Pay it Forward - Just by watching a video!
Friday, January 26th, 2007 - 5:22pm
Hey guys, I know I haven't posted in years, but I still read the site every week.
My family has been going through some tough times with my sister Kristy. She's been fighting leukemia for two years now, and it looks like she's going to pull through, with a little help.
If you can find 5 minutes please watch this video I made for her and pass it around.
Even if you can't donate, just passing the video around will help because it will bump up the view count, and that will get it closer to YouTube's main page.

Thanks again,
Rob
ps - that's me at the end of the video.

That's rough man. Glad to hear things are starting to look up.

Thanks guys. If anything just making the video and TRYING to get her a down payment on a condo has lifted her spirits some.
She's going to be living with my parents when she gets out. Chained to machines and there by chained to my mother. Not something a 26 yr old who used to have her own place and was getting married looks forward to.
That's heart-wrenching, Ridlin. All the best to your family. Let's hope your sister conquers this soon.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
That video made me cry. I hope your sister makes a full and speedy recovery.
Ouch, I have lost myself again

I'll be making a video after she's better to thank everyone.
Over 200 views and $11 donated!! Hey it's a start!
I used to post here everyday, but then it got a little crowded. Elysium might remember my "How to turn your significant other into a gamer" piece he put on the main page for me years back.
Try posting it to digg, maybe they'll bite.

I kid you not, someone just donated $1,000!
I have no idea who it is.
My goal is to get the view count on YouTube high enough that it will get front page attention. Once there, it will get all the hits it needs to make a difference.
I'm calling my local news station tomorrow, and my brother is seriously trying to get it on ophrah.
Ridlin, my friend, you are the big brother that every good person in the world deserves.
Watched the video, and passed it on.
Good luck to you and especially to your sister my friend.
I know it's hard watching any member of your family trying to deal with being stuck in a hospital for extended periods of time.

I've watched it and passed along the link to about 70 people. Hope it helps.
Edit: Also, I think if you change the title of the thread more people here will read it and watch the video...

Having watched my own father spend some time in the hospital this year, this film brought back some pretty painful memories. But he was only there for a week, and your sister, two years - that certainly can't compare. Your sister is a brave, admirable woman - I bet she's really sick of hearing that, and probably doesn't believe it anymore, even though it's true - and you are a very sweet and wonderful big brother. (Good for you for keeping her up to date on the gossip. She's going to need all this when she gets out! The world functions on schadenfreude about celebrities - you don't want her to miss out
) Good luck, and I'll pass the video along.

Very good video Ridlin, and I think everyone easily understands why you haven't posted on the boards in a while. My wife was diagnosed with severe acute Crohn's disease a few years ago and she was in the hospital on and off for a few months, so I can only imagine that your sister's situation is more difficult by a few orders of magnitude. Back then, I wasn't a regular contributor to this site (I don't even think I had an account), but I do remember just browsing the boards and taking some solace in what I was reading. It strange how those types of things can be comforting.
It's amazing that someone donated $1000, that's great news! I'll pitch in a few dollars a bit later: it probably won't be close to $1000, but I really hope it helps.

I don't really have anyone to pass this site to (not viewed well here at work), so I donated a few dollars. It's not much, but hopefully it'll help.

Thank you very much Mr. Evil.
Another few hundred today, and over 450 views, thanks a heck of a lot guys.
Get well Kristy! Thanks for the video Ridlin, there's just so much love. Everyone who sees it will be enriched, and that comes back around.
I hope it does.
Sorry guys I won't bump it again. Just this once.
Best wishes to your sister and the rest of your family, Ridlin.
I hope she's able to go home soon.
Good luck with it Ridlin. Best wishes to Kirsty.
