanel
Atlas & AtlasLoot Enhanced
NatureEnemy Castbars
Itemrack
Quickmount Equip
SW Stats
KLH Threatmeter
I've tried to use CoE since 'Before the Storm' on several occasions; it never works properly. I've been through all the config stuff, no dice. So, I'm looking for a replacement. Not to mention that they can't/haven't/won't reimplement the timers on the totems themselves.
If this has been fixed in the last few weeks, then I'll be willing to give it another go-round, but I've tried it a few times since Blizzard broke everything to no avail.
It's not a matter of fixing anything. I'm at work, and am obviously incapable of posting a screen of my UI. I'll do so later on when I can.
Personally, I'm not terribly a huge fan of Blizzard's default UI. There's a large lack of information there; things like rating>percentage conversions, DPS stats, what exactly are my total bonuses from items? Not to mention that I can't stand the enormous amount of real estate Blizzards button bars take up. Tack in the fact that their buff display kinda sucks too. And while their cast bars are nice, and work.. well, I can't say I'm a huge fan of the lack of info there, too.
All in all, I just like bigger better faster more.
Oh, and yet another AddOn I didn't include: RatingsBuster. Converts combat ratings to percentages based on your current level.

I got tired of these interfaces getting broken every time a new patch came out. So now I do vanilla with a few simple add ons (cartographer, auctioneer)
Is the patching breaking still the case and if so how do you heavy modders deal with it? Just wait until the new version comes out?
Cyrana Mage 79 ~ Artesia Druid 70
Cyranna Shaman 62 ~ Acereri - DK 61 ~ Artasian - Priest 59 ~ Lenna - Rogue 60
Nope! Blizzard did a really good thing a while back, they added a 'Load out of date Addons' button in the Addon menu. So on patch day, as long as the mod is compatible, click that and you're golden. Plus, with the majority of mods used being based on Ace2, it's even less of an issue. I update my addons about every other patch, personally. YMMV.
Coldstream wrote:
Yeah, Richy, go to wowinterface.com -> downloads and they have a "Special" section on the left. Go to Ace Mods and go nuts. Then go to the link above to get the updater.
One thing to note about the updater : it downloads from the latest release of a given mod, which may or may not be beta.
I run the Updater about every time I think about it. It is just too easy. Start the Updater, F4, F12, OK. Done.
For me, mods ARE about fixing the UI. Ugh, what a beast. One of the things that any future MMO is going to HAVE to do to draw me away, or even get me to pay for, it to have a UI as customizable as WoW. I think it's part of why they have 8 million subs. The fact that they've harnessed this vast community of coders and designers to make their UI better was a stroke of brilliance. It's extra subs, it's free ideas they can steal and implement at will(which they've done) and it makes for a better UI which keeps the non-UI-mod-writing subs even happier.
In fact, if I had to point to a single factor of WoW's success, it'd be the moddable UI coupled with the openness and communication they have with mod authors.

I used to run Cosmos. Then I switched to Insomn....
Now, I run MazzleUI -- a one stop shop for me. Also turned the Jayavarman and agsrfr1 onto it.
Here is a link to the download page. I highly recommend it, but you will need to increase the font size (the readme file details how).

http://www.themook.net/mookui/ is another good compilation that I was about willing to give in and use a compilation - but I found the WoWAce Updater first.
Still, this is a great compilation.

I gave Mazzle a try, but there were a couple things I found lacking in it. All in all, Mazzle has done an outstanding job, but there's a couple things that I think should go. Like the Mazzlegasm.

AnimeJ, I don't know if you're still looking for a CoE replacement, but I just started using Yata this morning and have been really pleased with it. It replicates pretty much all the functionality that I used CoE for. I don't like the totem timers they offer quite as much, but that's my only gripe.
For reference, I found Totemus to be unwieldy and I hated it.
