It's been nearly ten years since Chris Taylor released Total Annihiliation onto the PC gaming landscape. The game would go on to become a critical success and fan favorite, though it has never received what one might call a proper sequel. This week's Game of the Week is that long lost sequel in everything but name, evoking Total Annihiliation from the game's setting to style to the very box art. Supreme Commander for the PC is this week's Game of the Week, an easy choice.

I already have Crackdown, and I want Supreme Commander (hopefully it'll run on my rig). However, Izuna for the DS has been one of those "huh?" games I've been following for a while so I'm picking her up as well.
Yet even then we ran like the wind,

I've been playing the demo for Supreme Commander and it's pretty brutal. I just upgraded to a 7600GT for my video card but my Athlon 3200XP is getting crushed whenever I get up past 300 units or a big firefight. I <3 plotting trajectories for every volley, but I'll be sad if I have to start picking units just because they fire fewer rounds per second.

I was really looking forward to Supreme Commander but the demo makes my desktop and my equally powerful laptop both cry like little girls. I was hoping for a tax refund that woudl let me upgrade my desktop but it doesn't look like that's coming so I'll have to put a pin in it for a few months I think. However, one game everyone should check out is War Front Turning Point. I played the demo recently and was very pleasantly surprised. It's a WWII RTS done by Digital Reality who have done a ton of great RTS titles. It is a WWII game but plays very well and has a number of neat and unique mechanics (though no destructible buildings like Company of Heroes.) It also looks good but runs good on older systems. If you are into RTS games, check out the demo.

I think that's all the basics you need to know. Will my computer cry when I try to install the game? I just upgraded the damn thing last summer so I was hoping it would run most things for a while to come.

Cry no? Wince in pain maybe. Mine is an AthlonXP 2800+ with 2GB Dual Channel and a RADEON X800XL. Definitely not as good as your system but from what I've heard anything less than a Core 2 Duo and 7900 won't run this game much beyond low detail.

Supreme Commander will be mine. Been playing the demo and while not perfect, is tons o' fun. Easily worth my few bucks, especially since I have a huge credit at EB Games anyway. Any successor to Total Annihilation, spiritual or not, WILL get my dollars!

Another vote for Crackdown.
The Supreme Commander demo ran poorly and the gameplay seemed tedious.
The Crackdown demo was pure joy.
Gee, this is the first time I've ever felt invested in a Game of the Week choice, or felt that it was totally off base.
This is the game we play with Elysium. You win.
I believe time will tell if Supreme Commander dies faster than Crackdown. My vote for Crackdown, of course. I played Supreme Commander 10 years ago. It was called 128MB maps.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
Any word on Izuna? There are no reviews so far, but me hungry for quirky RPGs.

Izuna looks fairly interesting. However, it hasn't gotten great ratings so far (6.5 of 10 from both Nintendo Power and Play Magazine).

Though the RTS lover in me agrees with the selection of Supreme Commander as the Game of the Week, I was hoping for a little more reasoning behind the choice. Granted, I've already bought the game thus require no convincing, I still enjoy hearing others' opinions.
And Vrikk you should be okay. Luckily there are a lot of different video options you can set to tailor make the game to your rig. I personally haven't gotten up around the 300 unit mark, but after Negman mentioned it, I'm curious now. Of course, there's always the option of installing the demo and seeing if it treats your computer like the proverbial red headed stepchild or not.
