Great show. Since i started listening to these podcasts i realised how much i've missed good radio... it's a shame GWJ doesn't have more podcasts each week - though the length is perfect.
Bravo!

I really like the new Gameguru segments. That man speaks with authority. I have visions of him beating the life out of Leo Laporte, and I like Leo.

Well, I don't like to toot my own horn, but I'm a pretty good amateur rectal photographer. Would you like to see my portfolio?

Leo would go down in one punch. He's a softy. And guys, from the bottom of my heart, my work day has 200% less suck every Wednesday because of you.

What's a Tag?

Good show. I think the universal platform would be sweet.

It would have been killer if my console played 360, PS3 and Wii games.

IT's a bit funny how we get annoyed at competing video standards like HD-DVD and BluRay, but don't care about competing vidgame standards or having to buy more than one machine to catch the best of all videogames.

I see alot of win wins there for consumers and game developers and consumer electronics manufacturers.

The losers would be the companies that would have owned the videogame market.

So long as I can mod and upgrade it, I don't mind the idea of all computers, consoles, DVD players, etc being based on the same platform.

LOTRO - Low-ter-o? Heavens to Mergatroyd, guys. Oh, and the first one who breaks into "The Road Goes Ever On" is gonna get such a pinch.

Oh, and thanks for the "sock sucker". We're working on a list of disparaging terms that are properly emphatic but safe for little ears, and that has a nice flow to it.

MMORPG - I hear you on the tired.

Crackdown - I would rather chew broken glass. Thus sayeth the person who got into the Halo 3 beta some other way ....

Wii Play - Dude, that's Duck Hunt. Without the farkin' dog. That's worth 10 bucks right there! Oh, and my local video store has it for rental. You might want to check yours.

Rabbids - It's all about delivering the bomb. And cow tossing.

Game Tastes - Don't let 'em give you crap, Rob. Having the same taste in games as a three-year-old is a good thing.

GameGuru - Vista drivers are still beta? This is nuts! And I want the Win2k classic Start menu.

And people wonder why my company is still running Win2K except for test machines.

Industry Blowhard - Maybe not one basic console, but one standard.

There are always going to be exclusives as long as we have different hardware manufacturers. Otherwise, they'll never have any leverage to make you buy their specific hardware.

An interim step you guys haven't mentioned is bridging systems that allow all the various game hardware to all play together. Case in point Final Fantasy XI. We've got three different manufacturers all talking to the same central system using a cross-platform developed game.

Yes, they could definately have chosen a better game. And the system has issues (don't get me started on PlayOnline). But if someone could negotiate the minefield and come up with a standard protocol that would be an initial step.

I didn't say it was easy, or simple. But it is possible, and for most gamers would definately be a positive point.

Emails:

Conferences: I'm going to PAX, Sakuracon, and possibly Emerald City ComicCon. Come on Rob - a large percentage of the PAX staff is from Canada. It's not on the moon.

CimmerianGrammarian: Question for the room. Are the two versions separate? I thought they played together. And yes, I'm so with you on the keyboard thing. Apparently you can get some aftermarket hardware to hook a USB keyboard up to the thing but I haven't gotten one yet. This may get me to do it.

Achievement Lady-of-Negotiable-Virtue?: Nope. Not here either.

Typicality: That's an awfully big butt. An awfully big basement-dwelling butt. I hope this Mike isn't who I'm afraid he is, though. Judging by the language now, prolly not.

I really like when you have Gameguru on, eventhough I have very little use for the topics he has handeled so far - I have never even considered buying Vista and I can't be bothered with top of the line hardware. I think it amounts to the fact that he handles the task set before him expertly and deliveres the information needed with little fuzz, which I can't say about the hardware enthusiasts I am surrounded by in my daily life.
