WoW: The New Hunter
When I left the states, I had a NE hunter that I messed around with but found little to hold my interest. The skills left me cold and the talent trees were bland and uninteresting.
Wow... has that all changed! One of my troopies here pointed out some of the new talents to me and how the dynamic of your toon's stats effecting your pet's stats. I also enjoy hunting for different pets to train me new pet skills and abilities. He also showed me on his level 44 toon how he can now solo a 51 mob and how he beat two 48's and a 49 at the same time. My jaw hit the floor.
I'm now running up a NE hunter and at 13 I'm soloing level 17 mobs no problem. And my equipment? I have a 2H sword at 7.1 DPS requiring clvl 5. And my bow? A white. Why? Because I neither want nor need to upgrade. I'm too busy playing the game for once.
My pet has over 320hp and I have about about 280hp. He does insane damage between his Bite and Claw. I'm currently obsessed with Petopia and Good Intentions hunting down different pets and different pet skills.
With some of the new talents being extremely party friendly, people would be foolish to keep Hunters out of raids and instances.
If you haven't tried one yet, do a little research on pets and how to gain new abilities and you might find some good stuff to play around with.

I was always impressed with how well Hunters could solo, and now they just plain roll over anything in their path. Mine is only 20, yet I see consistent results with level 60+ hunters as well. I also like that I had a hard time picking a talent spec, since they all looked potent.
I ended up going with Beast Mastery, although I do plan to put some points into Marksmanship. Zero complaints here.

I'll have to try a hunter sometime just for the fun of it; the variety of pets & skills really appeals to me.
Hunters definitely got a boost with 2.0. I haven't really played my lvl 30 NE hunter much, but from fighting them in PvP on my mage... there's not much point in even trying. If I survive long enough to hit ice block, all I've done is delayed the inevitable, and wasted a cooldown in the process.

Oh sure... you get me hooked on tanking and playing a warrior, and you go and have fun playing my beloved hunter class... damn you REAP!

Ditto. Although I feel they get really boring in an instance and/or raid, because you just sit in one spot and shoot. PvP and especially PvE is where its at. The best solo class in WoW.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

Just wait till you try out the dragonhawk pet in the BE newb area. It gets a fire breath skill that does cone area of effect damage and it increases with level so you dont have to hunt around for a level 16,24,32 version of the mob to get the next version of the skill.

My main is a 70 hunter on The Scryers (one of the new servers that I got a free transfer from Silver Hand). I am a notorious alt fanatic as over the past few years I have lvled one of every class except shaman to 60 in beta and then full release. My hunter was the last one I lvled and to tell you the truth, I don't think I'll be returning to any of them now that BC has raised the cap to 70. Some of this has to do with a lesser amount of playtime I have now, but much of it has to do with my being spoiled at the sheer simplicity of leveling with my hunter. I cut through mobs like a hot knife through butter, rarely if ever having to stop for drinking or eating. My hunter is beast spec which makes my Ravager a beast of a tank with over 14k armor. One tip I have for aspiring hunter is make sure your grinding pet has some sort of dash or dive. That way you don't have to wait the few seconds for your pet to run over to the mob and gain agro.

Wow - can you detail how you achieve this?. I've struggled to get 7.5k on mine, even with talents. Is level 70 equipment that much more substantial on armor?

Nerf hunters!
Seriously, I'm totally happy with my Shaman. I do enjoy the hunter I rolled, but still, Horde Shaman is the best.

This isn't true any more once you hit 70. Freeze trap is viable crowd control now you can drop it in combat, and I've chain frozen guys in big pulls a bunch of times. Also, Misdirection pulls are absolutely fantastic in instances.
The fights in the burning crusade instances seem to be more dynamic too, less chances to just stand in one spot.
i actually dont like my hunter as much as i did as a lvl 60...even with lvl 70 blue items, my attack power and crit chance are way below what it was way back when. i currently have 18% crit and 1400(ish) unbuffed attack power. when i was a 60, it was 34% crit and 1600 AP :/
I do like the new pets though and silencing shot (my dps pet has 12k armor). I can annialate a lvl 65 elte mob in an instance before it makes it to me on a pull to a trap (seems i never have time to use it as they are usually dead)
as far as armor for your pet, it is based off your agility. not sure how much it adds, but with 560 agility, my pet gets a pretty good buff.
I was a Marks Hunter pre 2.0 and I am still one now and all I can say is wow. I have been able to do so much more damage now. I even kited one of those red golem things in Hellfire Peninsula and was able to kill it without taking one hit. With some of the new skills/talents I don't have to stop to drink, I can just keep on killing and with that Rapid Killing ability I get a auto crit my opening shot. I love it. Pop Aspect of the Viper which regens 25% of your INT every 5 sec and you have your very own Pally buff. In raids now I am never having to stop and setting up the next pull. The Hunter class has had new life breathed into it and I am very thankful for that. I can stomp most other classes in PvP except a lock. For some odd reason I may kill him but with all the DoTs on me I will also die in the process. But I can at least make their life hell with the new Snake Trap coupled with Silencing Shot. Throw in Scatter Shot and a Ice Trap into the mix and you have a casters worst nightmare.
I love giving casters grief.

Not to bring up old sh*t but, I would just like to add that I found an even better thing against casters...the snake trap. That thing is such a wicked item in the Hunters arsenal now it is not even funny. It spawns 15 snakes that attacks the target and 5 stacks a poison that does 75 damage every 2 sec. Along with the poison it cripples the target 50% movement for a short time (not sure the actual time) and another debuff that increases casting time by 50% as well. Plus all these snakes have an attack speed of 1.0 so really the caster that just got hit by this trap is all but useless for the 15 sec unless he remembers he has an instant AoE spell ready to zap the snakes. Mages are good because they just Arcane Explosion and wipe out all the snakes, but against a PvE caster this thing is deadly. With the poison and everything it does the same amount of damage as the Hunters rank 9 Serpent Sting which is around 560. So it is like doing double damage.

Hunters do rock. But remember, real Hunters use guns, not bows.

Oh god man... now more than ever is the time to play a hunter. The blood elf newbie area has the dragonhawk pet that is totally unlike any other pet. It has a big damage DOT that has a cone area of effect. It makes it so that you can use multishot and the pet still holds aggro on both the monsters.
The cool thing also is that the dragonhawk's special ability upgrades every other level automatically so you dont have to find the animals to train higher ranks.

yeah I didn't have the luxury to get the Dragonhawk when I started out, but I nabbed one of the ones in Outland level 67. It already had rank 3 Fire which was cool, I gave it growl, dive, and bite. The thing is wicked. Now I just need a name for him. he is still Dragonhawk.

Ravagers start with a 7% bonus to armor. I then got the pet talent Natural Armor which at 70 is 1600+ to armor I believe. Your hunters worn armor is then factored into this total and it is all multiplied by the +30% modifier of the Thick Hide talent.

my pet has over 10k armor even without buffs. Add in the Pally aura, as well as gift of the wild, Blessing of Kings, and Arcane Intellect. All those add armor to your pet. Well AI may not, it depends if you went Marksmanship. If you did there is a talent that takes 25% of your total INT and adds that to your AGI.
