Final Fantasy to Sony: I want to see other people
Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 - 9:24am
Looks like Sony's one sure-fire ace in the hole isn't so sure-fire any more. If Final Fantasy goes multiplatform, I think that'll pretty much be it for the PS3. The only exclusive of any interest it'll have left is Ninja Gaiden Sigma; a remake of an XBox 1 game. And it's not like a console switch is unprecedented for Final Fantasy, which started on the Nintendo.
Wouldn't it be funny if the legendary FF7 remake turned out to be an X360 exclusive?

If Final Fantasy will be released on Xbox 360... there is pretty much no hope for Sony selling me a $600 box. At $400... I might consider it, since there are still few titles that I'm looking forward to.

I won't be holding my breath, but it is surprising to hear any language even hinting that it might not be an iron clad exclusive yet. If I were Sony, I'd pay quite a bit to make sure FF stays exclusive, but I'd love to have it on the 360. FF is perhaps the only thing that I'm interested in the PS3 for.

And if I were Microsoft, I would pay even more money to get it for my system too.

Good point. It would be quite the coup if MS could leverage things and get the FF on the 360.

My heart certainly skipped a beat when I read this news. It was the first time that the possibility of not eventually buying a PS3 dawned on me, and it felt a bit strange.
The smart odds still have me buying one by the end of the year, though.

I would be shocked to see Final Fantasy over on the 360, I actually really doubt it, I just don't see it happening, I mean anything could happen but this is on the point of I doubt it will ever happen.
We will see.

I'm yet to see anything of interest on X360, let alone on PS3, except for FF series. Maybe BlueDragon for X360, but thats it. I'm quite happy with PS2/DS and a PC... Unless one of consoles start to put out some serious J-RPG stuff - i'm not interested. But knowing, that FFXIII may be coming to X360 cant be a bad thing, considering a price of sony's next-gen flop.
For now, i'd really like to see HALO2 and 3 on PC...

This game is about the only reason we still discuss the PS3 as a "far off" option in my house. FFXIII on the 360 would make our heads explode.
BTW, remember that April is almost here.

FF going to 360 would drive home two nails for me: Eventual purchase of a 360 and the no chance I'll ever buy a PS3. It's pretty slim now, but if MGS4 is the only PS3 exclusive, then I'm not likely to pick one up.

I dare not even think about this. I'm with Zero, and that would definately change a lot of variables in my "when to buy a PS3" equation.

SquarEnix have stated before that it's in their own best interest to have multiple major platforms out there. I'd predict a three-pronged release between PS3, 360, and Games for Windows.

Yea right, and monkeys might fly out of my ass. If this does happen I will eat my words and stick some monkeys up there just to have them fly out.

Yup. If FF went multi, the only thing that could bring me to PS3 is Ratchet & Clank/Sly Cooper.

There's already an FF game in the works for the Wii, isn't there? I don't think this sounds as far fetched as you think. I mean, how many millions of dollars will the next FF game cost?
Do you think they'll recoup it with the weak ass sales of the PS3 so far?

...especially when they are developing like 6 Final Fantasy titles at same time!

Yeah, a Crystal Chronicles game - which, I feel, can't truly be called proper Final Fantasy games.

The FF franchise has always had its fair share of bastard offspring. Some of them - see FF Tactics - surpassing the 'serious' series.
Actually, that prediction is based on a fairly conservative risk minimization scenario: SquarEnix have diversified significantly over the last few years. Seeing this, I assume that their statements indicating that they have no interest in binding their top franchises to a single platform is more than them playing hard to get.
Accepting all this, it's only sensible to assume that they will try to recoup their development cost in as many alleys as possible, and assuming that FF XIII will be too much for the Wii, that leaves PS3, 360, and PC.
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.
Unless they restart development.
I think Sony will pony up the marketing support to keep this game exclusive. I don't think we'll see FFXIV on PS3.

it's definitely possible not to see FFXIV exclusively on PS3 especailly with SE licensing the Unreal engine, I could see FFXIV being multi-platform

This is all funny because right now the RPG lineup on the 360 is way better than the PS3, except for Final Fantasy. I'm sure there are plenty of PS3-only RPGs in the works over in Japan, but right now the 360 looks really really good.

White Knight Story looked sh*t hot, but then again that could have been another Killzone sort of deal.

The last thing I heard about White Knight Story was that its creator was boasting that the White Knight Engine was multi-platform... can't seem to find the story at this moment though.

Here's my prediction: it'll be Nintendo systems to benefit the most from the status quo. It's a really tricky situation for Japanese developers these days. The successor to the platform everyone was relying on in the past generation is unlikely to close the gap to its direct competitor anytime in the next 20 months. And due to the growth of the North-American and European market, Japan's not as important as it used to be. (Just for reference: Sony shipped pretty much twice the amount of PS2s in Europe and in NA respectively.)
The PS3 at this point is quite an underperformer in its home market, but the 360 isn't likely to take the place of the PS2 either - even if it were to receive more JPRGs. So, which systems are selling incredibly well in all regions? Yep, the DS and Wii. And not only do they sell well, the lower development costs make it less risky to develop a game. DQ9 for DS might be only the beginning of a trend, I wouldn't be surprised if more companies will consider that strategy.
I hope you take pics! ^_^

You guys are acting like it IS going to happen. This has about the same chance of happening as Sony giving away hdtv's with a PS3...... nevermind.
